New Windows option in 7.9 to make Logos faster

I cannot get it to run. It keeps saying "The system cannot find the path specified."
You really need to make this easier and clearer. Very frustrating!

What is the path you are using?

`[logosinstallpath]\Logos.exe /ngen`

Here is the command I run-
"C:\Users\bcook\AppData\Local\Logos\Logos.exe" /ngen
Here is a screenshot of the UAC
Mine shows a ngen.exe, but I believe that you are running it correctly and it is working correctly. You can see the exact command by clicking the "Show more details" link in that UAC dialog. But it looks like it's working as intended.

`[logosinstallpath]\Logos.exe /ngen`
[logosinstallpath] should be replaced with the path to your logos directory where it was installed.
You can determine the path a number of ways.
Right click on your Logos shortcut.
Click Properties on the menu.
Copy the text in "target" (for me it is C:\Users\Pastor\AppData\Local\Logos\Logos.exe".
In the command prompt, paste that followed by " /ngen".
You can run a command prompt and execute the command:
REG QUERY HKCU\Software\Logos4\ /v InstallDirectory
Or...... here's a two minute hack, shamelessly stealing code from Faithlife's SmartTags script.
Unzip that script to your desktop. Right Click on it and select Run with Powershell. It will run the proper command for you.

Unlike others here, I have found running "ngen" to consistently cause my startup to be slower than it was before, both from a fresh boot and from restarts within a boot (faster because of cache). I am keeping it off.

Likewise. Is there a reason for this?

I entered the command and it just booted Logos. there was no "do you want to allow this to make changes?" prompt

Yes, it is as slow or slower for me, too. I certainly can detect no speedier startup.

Right click on your Logos shortcut.
Click Properties on the menu.
Copy the text in "target" (for me it is C:\Users\Pastor\AppData\Local\Logos\Logos.exe".
In the command prompt, paste that followed by " /ngen".
Visually if it helps. Right click on that icon anywhere you see it and assuming it opens Logos.
When Properties opens, the text you want should be highlighted and ready to copy so use ctrl-C
In the Windows System Command Prompt window right click your mouse and that should paste the text.
Add /ngen
Hit Enter

Thank you! This was very helpful!
I have restarted the program about 3 times. The first time, there was no difference in speed. The second and third time it loaded within 5-10 seconds.
Thank you again! God's blessings on your day!

Those of you who are seeing no improvement or worse startup times, are you starting up the application every time using the new command line parameter (you should only be running the command once)?
Also, I would not expect to see any improvement the first time you start up (and in fact could be slower as your system is doing additional work in the background to prepare for future startups). You'll have to wait for 30 seconds or so after starting up with the additional parameter before you see any improvement on subsequent startups.Something like this:
I have restarted the program about 3 times. The first time, there was no difference in speed. The second and third time it loaded within 5-10 seconds.

Yup,
That's the missing ingredient.

I restarted my computer, the program, etc. multiple times. But, I will try again... Then, Logos crashed and produced an error log... I'll include it later.

You don't need to restart your computer. I found it essential to follow Andrew's advice above explicitly. In addition, Justin's instructions below add to the facility of the process.
To add the refinement mentioned by Pieter, I would just open Notepad and paste the script (C:\Users\Pastor\AppData\Local\Logos\Logos.exe /ngen) into it and save it on the desktop as LogosSpeed.bat. From now on, you can double click that with each new Logos update to take advantage of the speed improvement.

This is what worked for me. Doing the way that was suggested did not produce better speed. But creating the .bat file did. For those who create the .bat file, once you run it, be sure to wait for the program to finish. For me, when the program finished, it immediately opened up Logos. After I closed it and opened it again, the speed was better

4) Create a link in logos on toolbar
How do you do that?

That's the message from this thread, and Faithlife is working on it.

You can drag the icon of the .bat file to the Logos shortcut bar; which is on the right side of the Command box.

Thanks. That works

I just tried the ngen command and it makes L7 open faster on my Win desktop which still uses a conventional hard drive. [Y][8-|]

Mine is still as slow as ever.
I have Intel i7 6700HQ 2.60GHz, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, SSD Drive, nVidia GTX960M running Win10 Pro 64... About 9 seconds to load a blank layout. Perhaps that is considered fast.

My first start up after I turned my computer on today was 3 minutes and change. That's a lot! However, after everything is up and running, I close the application, let it sync and it starts up a little faster than what it used to. Oh well! Maybe someday they'll figure out how to really speed up the program. Patience 👍😁👌

Just done this and it has speeded up a fairly good time already.
The only niggle was that it removed my existing unsaved layout by not following my preferences in my setting. No big deal though. I had too much on there anyway so it was only like my wife tidying and putting my books away without warning me first0 -
Really surprised that FL went down this road, Hopefully this type of temporary Band-Aid will be used infrequently.

Thanks Philana, Andrew and everyone who commented. It was very helpful and the program speed has indeed improved. Keep well Paul

After running the command, I see a slight speed improvement. Startup time had been running 20-23 seconds--now it's 16-20 seconds. In comparison, Accordance startup time runs 8-9 seconds with more resources open. I will always be thankful for any improvement in startup time and of course in general response time as well, once Logos is running, so I would love to see Logos on par with Accordance startup and response time.
But I switched to a SSD about two years ago, and that cut my Logos startup time to less than half of what it had been before. I can't speak to how it would have affected Accordance because I didn't have Accordance when using a HDD. But I'm also running a current gen I7 with 16 GB RAM, so between that and the SSD, I'd be very disappointed if Logos took much longer to open than it does now, and/or if response was any slower than it is now once it's running.
Bottom line for me ...thank you Faithlife for continuing to work on this. Please keep at it. For me, 16-20 seconds is acceptable--8-9 seconds would be very nice.

You can save a further 2s if your Startup is "Most recent layout - any" by making it "Most recent layout - local" (but only if you don't want to share the layout with another installation that has the same Logos account).

Strictly, .bat is old hat and it should be .cmd; just rename the file as LogosSpeed.cmd.
