Dynamic pricing question

So I don't see any dynamic pricing posts that are current enough to add to. I was curious if you purchase something like AYBC for example. If you but AYBC with a base package, it is $1499.00 currently. Normally $2099.00. So if you buy a base package like Lutheran portfolio or collector's. How will the dynamic pricing work down the road? First off, Will buying a "Large/expensive" libray make a big difference on dynamic pricing? and will it be off the actual value, or what you paid?

I had another post, "I bought Collector's first", I have since returned it, but I am curious if I did take advantage of the AYBC price would it make collector's even cheaper a year or so from now (assuming prices don't change too much)

It will make a difference.

Neither. Your savings on a future package isn't based on the price or value of AYBC in general, or the price or value of Lutheran, or even the cost of AYBC within Lutheran. You don't get a fixed amount off of anything else you buy which happened to contain AYBC.

Your dynamic savings will be based on the cost of AYBC in the library you'd buy down the road (e.g. Collector's). For example, AYBC in Collector's might only work out to be $60, so your Collector's dynamic price (if it was only affected by AYBC alone) would reduced by $60.

But Lutheran Portfolio and Collector's overlap in many other areas besides AYBC. So, you'd get dynamic savings on each of the other resources which were in Lutheran and also are in Collector's.

It would make Collector's even cheaper, right away, but not necessarily a year or so from now. Libraries are redone every version. I don't know if AYBC is one of those sets that would always be in Collector's or if it would get rotated out and replaced by something else for L8.

But $1499 isn't really a good price for AYBC, because is only 28% off regular price. You're not saving that much by buying it individually. You're really still paying a premium for it.

You can always get it for much less by buying it in a library, where it might be 90% off, 95% off, 98% off, assuming you also want all the other resources you'd be paying for.

Speaking in general about sales, they come and go and come and go.

You're not missing anything for that particular AYBC sale, because it regularly goes on sale for that price.

25-30% off is, well, typical of a sale. What you want to keep an eye out for are the exceptional deals that infrequently happen that come with much steeper discounts (60-70% off), where you can't save even more (because the item isn't available for less in a library).

Here's a recent example. WBC is never available in a library, because Zondervan doesn't permit it to be bundled. It's regularly $1199. WBC doesn't regularly go on sale. Last December it went on sale for $899. But earlier this year, it went on sale for $399.

Here's another example. NIC is currently 30% off. That's a typical sale. But infrequently you can get it or its volumes for 70% off. NIC has never been a part of a base package, so 70% off is probably the best we'd probably see in the future.

The point is that FL always has sales, over and over and over. Some end up being better than others. I guess if you need something now, 30% off is better than full price, but if you can be patient and can get by without it for now, you probably can get it for less.

There is also a Facebook resale group where people sell their logos resources they don't want anymore. I think someone was looking to get rid of wbc the other day.

Hello!...I have never posted before but I am curious about the current sale. I was looking at picking up the "Interpretation: Bible Commentary for Preaching and Teaching"...the volumes are half off which if I get all 43 comes to $585. (The regular set price is $799.) Is this a good sale? Has it ever been less expensive? Should I go ahead or wait? Thanks for suggestions!

That's a 27% discount. From my understanding that a decent "regular" kind of sale (20-30% off) and similar to the Eerdmans sale where commentaries are also 30% off.

I'm not sure how the sale works though, because if you buy 5+ commentaries you get "50% off" and $585 is not 50%. It might be worth a call in to a sales rep and see if that is the right way to read it - if you could get INT at $400 instead (that seems like a real 50% off of $799), that would sweeten the deal (but I may have read it wrong.)

I, personally, haven't seen the interpretation set go on sale before. I ended up getting my set at a big discount through purchasing Methodist Gold (which if you end up getting a base package and spend $600, you get a $60 coupon to spend on whatever else you want.)

Allen I do not remember seeing Interp. lower than that, it may well happen but I think that is close to the prepub price which is typically as good as you usually find in Logos, although at times deals can be made with publishers and a phenomenal deal can happen but those things in Logos seem fairly rare.

As for dynamic pricing, if x set is owned by you the value of the set within the large collection is removed (now that is not to say you paid $2500 for it so the set is $2500 cheaper, but the discounted rate of $1600 that the set is being valued at in the collection is being removed from the equation to make sure you are saving $1600 off the collection.

The other day for example I realized that I had missed Brazos Collisions purchasing it singularly would have been $38 purchasing it through the 20 volume collection and dynamic pricing i paid $27, reversing it around if I own that volume and had paid $38 for it I would not get $38 off the collection because the value of the volume within the set is reduced to $27, meaning I save that $27 purchasing the set. You do get a discount and you are never*** being forced to duplicate books, you are getting credit for what you own and it's value within the collection.

*** There are certain publishers who will not allow dynamic pricing. So if you owned every volume of a Zondervan or Nelson series and tried to purchase a set to get that last volume you would be paying for every volume over again. Zondervan/Nelson are the ones primarily that will not allow dynamic pricing of their collections, so while I would advise it isn't a bad thing to pick up a single WBC volume or two that you really want to use if you go to buy a collection set of WBC there would be no taking in to account you own one volume already and should get $X off for owning it.

Yes.

To use a specific example for the OP, let's take AYBD. It's normally $269, but you can usually get it for $189 individually, or for far less in a library.

Let's say you paid $189 for it, then wanted to buy Gold. AYBD is included in Gold, and its cost in that library is ~$4. So your dynamic price for Gold would drop by ~$4.

AYBD is also included in Platinum. Suppose you wanted to buy Platinum instead of Gold. AYBD might work out to be $5 in Platinum, so your Platinum dynamic price would drop by $5.

So, paying a lot for AYBD individually (even at a 30% discount) wouldn't save very much on dynamic pricing for a library. But if you bought Gold before buying AYBD individually, you'd have gotten AYBD for ~$4 (because libraries offer the biggest discounts at over 90% off).

That's why I wouldn't spend $1500 for a commentary set, because for the same price I could get a library containing that commentary set and 600 other resources (assuming those 600 other resources made it worth spending $1500 for the library).

This is very true, except they can temporarily offer it if they choose to. Zondervan allowed dynamic pricing on WBC when they put it on sale for $899 last December, so you could have completed your set for less then $899. But they didn't offer it when they put WBC on sale for $399, so you'd pay again for any volumes you already owned.

Interpretation is on sale for less than $200 bucks on another software. Luckily I own it in Logos as part of a base package. But I own other important commentaries that are cheaper in my second main Bible software.

I spoke with someone at Logos and I was told if I bought AYBC and within 6 months bought Lutheran Portfolio, All the money I paid for AYBC would go towards the upgrade. After 6 months it will be dynamic pricing.
