BUG: Catholic Study Bible Maps

I was excited yesterday to order the Catholic Study Bible, 2nd Edition. It's a recourse I have used in hardcopy for a few years and for which I had the original version for many years before that.

It has many useful articles, diagrams and other information. The original and 2nd edition paper version have wonderful full color maps with relief shading that are really nice.

It is here that I am very disappointed in the Logos edition. The maps are black and white (flat) and contain an errant symbol on many of the individual maps.

Honestly, they don't measure up to the printed version...blah! Can we fix this, please?

What is the name of this map in particular? It should be listed in the list of maps towards the beginning of the book

Hope this doesnt make for more confusion. I believe Steve is referring to the last Table of Contents entry, New Oxford Bible Maps. These are color maps in the back of my paperback edition and are shaded relief maps. They are labeled Maps 1 through 14 and do not have entries in either the List of Sidebars nor the List of Maps that follow the table of contents

When I click on the Table of Contents New Oxford Bible Maps I dont get the map shown by Steve, but two other black and white maps, illustrations next to the text of the Old Testament, not the color maps found in the paperback edition that I would expect

One of the (unexpected) maps on my display show the spurious characters; I would guess them to be font errors. A shutdown and restart changes what is displayed. The new display seems to be a sequencial repeat of the text maps referenceced in the List of Maps. Note that I just ordered some books and my library is in the process of being reindexed. Sometimes weird things happen when indexing is going on.

Steve, I duplicated displaying a map with your x'd-box symbol. When I closed and restarted my app (Verbum, not Logos, by the way) I get only the black and white maps from the text, not the color maps that are in the paperback edition at the table of Contents entry, "New Oxford Bible maps."

This is interesting. I wouldn't imagine those characters would disappear after a restart since they are part of the text. I restarted Logos and nothing changed about them.

It's possible the source material we received was black and white. There might be other reasons these maps may have been intentionally added in black and white as well. Either way I'll report both and link to this thread.

EDIT: After some additional research I realized that there are a number of black and white maps that are printed within chapters of biblical books. These are maps are copyrighted by the holders of the Catholic Study Bible, not the NABRE. The nature of the Logos edition is such that all maps are located in the back under the New Oxford Bible Maps table of contents entry.

With that in mind, the maps seem to be correctly rendered black and white (however, see below) but many still have the errant character even after a restart. My original example is one of those that appears on page 1554 of my hardcopy edition (Second Missionary Journey of Paul).

Another point: As far as I can tell, none of the 14 full color maps with relief shading are present in the Logos edition. It looks like we may not have those, in which case it would help to determine if was an accidental omission from Oxford or they are not part of the license, in which case there should be a note on the product page indicating such.

The source material we have has the flat, black and white maps. This means nothing will change regarding the color of the maps. The rectangles with Xs are a result of a conversion problem. We're working on fixing that.
