Getting reference into EndNote

Hi there,

I am trying to work out whether there is quicker way to get a reference from Logos into EndNote. At the moment the process I am following is as follows:

1. Clip part of the resource into a Clippings document

2. Ctrl+P to export

3. Select RIS format and save the file

4. Import RIS file into EndNote

This process takes about 30 seconds per resource. Whilst this doesn't sound like a long time, when repeated multiple times it can be quite annoying. In fact it is so slow that I've taken to going to the Info page and copying the info and pasting directly into EndNote, this is quicker. I feel like I must be missing something, does anyone know a quick way of doing this please?

Hi Paul

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to end up with - some of the text of a resource or a link to a resource.

If the latter then the following steps work in OneNote (I don't use Endnote)

Position the resource to the correct place
Click the panel icon (top left) and - towards the bottom - click "Copy as L4"
Then paste the link into a note (in OneNote this is done using ctrl-k)

Then clicking the resultant link will open the resource in Logos to the correct place

Thanks Graham. EndNote is a tool to allow you to easily create reference for academic papers etc. My aim is to get the bibliographical details of the resource into EndNote so I can cite etc in papers. Hope that helps clarify...

Hi Paul,

What's your workflow? Are you looking just to get single resources into Endnote one at a time, or thinking that you'll do it in batches? Also, are you adding whole resources, or do you sometimes want to add individual articles from dictionaries or journals?

Mainly I am capturing references to both book and articles as I go. I am aware that it could be more efficient to export multiple reference in one go, but this doesn't fit very well with my workflow.

I think in that case, I think the best you could do would be to:

Open a text file in Notepad or similar.
As you find resources to add to Endnote, click the (i) to go to the information panel, then copy the citation to the clipboard. The first time you do this, you'll need to change the format to RIS. That should be remembered for resources you open subsequently.
Paste the citation into the Notepad file.
Repeat steps (2) and (3) as often as required.
When you have added all your citations, save the file and import to Endnote.
