Lectionary is irritating...

Being non-liturgical, I find it irksome to have a Catholic lectionary right their above John MacArthur's mug on my homepage. And I cannot find any way to at least select a protestant lectionary. I'd like to get rid of it from my home page altogether. Any help?

well, that was unhelpful. The only thing I can suggest is to create three reading plans, and then in the customize section move the lectionary to the bottom.

Martin,

The "Catholic Lectionary" appears there because it is the first Lectionary in alphabetical order. If you would like any other one to appear, you need to prioritize another lectionary. Open your library, search for "lectionary", chose one of the other ones, right-click and "prioritize this resource."

You can also rearrange the items on your ribbon and push the Lectionary to the end through the customize menu on the bottom left of the home page

Joe Miller (I think) thought that it was a gift of God's grace that John MacArthur's smiling face kept reappearing on my homepage during the Beta testing no matter how many times I turned off those options. I "gracefully" declined to respond

I'll admit that all I know about John MacArthur is that I've seen him mentioned here and seen his name related to Bible study on the web. I've gone back and forth on leaving the blog on the home page ... but I really don't mind if his face shows up. If his face provides revenue to support the Logos product, you can fill the home page with his image. All complaints will be tongue in cheek (unless I have foot in mouth).

My problem is that I don't want any lectionary to appear. I don't want to demote it. I want it drummed right out of the corp. It's still there smugly smirkiing at me. Demoting it simply moves it from the left to the right.

Both - it is the lectionary of the Roman rite of the Catholic Church - the most common but not the only Western rite. There are also a slew of Eastern rite Catholic Churches with their own lectionaries. I haven't bothered to check which flavor of the Roman rite's lectionary is used.

And, come on, 80% of Christians world-wide have to put up with Logos emphasizing the NAP canon (North American Protestant) and a somewhat higher percentage use lectionaries ... so I won't whine if you don't whine.

Note: I do recognize why Logos is NAP oriented - that is (and will remain) their largest customer base.

Hi Brad,

A number of the beta testers didn't like the ribbon & requested the ability to turn it off. Sounds like you're just requesting that a different area of it come up rather than the lectionary reading... Several of us (me included) didn't even want L4 to come up on the home page at all--easy to do, which automatically fixes the issue of seeing the lectionary on the home page.

On the home page, pick "Customize" (bottom LH corner) & uncheck "Show Homepage at Startup". From then on, it'll bring up L4 in exactly the same state that it was in when you closed it down. For me, that enables me to resume wherever I left off... I like that MUCH better, though I've come to appreciate the remainder of the home page... it's introducing me to the Logos blog & remote corners of my library, neither of which was I in the habit of reading.

Hi Martin,

I just saw a tested solution in another thread... hide every lectionary in your library. The lectionary then disappears off the ribbon.

Is there a way to hide "Choose preferred Bible"? Once I have chosen my preferred Bible, I no longer need to see this on my ribbon.

Read a post or two about the lectionaries on the ribbon and not
being able to turn them off. I figured (at least one way) how to
completely remove the Lectionary from the Homepage Ribbon.

go to tools/ program settings

then open your library in a floating window so you can move it for ease

type lectionary in your library and get the book list

**note that Zodhiates Sermon Starters shows up there for some reason**

in program settings, on the bottom of the page, you will see "hidden resources". Click the drop down to open it.

Drag and drop every lectionary from your library there

**note this is to completely remove the
lectionary pane from the ribbon, if you want a lectionary make sure to
leave at least one. Make sure not to remove Zodhiates either, it
doesn't show up in the lectionary ribbon.**

Restart Logos and you will now see that there is no longer a any lectionary and or just the one you wanted.

Oh Floyd. How much we longed for this in Beta testing. But, alas, it was not to be.

Bob believes that this needs to be prominently displayed so that it can always be "re-found"

Thanks so much for this tip! I was getting very frustrated with the Lectionary taking up space on my home page with no way to remove it. Sure wish there was an option to simply disable the feature without having the hide the resource.

As a good evangelical - I am rather surprised at how ungracious and narrow minded some folk can be. If you don't have the stamina, discipline or imagination to use a lectionary then simply ignore it, hide or delete it - but don't be rude about it (or dismiss those who use it.)

Perhaps if Logos could simply give people the option to tick or un-tick the lectionary from appearing in the ribbon then all could be content.

Since lectionaries in the form of the weekly Torah cycle date back at least as far as the exile, perhaps we need to create the Torah cycle as the default - I'm not sure how close we could get to the corresponding Nevi'im at the time of Jesus' ministry but we could come close. It should be difficult to object to what Jesus and his disciples knew in synagogue services [:)] - and it still leaves the ignore, hide, delete options.

More seriously, I think that the reaction reflected in several posts in thread show the need for basic education about lectionaries. It is unsurprising to have these responses if one thinks that lectionaries are Catholic or left-over Catholic artifacts. It is surprising if one knows that lectionaries were well established in Judaism before Jesus Christ.

Are you looking at the prioritize list on the right? Simply click on the Catholic Lectionary then on remove from list. If no lectionary is in the priority list on the right - add RCL (or any one other than Catholic) to the priority list.

Or, if you have no interest in lectionaries - make all lectionaries hidden.

I tried that first thing. I clicked prioritize, and there was not any lectionaries in that list on the right. I added RCL and the Methodist lectionary to that list. That moved them up in the rankings to 2 and 3. Catholic is still ranked 1 and still appears on the homepage. I also hid the Catholic lectionary. It still appeared on the homepage and still is ranked 1. It is not in the list on the right and never was, so I did not and could not remove it. And I do want a lectionary on the homepage, just not the Catholic one.

Why cant Logos just make the Ribbon Bar where we can put our favorite stuff up there. I would like to put a devotional up there instead of a lectionary. I understand having the Bible and a reading plan but I just dont get the recent reading list and lectionary being there. I removed the lectionaries from my library but really wish the ribbon bar was more useful. Hope Logos is listening to these forums.

Boy, you have me puzzled. I have the Catholic lectionary, RCL lectionary and Lutheran 3-year prioritized in that sequence (in the right priority list). When I click on the Catholic lectionary and say remove from list, close L4 and restart, the RCL shows. I'm out of ideas -unless you can post a picture of the priority list, I think this may be a customer service problem.

That would be a really neat & useful option! If Logos could give us another tick option in the homepage customisation list that would allow those of us who use lectionaries to take full advantage without upsetting our friends who don't! Great idea!!

You can now turn off the Lectionary in the ribbon by going to the customize button in the lower left of the homepage and unchecking Lectionary.
