Highlighting Tip: Create Blended Colours

I have just realised that text can be highlighted with more than one colour, with the resultant blend creating a new, third colour not directly offered by Logos' options. Therefore, Green plus Yellow makes lime green, and so on.

Perhaps this is something that everyone apart from me was already aware of but, if not, I hope that some people find this wee tip helpful.

I've been living with multiple notes, just to have blended "highlighter" colors (even though the blended colors aren't easily searchable).

I hope the new notes implementation will give us more flexibility.

Whatever the new notes/highlights implementation may be, I hope it works well with word processors like MS Word.

Years ago I learned that exporting from Logos to Word would strip highlights, ergo I created a visual filter that changes the color of the font rather than highlighting over the text.

My dream would be a both/and solution (as we have now) rather than an either/or.

I recognize that some users would prefer to use a very complex visual filter (https://wiki.logos.com/Extended_Tips_for_Highlighting_and_Visual_Filters#Examples_of_visual_filters) and others prefer something that can be exported for use in Word processors and presentation software (https://community.logos.com/forums/t/134062.aspx), placing limitations on export/print/copy_to_clipboard can provide a hindrance to Academic and Community collaboration with those outside of Logos.

With the new notes/highlights implementation I hope we can avoid conflict similar to the one that arose over NASB paragraph visual filter vs. those who wanted to retain the previous format by having a BOTH a notation system that can be exported AND an expanded pallet of markups within the Logos ecosystem.

Yep, Libby got her highlighting tools removed, when she couldn't export correctly. Since then, she's been limited to coloring the text.

On Logos, I routinely delete the notes documents, so no problem. Highlight with gusto.

I call it Stacking Highlights and it can be done not just to blend highlights but create one off highlighting formats that you don't want to go to the trouble of creating a unique highlight for permanently.

Word and Logos are different pieces of software. The limitations of exporting highlights are due to Word and other programs. There is nothing wrong with Logos Bible Software. It is specialist software with specialist highlighting options. It should not be dumbed down and compromised to make its highlighting capabilities to match Word or any other Word Processong, Presentation or Publishing software. If that argument is carried to its fullest we may as well limit Logos Bible Software to no highlighting options and all text only exports just in case we exclude someone who does not use it.

If something is not broken why fix it? The imcompatabilties of Word and other software are what they are and always will exists. If we start changing the software to makes is highlighting options comparable with Word etc why stop there? We might as well change the format of resources also so Logos is able to work with weaker resource formats. It does not matter that we would loose functionality - after all it's just a bit of tagging. What matters is we would be ensuring Logos Bible Software works just like other software and so FL is being inclusive of those who choose not to invest in the company and purchase its software.

You might be one Alabama, but are not the only one who thinks removing the advanced formatting options of Logos to make it comparable with word is a bad idea. FL indeed needs to give us more options, more colours - let us blend our own colours, give us more icons; don't take away features but do as the MVP says and give us more control.

But I can understand his issue. My main Bible software is my own, so I can logically alter the highlights coding in a copy/paste. But I'd think Logos has recog'd MS products already, through it's embedding menu choices. Just one more.

Or I'm missing Dave's point.

Denise I am not arguing with anybody just getting in and making my position clear on the topic.

David had to go there and bring up the NASB fiasco and that issue despite FL pretending it is not an issue - it still is Bob Pritchett - and we are waiting on those promised continued improvements to the visual filter for one verse per line.

I don't want FL thinking users too want highlighting options dumbed down or anything else just to satisfying the crowd that speaks the loudest like they did with the NASB. So on this topic I have no disagreement anyone Denise. I sympathise with David's issue but I passionately believe dumbing down the software should never be considered.

By bringing up the NASB issue, I was simply trying to say "I hear the frustration on both sides." Some users may boldy post for their preferred direction that the software developers would move. And other users may boldly post for another direction. My attempts at communicating, "Let's not move in a direction that causes some to win and some to lose, but look for a win/win" are apparently inadequate.

I have no problems with those who prefer a complex highlighting scheme, and I have no problems with those who prefer to integrate Logos into other tools of communication. I personally use both of these preferences. I use some highlighting within Logos that won't export and I realize that limitation, but I have other forms of notation in Logos that I use BECAUSE they will export.
