Lost nearly all my PBs - have you?

I was wondering why few of my Personal Books had hits and I have discovered that most of them (around 100) have no longer the file attached to them...

Is this because I deleted the original file after they were built? (a few months ago I went through my download folder and cleared it) Do these files need to retained in a separate folder for them to be used?

Or did something happen when the Logos programme was upgraded?

Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes. You are seeing this because the original source file is not where Logos expected to find it. The source file must be retained in the directory it was created from. Your Personal Book should still be in your library, and the absence of the source file should not prevent you from opening it Logos.

Personally Stephen I make a practise of saving the results of my hard work safe. I may move the folder where they are kept and then I only have to re-link to the file in its new home. It will not make any difference to accessing the completed work but having only owned a computer for the last 30 years plus, I still don't trust these new fangled gadgets enough not to keep my source material safe!!

For clarification: Is your issue simply that the file isn't available to recompile in the personal book builder (pbb) tool, or are the compiled books themselves unavailable in your Library? If the later, was this the computer they were compiled on?

As the others have mentioned, you do need the .docx file to recompile a book... but you do not need it to view an already compiled book. In theory, if a book is "perfect," you can delete the .docx file. Theory, however, isn't always what happens in practice. For that reason I keep all my .docx files handy. [:)]

Thanks for the above replies. Much appreciated and a new Logos PB folder now created. Now I just a few days holiday to sort it all out!

It is important to be precise with terminology in cases like this. The compiled personal books aren't attached to the source (.docx) files. The source files are linked to (but not stored) in the personal book builder (pbb) tool. The deletion of the source documents should have no bearing on the compiled files from within the library. You should still have access to all of your personal books from within your library. If the later is not true for you, another cause should be explored for their absence... unless a change in policy/behavior has occurred without my knowledge.

I am confused by this statement. Do you mean that you were doing a search (i.e. for a word) and the search results produced hits for your personal books? That is expected behavior, so that can't be what you mean... but for the life of me I can't decipher what you mean by "hits."

...and are the .docx files in the same folder/path structure on your computer? If they aren't in the same place, that is the expected result. If they are in the same place, please create a new thread, explain your issue clearly, providing relevant details.

Maybe the PB index is broken - try the command "rebuild personal book index" (this won't require the PBs to be rebuild or the source docx-files to be present)
