Text Compaison is Outdoing 'It's a mess'

I'm on 7.9.0.0021 windows

1. Trying to type in a Bible list is out of the question? I never got it to work. Had to select from a long random list of Bibles. When I typed in a myTag, it selected them individually, all mixed up, and the list well off the sceen. What a mess.

2. I guess we're stuck with the bug, where you type in a changed verse number, and it scrolls to somewhere. A recent earlier gentleman reported this, but I couldn't find the thread. It happens when you change only the verse number, not the chapter and/or book (both initiate a new 'get'; changing only the verse mixes the software up).

3. I selected a coptic Bible collection. That was all gibberish. If Logos only supports 3 languages in TC, so be it. Yes, my coptics resources individually display normally.

4. Finally, using the resource selection panel, I never did see how to get it to actually go get the Bible text. You can't type in the same Bible reference; instead it demands a new reference. There's no go button, etc

Just noting the mess status.

I don't typically use the Text Comparison feature, but after seeing your post I decided to see if I experienced the problems you described. I can't speak to issues 1 and 3 yet, but I didn't have the problems described in 2 and 4, nor with the text comparison range Francis used. My resource list is not referencing a collection though as I believe the list Francis used is doing, so I don't know if that's a factor.

When I initially entered the scripture range, I did not have the NRSV included as a resource. After it displayed without the NRSV, I added the NRSV and it came up fine. The only thing I noticed, is that the text comparison does not actually stop/end with Genesis 2:3. I.e. I could keep scrolling beyond that verse.

I have the same version of Logos (7.9.0.0021) on a Windows 10 laptop.

This is most likely because the first Bible returned by your "Bibles" collection does not have Genesis 1. I recommend adding whichever Bible you want as the first Bible to the front of your list (you can drag-drop to rearrange the order of items in the list). The first Bible is significant, because the Text Comparison tool will use that Bible for navigation.

But that's how I got into the latest mess. I had previously forced an all-books Bible first in the myTag group, by renaming the title. I thought today, that I should clean up my design by using an 'NRSV, myTag:Bibles' type of spec, so the apocrypha is included. Things went downhill from there. I'm sure if Rick figured it out, it must be do-able (no offence to Rick), but after a half-hour I gave up, and renamed the NRSV back. I'll stick with that; the design is a doozy.

The bug with changing a verse number has been around a while. I'm guessing the code-spec got left out.

And probably coptic'ers are not a dime-a-dozen, so. Metzger had gone over the shift in coptic, but Logos wasn't up to it.

It sounds to me like you are over-complicating things by renaming stuff. I recommend creating a collection based on your tag. When you add a collection, it will not add each of the individual resource, but keep them all grouped together as one item. Then add your complete canon Bible first and the collection second.

I'm afraid I don't follow your description of the problem with verse numbers. I can't recreate any kind of problem with it. Likewise, I can't see anything wrong with Coptic Bibles. A screenshot might help. I also don't understand what you are explaining in your last point about the resource selection panel. Again, a screenshot would help.

After typing verse number, suggest waiting for Text Comparison (TC) to show list of resources. For example, had TC open to John 1 followed by typing 1.3 and learned TC can find 1.3 in many resources (does not include the Bibles currently being compared):

I think we better just call it a day.

I tried the coptics again; still garbage. Work fine as linked resources. I instead selected a mytag greek series. Had to re-type the Bible ref to force use. But no results since Bezae was first. It's really quite crazy ... you need a working knowledge of the mss's, which verses, alpha-sequence, etc to use the Logos TC. And no, choosing a full-text Bible obviates looking at mss's.

And I still don't see how to type in a series of Bibles. When I do that, it adds to the previous (which are no longer shown as choices in the drop-down.

And suggesting a collection for a mytag group really sounds odd. Since mytags have worked fine from L4+.

Anyway, let's call it a day .. and gaze at all the strange thread titles today.

EDIT: To re-test TC, I wanted to clear my (huge) layout. I tried that brand-spanking-new circle-x button, next to the help button. Big mistake, as I watched the amount of time/cycles as Logos struggled to close. It was truly heartbreaking, if you code. The clear command converted to a button works a whole lot more efficiently. And it's not next to help, where your finger can miss by a tiny bit (touch-screen). I really wonder about Logos design processes.

If a collection is first (on top), then first resource title in ascending order is used for TC navigation. A collection can be MyTag: (since every Tag is a collection).

My collection "Bible Compare English" has Reverse Interlinear Bibles that have been enabled for Interlinear comparison in the New Testament.

Personally have added year prefix to Bible Titles so sorting titles in ascending order has 1900 KJV first. To use NRSV first, can add resource. First clicked on Collection for drop down list followed by filtering for nrsv

Clicked box by NRSV to add to TC list

Cleared filter to show collection and NRSV

Dragged NRSV above collection:

Clicking TC Bible reference OR clicking NRSV (in TC list) OR switching application causes TC refresh so NRSV is now the Bible for TC navigation and comparison

Indeed. The collection appears to have been corrupted (lots of stuff in there I would not have put in and yet I created this collection). This problem at least is solved.
