Why is it worth saving?
I preordered the reflections of God's holy land.. that one looks good. Just curious what the case for there perplexed book is
I honestly just thought it looked interesting from the sample pages... One reviewer referred to it as more or less a brief systematic theology from a liberal perspective. From that review and the sample pages I decided it was worth a shot, Not to mention picking up the paperback version would be $18, I fondly remember my reading of Ryrie's Basic theology and thought this might be similar for an Anglican perspective. I thought it was worth the chance for $10. I do tend to find SPCK a very reputable publisher and while the reviewer called it liberal the publisher history would suggest moderate Anglican (SPCK is not exclusively anglican but do publish a lot of the more evangelical side of the Anglican Church) which for some might be liberal for me it probably sits closer to conservative. I have not read it beyond the sample pages, but it stuck me as something I would like to read. It also struck me as a volume that should find a home in the Logos Anglican Library's Bronze and higher.... For these reasons I want it.. perhaps there are not enough others interested in it to make it worth Faithlifes time but I hope there is.
Thank you sir

The label seems unwarranted seeing SPCK is not prone to books that are far beyond Evangelical... The real reason maybe the discussion of different faiths and how they compare to Christianity. For some you may discuss another faith without strong condemnation and you are all of sudden reported being told you are promoting satanism... I have no idea what lead the gentleman to come up with that label but I am always interested when a person tells something that they see as a grave failing yet rate it highly. Leads me to feel it is a good book, although containing ideas he was not fully comfortable with.
Hello Roger:
Honestly, it's a fantastic book! I'd hate to see it cancelled. I hope it goes through!!!

The Power and Meaning of Love Is a collection of Thomas Merton's work and I was first introduced to him by a Devotional Bible that had a reading from him but later more fully by a former United Church pastor who considered Merton his spiritual mentor through his writings. This is one of the most profound mid 20th century Catholic voices to come out of America. Had I caught this book earlier I would have championed it earlier but still hope we can get enough interest to save it.
PS: Here is the devotional gem from that NCV Bible:
There are various ways of being happy and every [person] has the capacity to make [one’s] life what it needs to be for [one] to be have a reasonable amount of peace in it. Why then do we persecute ourselves with illusory demands, never content until we feel we have conformed to some standard of happiness that is not good for us only but for everyone? Why can we not be content with the secret gift of happiness that God offers us, without consulting the rest of the world? Why do we insist, rather, on a happiness that is approved by the magazines and TV? Perhaps because we do not believe in a happiness that is given to us for nothing. We do not think we can be happy with a happiness that has no price tag on it.
If we are fools enough to remain at the mercy of people who want to sell us happiness, it will be impossible for us to ever be content with anything. How would they profit if we became content? We would no longer need their new product.
The last thing the sales[person] wants is for the buyer to become content. You are of no use in affluent society unless you are always just about to grasp what you can never have.
The Greeks were not as smart as we are. In their primitive way they put tantalus in hell. Madison Avenue, on the contrary, would convince us that Tantalus is in heaven.
God gives us freedom to make our lives within the situation which is the gift of His love to us, and by means of the power His love grants us. But we feel guilty about it. We are quite capable of being happy in the life He has provided us, in which we can contentedly make our own way, helped by His grace. We are ashamed to do so. For we need one thing more than happiness: we need approval. And the need for approval destroys our capacity for happiness. “How can you believe, who seek glory from another?”[John 5:44]
For the United States, approval has to be bought-not once, not ten times, but a thousand times over every day.
Leond Bloy remarked on this characteristic of our society: A businessman will say of someone the he knows him if he knows he has money.
To say of someone “I do not know him” means, in business, “I am not sure that he will pay.”
But if he has money, and proves it, then “I know him.”
So we have to get money and keep spending it in order to be known, recognized as human. Otherwise we are excommunicated.
--Thomas Merton, conjectures of a guilty bystander.

Last chance!
Well, Roger, you always recommend the unexpected.
Darcy and Jesus. I have wondered about both the odd female-orientation in Luke, and the competition of Jesus and husbands (true). I suspect, that's why 'Mary' was needed in the early centuries. Calm it down, a bit.
But I decided for 'Bible for Sinners' although the author seems to wander around a lot. 'Cut to the chase' comes to mind.
OOPS: No Kindle. So I switched to https://www.amazon.com/Sinners-Jesus-His-Earliest-Followers-ebook/dp/B00IGDXLDQ (not a good choice for hot-sin afficionados).
Denise,
I noticed that Greg Carey author of Sinners: Jesus and His Earliest Followers has a book in Vyrso https://vyrso.com/product/56618/apocalyptic-literature-in-the-new-testament
Everyone,
Please consider helping https://www.logos.com/product/40932/spck-biblical-studies-collection and https://www.logos.com/product/39315/the-power-and-meaning-of-love make it into production. The collection is much closer and Thomas Merton is now "Almost there!"
Thanks!
Thank you, Roger. I finished the other volume (1/2 notes). Greg's definitely not for evangelical consumption, since his underlying assumptions hit all the evil hot-buttons. But if you ignore that, his observations are excellent relative to a pre-creedal perspective. He points out the narritive dancing to avoid crossing the Torah (Jesus). Only to be presented with what exactly might be a sin (at the time), in order to be sinless.
I could tell, he liked Revelations. I'll get the apocalyptic book, since they're few and far between.

Bump!
On August 8th Ben posted 14 pre-pubs to be cancelled in 30 days. To date, three resources are now safely in production, another three made it to about 75% (2 of which are now classified as "Almost there"), and the remainder are about 50% or below. I personally hope the obvious customer interest, based on orders, will save the following from the cut:
https://www.logos.com/product/39315/the-power-and-meaning-of-love
https://www.logos.com/product/40932/spck-biblical-studies-collection
https://www.logos.com/product/47214/from-advent-to-harvest-resources-for-worship-in-a-complex-world
The pre-pub cancellation notifications and ensuing discussions occur entirely within the forum user community. The individual resource pages do not indicate impending cancellation and removal from the catalog. The pre-pub "Last Chance" appears to apply only to product ship dates upon graduation to the main catalog.
Not original suggestions:
Place a notification on the product page regarding the projected date of removal from the pre-pub catalog.
Include these products in the "Last Chance" classification.
The above suggestions will allow broader participation by the full customer base in the fate of these resources.

The above pre-pubs are still alive and moving closer to the finish line.
