The voice feature isn't working for me.

This is what I'm guessing:  The 7.10 beta isn't necessary to use FA, since I'm on 7.9 and have access to it (I'm in the beta, but can't get 7.10 yet). But I don't see a microphone icon, so apparently that requires 7.10.

You got it, Robert. The microphone/speech-to-text feature requires 7.10.

How do you set the daily reading from a devotional? Getting error message from daily reading.

It depends a bit on whether you mean a devotional resource (resource type:Calendar Devotional), or a reading plan you have created.

You should be able to get today's reading from a devotional with a question like "What is today's devotion?" This will open your top-prioritized devotional resource to today's date.

Or, you can open your most recent reading plan (mostly commonly for reading the Bible) with "read today's reading," or a variation.

If you have a set up a reading plan document on a devotional resource (for example, if you want to read it on a schedule other than today's date), I'm not sure what it would do. [:)] If you are getting an error, please report it through the feedback form here: https://goo.gl/forms/NnIO7Hj7IZeDmjhc2

Thanks for your reply, Randy. The tool is still very immature and probably will never reach the level of expectation I have for it... but still a good start.

My rationale is that for anyone who spends some time with the program, we don't really need help opening the Factbook or the Sermon Starter. We could have done that ourselves and don't really need an alternative way to find and open those tools.

I believe it's the incredibly complex and arbitrary-looking search syntax that stumps most users, even long-time users. I was hoping this tool will finally allow for an alternative way to access those complex tagging without having to memorize search syntax like a programmer, by using natural language searches. If that's not the direction and one of the main goals of this tool and this project, I'd be immensely disappointed and think this is a missed opportunity.

Input: Does Mark 16:9-20 belong in the Bible?

Response: I didn’t understand that. Would you like to search for “Does Mark 16:9-20 belong in the Bible?”?

Eventually I would think that questions like this should be able to open the Exegetical Guide, textual commentaries, relevant dictionary articles, etc. Would be great the assistant understood questions about textual criticism.

At least for testing but probably as handy feature overall, it would be immensely helpful to have command history, like using the up/down arrow to cycle through commands in a shell/command prompt. At least to recall the previous command.

Not quite sure how to fit this in the form.

If this is going to make it's way to mobile, well, even on desktop or mobile PC, it would be great to take down some jots, some temporary prayers, notes, etc., that can be sorted and moved about later. It would be much preferable to put them in the document you want them in at the time of creation, but I can imagine that being a huge hassle to implement. That's why I've made this recommendation to use a temp Jot document that everything goes into. Note that this doesn't need to open the document, just put the item in it.

    > Add a prayer

< What would you like to pray about?

    > [Pray for] the victims of the hurricanes.

< I've added that prayer to your Prayer Jot

    ---

    > Take a note

    < I'm ready to begin

    > blah blah blah

< I've added that note to your Note Jot.

In bible searches default range is your last executed search. Default should be entire bible.

    Beloved,

This follows the same behavior that opening a search panel does. The search panel opens with your last used settings.

I very strongly disagree with that behavior. It may take some reworking of the the app to allow it, but for the assistant (Zap ?) to produce a search which can never ever work or not work as expected is going to draw complaints. Esp if new users are using the assistant to learn, and it seems likely that this particular type of query this will be used most by new users. Please, reevaluate this.

    • The feedback form (https://goo.gl/Y7m2qb)  where a similar problem is encountered with pronunciation: Asking for a pronunciation simply opens the Pronunciation Tool, nothing entered in the filter, Default language selected. Respectfully, this, like the searches, are a useless feature, asking for complaints. It should behave better or not be an option at all. IE. Allow, "Show pronunciation tool" but not "How do you pronounce xxx?".

    Philana,

Because this is an entry level feature, its functions should behave with that assumption. On bible searches the default script should be All Passages and Entire Bible your Preferred Bible. This basic search will allow for more predictable interaction with the software. So, as it functions now it introduces confusion and as Randy notes increased probability of zero results.

    Hi Randy,

That's a good point, I'll pass on your feedback to the team.

What if you have 7.10 and it still doesn't work. I see the mic and it acts like it's listening, but does nothing.

Hopefully, it will be fixed in Beta 2.

Did the mic get disabled? I received my new microphone today, hooked it up, and now I notice the mic icon is gone with or without my mic hooked up. Cortana talks to me now, but not Zap (fka Faithlife Assistant).

It does respond to voice in Beta 2, usually to state "I didn't understand".  Despite having done all the Speech Recognition training, the 'vocabulary' of Logos can be misunderstood e.g. 'open English Standard Version' was better understood than 'open ESV', and 'open SBLGNT' was interpreted as 'sbl GNT' and the GNT (Good New Translation) was opened.

Shouldn’t it have a name? Alexa, Siri. Good assistants need a good name. How about King Solomon? Or Zaphkiel? Rolls off the tongue. If you need wisdom or knowledge of any kind you can always turn to your faithful assistant King Solomon or Zaphkiel. Stick out tongue

Is this feature being worked on at all? Using it's suggestion/correction instructions leads to months long silence and I've seen no indication of added features. This is a feature that could be made very useful but it appears to be another good idea that simply gets orphaned,

Can't understand. 'This is a preacher that could be a maid merry truthful ....' Please try again. (Smiling.)

I never even heard about the feature.
