What does one get in Logos 7 Basic and is it worth going through the hassle? Or is it like an iPhone app where it is free with in-app purchases?
Patrick, we don't know what you have or what you know about Logos Bible Software, so it is harder to answer your question.
If you already own a Logos library there may be little benefit to owning Logos 7 Basic. If you don't, it is a way to get some sense of what Logos can do.
You can check out the contents here. If you are brand new to Logos you should check out some of the videos here.
Logos 7 Basic comes with a very small library. For some people that will be all they ever want. Faithlife certainly must hope that many others will want more, and will consider purchasing a base package, a feature set, or (perhaps) a Cloud subscription. It is quite basic.
I have Logos 6 Platinum Anglican Library. I jumped from Accordance when Logos went Mac, then I upgraded to 6.

You will be upgraded to the Logos 7 engine (which is the Logos 6 engine with a couple of minor tweaks, so you might not notice anything). You may get one or two resources (access-only, not ownership) that you don't have.
I have Logos Now so have had the L7 engine since it was released. There is no reason for me to 'purchase' the free Logos basic.
Thanks
I am not seeing this anywhere, and think it worth mentioning, that if you pick up Verbum Basic, you will likely get access to several quality resources you may not have.
Possibly these:
However, Verbum Basic requires Logos 6: (smiling)
Naturally, 'cuz it's "catholic" [:D]
