Searching the Lectionary

From my reading of the 'Search Fields' on the information panel.

The Revised Common Lectionary should be searchable by 'A scripture reading in a lectionary'

However when I type

Mark 14:43-52

or any other reference into the search field at the top of the panel I get no results.

1. Is this a bug?

2. Am I doing something wrong?

3. Have I completely misunderstood the situation?

If you type your reference text into the inline search box you will get results

Edit: Mk14.43-52 does not give results, but, Mk14 does

I still wonder why the other box doesn't work?

The "reference" box in the resource navigates by milestones. In the lectionary, this is dates (calendar and liturgical). To search the contents of the reosurce, you need to use Basic Search or Inline Search.

This is referring to the "Search Fields" listed in Resource Info (click the circled (i) ).

To search by this field, change "All Text" in the Search panel (Basic or inline). This will find that reference where it's specifically tagged as a lectionary reading (not any other mention of that reference).

I eventually got the same results as you and somewhat furthered my education in the process.

I stumbled on the way because I didn't know where you got the 'intersects' word from - I eventually realised that you have to type it in yourself.

I had some more head scratching until I noticed that the 'i' of' intersects' needs to be lower case.

Perhaps these particular oddities could be born in mind when usability comes up for discussion.

Still! I now know how to do it my thoughts are with those who follow on - I'll do my best to spread the 'Good News' :-)

A normal search <Mk 14:43> won't find the lectionary reading Mk 14:1-15:47 because it crosses chapter boundaries e.g. it would work OK with a lectionary reading of Mk 14:1-60. But <intersects Mk 14:43> will find the lectionary reading i.e. "look for anything that intersects Mk 14:43".

Another cool thing you can do is customize your passage guide by adding the "Liturgy" section to it. It's there by default in Verbum but you have to add it in Logos (I think they should be in both by default but alas...). Then when you put a passage into the passage guide you can see where it appears in all of the lectionaries in your library.

I had the same reaction when I figured this out. One of the early steps of passage study for me is checking to see where the passage falls in the lectionary/Church Calendar. I just happened to install Verbum just to see how it was different and saw that section in the passage guide. Glad I could help.
