How to add my existing annotations, notes, highlights from BHS/WHM 4.2 to BHS/WHM 4.18?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.

So I've been away from Logos for several years; when selecting which version of Hebrew I wanted I chose BHS/WHM 4.2 thinking it was newer (like software versions) than 4.18.

Now that I've completely annotated a couple of books I realized I'm wrong and 4.18 is newer.

So I opened up 4.18 and my annotations / notes are not there. How do I apply my bible journaling from version 4.2 of BHS/WHM hebrew bible to the newer version (4.18) ?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.

So I opened up 4.18 and my annotations / notes are not there.

Notes can either be created "by selection" (against a particular block of text) or "by reference" (against a particular reference - and available in all versified resources). Highlights are always created by selection. And the fact you can't see your annotations / notes in BHS 4.18 shows that they have all been created by reference.

There is no automated way to do this but it is possible to do manually.

You need to open the Notes Document containing the notes / highlights (right-click on one of them, ensure that the text is selected on the right-hand menu, scroll down the left-side menu until you find "Open Annotation" and click it)

Then you will get something like this:

(Ignore the highlighted text in verses 34&35 of the NIV, that's something else I am working on)

Then - assuming you want to attach the annotation against "Jesus said" in verse 31 to the NRSV you need to select the relevant text in NRSV (click and drag your mouse over it), then hover over the top-right of the note in the notes document and select "Edit attachment point"

which will give you this

Click "attach to current selection" - and the highlight appears in the NRSV

Click "Done" and then repeat with other annotations.

I've shown it here with NIV and NRSV - the same will work with other resources such as BHS texts

Thank you Graham. It's quite tedious, but it is a workaround.

I understand why it would be necessary for texts with different words like NIV vs NRSV or something of the sort but the words in BHS to BHS should be identical or almost so.

Are you sure there is no brute force way to Select all BHS note attachment points and replace them with the newer version BHS note attachments points?

I mean this is really more like if you had an older version of NRSV with notes, and then you got a newer version of NRSV and just wanted to apply your notes to it.

I have many notes, hence my efforts to avoid opening, highlighting, etc. each of them individually. Just seems silly to open 2 identical texts (at least what's rendered), and go through note by note.

If I had direct access to the database I bet I could type a one line statement to update all references. If this was a flatfile I could just CTRL-H (windows replace) BHS/WHM 4.2 with BHS/WHM 4.18

silly me I got into this trouble because I thought the 4.18 was an OLDER version of the Morphology tagging than 4.2 since it's software etc...

If there is I'm not aware of it - sorry.

I understand totally but I don't believe there is any way to do this using the Logos program. As you suggest it may be possible to do this at the database level but I wouldn't know where to start, it wouldn't be supported and synchronisation could potentially end up doing strange things to it as well!

Yes, I was worried about synchronization issues too.

Well I've been going through as you suggested (thanks for that). Probably have another couple of hours to go then at least it's done.

On the positive side, it makes me review those notes already!

OK here is a solution for anyone with the same problem who came across this thread.

I recently upgraded to Logos NOW and that may have added some options that weren't there before or maybe a recent update did this or just nobody realized this before.

As of Logos 7.x latest update in end of May, 2017 with the full feature set this is doable (maybe with other versions too I had starter previously just using my Scholar's Gold license from over a decade ago).

So if you have marked one Hebrew bible version in your journaling notes and you want those markups to show up in another version, you can just open the version you want to apply the notes/highlights/etc. to, click on the triangle composed of 3 circles "visual filters", check the box "corresponding notes and Highlights", then check box all the files you want applied.

Beautiful! Now my BHS 4.2 notes apply to my BHW 4.18 and Lexham Hebrew bible etc, no problem.

I'm glad I decided to abandon my tedious note copying after a couple of hours. I had decided maybe the L-rd just wanted me to go through without those notes again; maybe I had bad ideas, etc.... Now I have my bad ideas back baby!!!
