iPhone Plus for Reading?
I currently use a very old iPad mini for almost all my reading. It's days are numbered and is increasingly glitchie and glitchier. I'm considering a new tablet, but looking at the newer larger iPhone Pluses, I may just use them for my reading needs. Has anyone had experience reading on these? How do you like it? Or does anyone use it as their primary reader?

I can't answer... I believe in the "right tool for the right job." I would not use an iPhone as a primary reading device... but neither would I use an iPad mini. My reading devices:
- iPad Pro ("normal iPad sized") - I use this for reading Logos resources which I want to highlight (and occasionally take notes).
- Kindle Paperwhite - my preferred device for "just reading." I do not take any notes or highlighting.
My current phone is an iPhone 6s. I should let you know that I am debating moving to the iPhone 7s Plus this fall. I do have the Logos app installed on my 6s, and do use it several times weekly... but it isn't my primary reading device.

Alabama24, do you just send the Logos books to your kindle via export/word? That is what I have been starting to do because I don't like to read on my iPad screen before I go to bed. It is a little tedious but is the only option I can think of to read my resources on my Kindle. You mention that you occasionally take notes on your iPad. Where do you take the majority of your notes?

Logos used to have a "send to kindle" feature, but Amazon put the kibosh on it. Most of the books I own in Logos, however, are ones which I would want to highlight... so all of that reading is done on my iPad.
You mention that you occasionally take notes on your iPad. Where do you take the majority of your notes?
As per my response above: The right tool for the right job. I would never take large amounts of notes on my iPad... I couldn't create the notes quickly enough, or organize them the way I want, etc. If I were writing a sermon or term paper, the vast majority of that kind of work would be on my MacBook Pro.

I use the iPad Pro for longer reading sessions (e.g., on planes). And I use my iPhone 6 Plus for shorter readings.
In the past, I used the various FL Mobile Apps on both devices. This worked great for a while. However, due to various bugs with the Mobile Apps (reported in the old Forum), I switched to Kindle. This means that books that I just want for reading, I purchase from Amazon. I use Kindle on both, iPhone Plus and iPad Pro, and like the reliability and simplicity of the Kindle app very much. Books for serious study, I purchase from Logos and use on the Desktop.
FL told me that some of my issues with their Mobile Apps might have been fixed. I am now debating if I should give the Mobile Apps another try or if I stick with Kindle.

I personally find that I can't adjust to reading on such a small screen (even as big as the iPhone 7 Plus is), so I never read productively on the iPhone. I read on the iPad all the time. Given the options, I'd snag one of the new iPads (I'd get the 128 GB model) for $409 (or you can get a 32GB model for $309). Not a bad price for having 128GB of space and almost as much power as the iPad Pro.

I think it is more a personal preference. I have a 7+ and find reading on it is just fine. Although, I used to read on an old Palm Pilot IIIx back in the early days and people thought that was crazy; who would read something on such a small screen.
I usually use the 7+ for simple reading. I use the iPad for some more serious study as I can split the screen in Logos.
It is helpful to remember someone somewhere decided on the optimum size for a paper back or hard back book. I assume those who were accustomed to large books or handwritten books back in the day questioned how anyone could read text printed by a printing press on such a small page.

I'm thinking the Plus, just for the added size. I own a 5s, but I'm also thinking about a new phone, which, if the Plus works for reading, would kill 2 birds with one stone. The small text isn't a problem for me as much as just being able to see a decent amount of the paragraph I'm in. If I read on my current phone, I just can't see enough of the context around the reading I'm in (sentence I'm in). I like being able to see at least most of the paragraph, so I can guage where I am in the authors line of thought. I wasn't sure if the plus gave that much space or not.

I had hoped I could use a Plus to converge the number of devices I own, but I decided that while the Plus would have made a good device for reading, it was was too large for my smaller hands and pockets.

Most of my reading is on the iPad but I do read on my iPhone 6 and find it is a decent size for reading... The best thing about that is it is not too giant to fit in ones pock or comfortably in most hands.

If you can afford to wait, one of the rumors about the "iPhone 8" (later this fall) will be a larger screen size, with smaller/no bezels. It might provide more (or the same) reading space as the Plus, but be easier to hold or fit in your pocket.

Liam FWIW, I've been using a Samsung Galaxy Note for years as my primary reading device other than a 17" laptop (i.e. I've never had a tablet). It's a similar size screen.
I've read *heaps* of books right through on the 5.8" screen. Unlike a tablet, it's always with me, so it's right there when I end up in a queue or unexpectedly waiting for someone. I regularly mark up the text.
I still use the laptop for heavy duty work, because the Logos software is so much more powerful than the mobile apps (e.g. in searching). But the large screen iPhone Plus should do the job as a reader.

Remember that when reading on a large screen phone, you are also likely going to hold it very close to your eyes so it will in effect seem bigger than it would at arms length like a laptop or even further away like a desktop monitor.
