[BUG] Rebuild Index does nothing

Armin
Armin Member Posts: 1,504 ✭✭✭

I purchased and downloaded some additional resources but the indexing did not start. When I manually used the comment "Rebuild Index", still nothing happened. Here is the log:

0045.LogosLogs.eberlein.20170411-135230.zip

Do I have to delete the folder with the index to convince Logos to start reindexing?

PS: Rebooting my Mac did not help either.

The Indexer is not starting for some reason. Someone more knowledgeable should come along and help you

Note: moving to Desktop Beta forum as this is a beta version

How bad / dangerous would it be for me to delete the index folder?

  • Armin
    Armin Member Posts: 1,504 ✭✭✭

I tried it out: I deleted the Index folder and restarted Logos. Although the folder gets re-created, the indexer does not start, even with the "Rebuild index" command. Also reinstalling Logos on my Mac did not help.  [:(]

Thanks for the report. This is a bug on Mac with starting up the indexer. It should be fixed in next week's beta release.

Thanks, Andrew, for your reply. I tried to go back to the last stable version but it won't let me due to incompatibility. Is there a way for me to install an earlier beta version? Right now, no search shows any results.

    Armin,

There is not an easy way to get back to an earlier build. I'll reach out to you directly via email about this issue.

    Armin,

I just wanted to make sure everything worked ok? You'll want to remember to reset your update channel to get the next beta release.

    Hi Philana,

I really appreciate your watchful eye on the forum and the problems being reported. You make a real difference to the way your customers' problems are being addressed.

Yes, I am up and running again. Amazing how your team created an entire build just for me to get back on track. Superb service.

This morning, after downloading a course I bought, the indexer does not start.

    This is my indexer.log (whole):

I am on the latest beta for Mac.

Just a thought: I think a certain Jenkins is causing this :-)

Yes, you have the same problem; which will be fixed (by Jenkins[:)]) in the next beta.

I just discovered that I have this bug also. However, all my searching seemed to be going fine the last couple of days. Then, today, I get no results in my searches. Friday is a bad day to figure this out. Oh, well. My index files are only a couple of MB's. I did get some new resources yesterday and today.

I hope that beta comes out soon.

This is the installer link I sent to Armin earlier this week. It has fixed his installer issue and should correct the issue for other users as well.

NOTE: Because this build went through limited testing I recommend that you wait for the official beta (expected early next week). However, if you've lost your search capabilities and really need them before next week you can install this build.

Update: I have this on two machines, both running the beta. Though I think I installed the beta on Monday and I was doing searches and WS, etc all week. Everything was fine until this morning. I did have some pre-pubs download overnight and bought something this morning. That is when I noticed the indexer was not working. It seems like it deleted the old index. Bible index too.

This issue with the indexer should now be fixed with 7.6 Beta 4 (7.6.0.0020).

I installed this beta version to try and fix the indexing issue I was having with the main build (the rebuild index command wasn't working either). Unfortunately it hasn't solved the issue; the index is still stalling at about 57%.

I'd like the full indexer log file. Compress/zip it and upload using the paperclip icon. How much free disk space have you got?

    Hey Jonathan,

I realize my last comment was a bit confusing. I was trying to find out if you had already updated to 7.6 RC-1 and if the problem had still persisted. If you have not reindexed, please wait until we learn more so your system doesn't get slowed down by reindexing your entire library.

    Hi Jonathan,

After doing some investigating this is likely an issue of some bad resource downloads. You’ll need to delete the resources and launch the app while working offline. While offline your library should start indexing. When you work online again, you should be able to download the resources again. Here are the steps you’ll want to take.

    1. Close the app

    2. Open File Explorer and type %localappdata%

    3. Navigate to Logos > Data > folder with a random name > Resource Manager > Resources

    4. Delete the following files: LLS:ZIBBCNT02, LLS:ZIBBCNT03, LLS:1.0.15, LLS:ZIBBCNT04

    5. Launch the app holding the CTRL key down and choose Work Offline

    6. It should start indexing again.

    7. If that works and indexing completes you can launch the app again working online and the resources should download again (you might need to use the command “update resources”).

Please let us know if this fixes things.

    Blessings,

    Philana

    Jonathan,

Someone from CS will reach out and connect with you. They have a way to look for corrupted resources. Normally they don't do this with Beta installs. If this happens again its best to contact CS rather than switching to the beta channel.
