Since The New International Commentary on the Old and New Testament (NICOT/NICNT 40 Vols.) comprises such a significant investment I don't feel too out of place begging for a bit of information along the lines of "how close are we?"
Can you give a rough, even if completely from the hip estimate as to % done or how much longer before you ask me to cough up the cash?
Thanks,
Tom
That's a fair question to ask of Logos employees who may read this and be in a position to help out with a little information.[:)]
Yes, it would be great to hear some news about the current development of that much anticipated series. But I doubt we will hear anything before it becomes ready to distribute. Will it be next week Logos? [:)]
Will it be next week Logos?
I too would like an answer to this question; or at least some feedback. From my perspective I can see no good reasons why Logos would fail to respond to prospective customers that have their tongues hanging out to send them $1000!
I think they are hesitant to respond to things like this because even though they say (super rough estimate) people (like me) get it in their mind that that is the date they are counting down to. Then when that date comes and goes we start complaining...or if it comes too fast we start complaining that we didn't have the savings yet. I'm not saying we shouldn't hear, but just saying why we probably don't get shipping estimates until the very end.
Jacob,
I think you're on to some truth there. But as you can see it's not going to stop me from asking. I have to have the money available when they ship or I drop the prepub price no matter how painful.
I'm working towards it but I need to plan for it with all the data I can get.
Makes sense. But why can't Logos give some sort of window of time? I mean, could they say "It is tentatively scheduled to ship in 2010!!?" Or, all kidding aside, why not say something like "Spring of 2010?" That isn't much information but I would rather hear that than stoney silence! I am sure for Logos they walk the fine line on things like this...
it is a bit of an issue for me. I have a few thousand in pre-pub's pending, and my expense allotment is running out. i would put some of them off my prepub list if it meant getting knocked out of contention for NICOT/NT I can not afford a series at regular pricing, and no guarantee individual commentaries would go on sale (which is how I buy hardbound: if I am doing a series on a book, i would be a handful or a dozen of "the best".). I can go months without paying much and then WHAM 2,300 comes due in a week. Can't sustain that often, especially in this economy, and our own church in dire straits.
We are currently on target to ship the NIC on 10/15/2009.
Now, that is the information [Y] I am glad God blessed me with the designated money to that series. It is great to have a treasurer who understands and is a man of faith... [:)]
Thank you Logos (Kent). This was very helpful to me.
Rich
I will pencil it in for November sometime. Me, of little faith. But I am totally surprised it is so soon.

Daniel, When it comes to hardbound commentaries NICOT/NT is the only series I ever bought one at a time. It was probably due to the cost. This raises a new idea: With downloads so easy to do, why can't there be an "NIC-of-the-month" download? If someone committed to getting the whole set they coud have the discounted price credited on the back end of order fulfilment. (i.e. Charge the single volume higher price each time one ships until the last few volumes of the complete set. have been ordered.) There is probably a licensing issue and marketing reasons why this can't be done. But I'm a simple guy and it seems simple enough to me.
Another possibility is a few lump sum payments over a few months. Logos has already done all the work. Now if they can increase the purchasing base the return will be so much greater. (Stamping out a CD is pretty cheap nowadays.)
YES!! Thank you Logos!! That didn't hurt too much, now did it?! Very helpful indeed.
thanks for the heads up! But, GULP, i may not be able to swing that by then . . .
The irony of the situation.
It reminds me of the old saying: "Be careful what you ask for. You may get it."
We all wanted then NICOT/NICNT available for our Logos libraries. We wanted it soon. We never imagined that it would happen this quickly.
I imagine that many Logos users will be doing some major rearranging of finances and priorities over the next 30 days. I just hope that none of my other prepubs popup soon.
Nice saying. I like it [:)] But, hey, guys, do we want it or not. If we are too pessimistic about it, Logos might change their mind, and I really, really want that series. [:)]
I don;t believe in jinxes but I do believe in irony. My Pre-Pub order page has come alive with little titles dogging at my heels! It is bad enough to take the Spurgeon hit and the NICOT/NT hit just 30 days apart. The little guys are almost too much.
The interest free period on the credit card should take me over long enough to sell those things I've been waiting to put on ebay! It is definitely worth the saving of getting it on pre-pub!
I'm looking forward to this set!!!
Well, somehow I assumed the date is today, so I did all necessary things with the card etc., waiting the announcement. Only then I realized it is supposed to be October 15. Too bad. I really planned to study it tonight :-(
Somebody somewhere wrote about the patience... OK, I am learning. Have a good day, guys.
wow, Charles Spurgeon Collection (86 Vols.) can take up 2 Hours, 17 Minutes, 13 Seconds on DSL
I wonder how long NICOT/NICNT will take to download.....
Well, it is October 15, the day NICOT/NICNT should be released. Actually I see the date changed to 16th, so another day, OK, I am learning to be patient... OK, but please no other change, just bring it on... [:)]
I was just about to check to see if could download it. So that ticks one thing off of the list tonight!

Since we are ahead time wise, does that mean we get it first before our American friends?[:)]
Ted.

Yes, I agree. The US dollar exchange rate is just perfect for getting it right now, so... bring it on, I am ready... [H]
Sadly I just deleted my prepub order. Unfortunately it is just to much at one time. I was hoping for a payment plan to be offered so I waited until the last minute. Maybe I will be able to purchase it in the future.

I am sorry for you Ron. May be you can get some good price in the future also and you can use the payment plan after it is not a prepub.
1 Australian dollar = 0.9199 U.S. dollars
1 Euro = 1,489 USD [:)]
It's here, it's here. Praise the Lord. I got it today in the morning. Downloaded in a few minutes. Great. I remember when we just asked and dreamed to see it in Logos. Thank you Logos for that great tool. My bank account also feels much better being lighter of 1000 USD [:)]
