What if . . . . Exporting and Shareing / Importing Collection Definitions

It would be a very useful (ok, call it interesting) endeavor to form collections of resources based on theological viewpoints, denominational schools of thought, etc and then compare and contrast the search results based on those categorizations.

However, the personal time it would take to tag resources and or define collections along these lines make me a bit light headed just imagining the task. This would best be undertaken by groups of interested parties, but the ability to import and selectively apply tags to resources and share collection definitions would need to be available.

Does any one else see the utility of this line of thought?

Interesting. Personally, not for me.

I see one major problem...How do you decide what denomination a resource would fall into. There are some theologians who match well with me in one topic and they have jumped into the fire on another topic. The fact that we have resources of different theologians in the first place is everything I need. Its going to take me forever to read everything but moving through books as fast as I can with logos makes it fun to try. [:D]

I thought I might get an objection or two to denominational filtering . . . . .[;)] This was probably too narrow of a choice of focus.

I look at the result of this process as a literature review focused from a broader point of view than denominational affiliation.

Certainly the question would be "Who decides what the label (tags) would be?" The response to that would be "Who ever decides to tag the resource." If, as a community, we began to tag books as we read through them, the preponderance of engaged readers would decide and we could choose for our personal application based on a tag cloud for each resource. I am sure you have seen these on different blogs. Logos 4 uses tag cloud presentation in the passage guide tool to cause interesting words to jump out for study.

So, it would make sense that as we add books to our collection, we would have an opportunity to be shown how the community at large tags the books and choose to adopt, reject, or supplement our own tags. This way, our dynamic collections would continue to be populated as we add resources, and our collections would reflect that.

This could also be a clever marketing tool for Logos. "Other Logos users who tagged this resource with BLANK, tagged these resources with BLANK." This sort of directed marketing has earned my wages at Amazon and the iTunes store on many occasions.

The power of creating dynamic Collections within Logos 4 is really an untapped venue for directed searching which translates to the potential of God's word to be revealed and applied in meaning full and creative ways.

William, I agree with you on this matter - even the denominational filtering. A couple of discussions have gone this way in the past. Even to the point of the wiki page being created with some user created dynamic collections.

Like the marketing portion of your idea. I would tend to research and then purchase items that were tagged or rated favorably by people who are using the same books I use for study.

Thanks Mark, great stuff in that Wiki Link. Also interesting is the reference to the tag (vs MyTag) category of metadata and the idea of community tagging. Logos is way ahead of my desires it would seem. Something to look forward to.
