When trying copying a map by sending into Powerpoint it creates a blank slide in Powerpoint without the map. Any suggestions. I've also tried just copying the map --still no map.
Can you send more specifics of what OS, what version of Powerpoint, and a specific example of what you tried then we can try it too? I am running 4.0b Beta 8, but I just tried a Send To and a copy of a map of Jerusalem to Powerpoint 2007 and it works fine. I see nothing in the release notes of any of the 4.0b betas about Powerpoint or Send To bugs/improvements...

I am using Logos 4.0a SR-3 and PowerPoint 2007 and have had no problems exporting to PowerPoint.
Can you tell us whether it is just this one map or all images you try to send to PowerPoint?
In PowerPoint 2003,
if the map is not zoomed, i get a vertical bar
but if zoomed in some, i get the map
Map: Biblical places, Judgeship of Samson
Edit: see more post below, this turned out not to be the correct assumption
Works fine for me, whether zoomed or not. Comes out the same size in PowerPoint regardless of zoom level in Logos. I'm using PowerPoint 2007, and Logos 4.0b Beta 8.
The consistency here seems to be those with PowerPoint 2007 see no problem, those with PowerPoint 2003 do see a problem (at least some of the time). Can anyone else with PowerPoint 2003 confirm this and help Logos narrow it down?
Works fine for me, whether zoomed or not.
With a little more examination, i found
The zooming makes no difference.
The difference is when PowerPoint is not already opened. Then regardless of the zoom level, i get the vertical bar. And what is more interesting, is when i copy the image from PowerPoint to a graphic editor the vertical bar (1st image below) shows as a miniature floppy disk (2nd image).
This is repeatable. But if PowerPoint is open then L4 pastes the image correctly (at whatever zoom level).
Edit: i am running 4.0aSr3 and PowerPoint 2003
Edit Again: when i stretch the image in PowerPoint is shows as below
Interesting, Steve. I wonder if that vertical bar is just a scrunched large floppy disk icon? What happens if you grab the resizing bars on the image in PowerPoint and try to resize the width to make it wider? And what graphic editor are you pasting the image into? Perhaps your graphic editor shows a floppy disk icon when it can't access the original image for some reason. Have you tried copying a normal map image that successfully exported into PowerPoint and pasting it into your graphic editor? What shows up then?

See edited previous post
And what graphic editor are you pasting the image into?
Paint.Net

Yes, the map comes over great
This definitely seems like a bug. It works with PowerPoint 2003 already opened, but fails if it has to open PowerPoint 2003. Perhaps someone at Logos can try to verify if this is indeed a bug.
BTW: this specific map gives me no trouble in PowerPoint 2007.
Not sure if you answered one question I had which is whether this is a problem with everything you try to send to PowerPoint or just this one map?
FWIW, pasting the bar from PowerPoint in Adobe Photoshop Elements yields the same disk image.
Trying to send a chart image from Bible Knowledge Commentary produces the same disk image (bar as seen in PowerPoint, when PowerPoint was not open).
Mark,
can you think of something else that i should try to send to PowerPoint?
Try graphics from Biblical People and Biblical Things, images from The Bible and Its Story, etc. Seems like a universal problem with sending images from Logos to PowerPoint 2003 if it isn't running yet.
Try graphics from Biblical People
Causes bar/disk when PowerPoint is not open. Works correctly when PowerPoint is open.
[quote]Biblical Things
[quote]images from The Bible and Its Story
[quote]etc
Tried several other images/maps from other resources with the same results.
I think this is what would be expected. The evidence is that whatever Logos is trying to do to open PowerPoint 2003 isn't working. You might create a separate Forum entry entitled 'Bug - Sending images to PowerPoint 2003' and link your first entry to your posting here. That would help get this issue elevated above the routine question level.

Keith,
Any update on your problem?
Like Dominick asked: What is your PowerPoint version? What is your Operating System? What map are you trying to copy?
I spent 40 minutes on the phone with Logos yesterday and they were not able to resolve the problem. I can copy it to Word and then copy it into PowerPoint - its a work-around. I have Office 2003 - I've tired several of the suggestions on the blog -- but the only solution has been my work-around.
So you have PowerPoint open, then select Send to PowerPoint ?
Yes - even when I do that --it creates a blank slide.
This is a guess, but i saw a post where having Logos4 set to open as Administrator applied to the Logos4 icon caused a problem.
If you right click on the Logos4 icon on your desktop,
Then click on Properties as shown below
Then when the properties pane appears, select the Compatibility tab at the top.
Then make sure that the Run this program as Administrator is Not checked. My guess is this if it is checked, then when you started Logos4, it may be blocking the pasting. If it is already unchecked, them my guess is wrong. If it was checked, try unchecking it, then press the OK, you will need to close Logos4 and then wait a few seconds then try opening it again and try to Send the map to an Already Open PowerPoint.
It might be a bug in PowerPoint. So another "solution" would be to upgrade to PowerPoint 2007, which doesn't seem to have this problem. I've seen prices as low as $78 for the upgrade to PP '07, though I'm sure you were looking for a solution a little less expensive than that... [:)]

And it has the pretty little ribbon thingy. Or was that also in 2003?
The ribbon was introduced with Office 2007
Sorry for the delay in responding to your post. I've just tested sending a map and an image successfully to PowerPoint 2003, when it was closed, from the 4.0b Beta without it creating a blank slide. I'm not sure whether or not 4.0b is the difference. Do you have at least SP2 for Office 2003 installed? When you click on Help > About Microsoft Office PowerPoint, it should have the build number and 'SP2' or 'SP3' after the version.
Thanks,Melissa
