dictation into Logos 7.

Hi there,

I’m just wondering if anybody is currently using dictation and voice commands to get around Logos 7 and to write their notes and clipping comments. If you are, what are you using? i.e Windows or Mac, internal dictation features or something like Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

I have Dragon on Windows 10. It's value with Logos for navigation is going to be pretty limited unless you have the professional version that lets you create custom commands that can trigger macros to send keystroke combinations.

Now that I'm back home, I opened up Logos and Dragon to try some things. For reference, I am using Logos 7 and Dragon Professional Individual 15. If I open up the Library window and try dictating into it with Dragon, Dragon has to open up the Dictation Box, let you dictate into it, and then transfer the text over into the Library window (as opposed to letting you dictate directly into the Library window to find a book by title, author, etc.). The same is true for Factbook, the guides, notes files, and even sermon documents. In other words, yes, one could theoretically use Dragon to navigate Logos, take notes in it, and even write sermons, but you will have to do a lot of transferring from the Dictation Box along the way.

I wonder if it is the same on an Apple Mac though. I am currently weighing up whether to switch platforms or not.

That I cannot help you with. I do not know if on the Windows side of things that is something Logos can do anything about (providing boxes that support rich text?) or if we are 100% dependant on Nuance (the makers of Dragon) for compatibility improvements. Either way, I would not expect the situation to change anytime soon. Even if Faithlife can do something, I don't know that they would because it would only impact such a small percentage of users.

Just out of interest I testing the dictation on a Mac.

I managed to open library, (I was using the built in dictation up to this point but when trying to dictate 'select a' it actually selected 'a') so to continue.

... select a (continuing with dictation) resource and openly to a specific page all using the built-in dictation system without any added extras.

You do need to get be familiar with some of the commands punctuation for instance in order to make the system work satisfactorily.

I have not corrected any of this text apart from the business with a selection.
