This is a weird beta 8 issue...

I have a button on my toolbar for "Rebuild index". I have used it in the past. Under beta 8, when I click it, the little blue logos icon flashes very quickly and then exits. I just tried typing Rebuild Index into the command bar, waiting until the drop down shows it, and then I click that, and the reindex has now started and is working properly!

I have one machine reindexing, and one machine building an index from scratch. I'll do more investigation after they are finished.

I did a rebuild index by typing it in on one machine, and I deleted all the index files and let it do an index on the other. On both machines the rebuild index button that I dragged to the toolbar back in version 4.0 just flashes the icon in the system tray for less than a second then ends. I have attached the log file of the indexer, if you need something else let me know as it happens every time.

Which system produced the log?

If it was the first (using the command) is there a supplemental index in \LibraryIndex (C:\Users\Dominick\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\rmqnd1wd.3gm\LibraryIndex)?

What happened in the other machine? Is there a log?

I tried a delete and recreate of the index on the system I just posted the index file to a minute or two ago, and no, it still does not work. Icon pops up real fast then goes away.

I'm not able to reproduce this, but have reported it to development.

From the log files it looks like the link is being interpreted as a request to Merge Indexes rather than Rebuild Indexes. If you re-create the link does it do the right thing?

I may have done both that time, I can't remember. It still happens every time, and if I create a new button it does not - and if I invoke Rebuild from the Command box it works fine.

Just now, when I read your reply, I closed Logos 4, reopened, clicked the button to Rebuild Index after being sure to confirm it was the proper button via the yellow notification bubble, and it did the same thing - flashed quickly and went away in the sys tray. When I exited the app, it crashed! So Here is the index log and the logos log...

Melissa, problem still occurs with Beta 9 - cannot get Rebuild Index or Merge Index to work from the toolbar. Do you want another log file?

It's still being interpreted (by L4) as a merge request. Since there is nothing to merge the Indexer shuts down quickly.

It's still being interpreted (by L4) as a merge request. Since there is nothing to merge the Indexer shuts down quickly.

Perhaps the next experiment should be to drag a Merge Index command to the tool bar. If it triggers a full indexing then that might help isolate a bug in the indexer related to receiving commands from the tool bar.

I have a Merge Index button too, and that works fine, so it's not switching them. After the recent round of updates, I used it on both machines and it works fine. For the rebuild index button, I tried deleting the button, readding it and clicking it (no good). I also tried adding a second Rebuild Index button and that also does not work. I am open to trying other things if anyone has an idea.

Yes. L4 sees the command as BuildIndex but proceeds to force a Merge!

I just tried deleting the Rebuild index button, exiting, opening it up again, deleting the merge index button, dragging a new rebuild index button, and it still does the same. I checked the log, and I see how it says "Merge index requested". So this is some sort of bug. Odd it happens on both my computers and doesn't appear to happen to anyone else...

There must be a data file somewhere in here I can delete and have it regenerated and make this go away [8-|]

LOL I just got a new resource, it reindexed fine, so to prove the point once it was done I hit the "Rebuild Index" button on my tool bar. IT DID A MERGE INDEX.
