Android app laggy
I've used the Logos app on a Samsung S5, HTC 10, Oneplus 3T, as well as a couple iPhones. iPhones, no problem. Android though is jerky and jittery when scrolling, unlike the smooth iPhone counterpart. Very hard to maintain eye contact with a line when the page lags. I would love to access my hundreds of dollars of Bible resources but as it stands now the Android app is too poorly optimized to be usable. I've been waiting for a couple years for a update and I don't understand why this hasn't gotten fixed yet...is it because more people uses iPhone so the Android version is not a priority? Apparently there was a recent update that said it fixed the "Display rendering issue while in Scroll View"....nope it didn't, still jerky. Also when I have the app open, my wifi and cell signal disappear - see attached screenshot.

Thanks for the response.
The wifi and cell signal are gone.

Correct, I've never had an Android app completely hide my phone and wifi signals in the status bar. It's not normal.
Are you a Logos dev? Do they frequent these forums? I've tried submitting feedback via email but I never get a response.

Hey Izzy,
I'm Daniel, our Mobile Product Manager at Faithlife. I'm sure the lag on Android displays is frustrating. It impacts some users more than others-- but you're right-- it needs to change. We're going to be focusing some development efforts early next year on improving Android performance, which will include (hopefully) better scrolling.

Thank you very much for your reply and reaching out, it's very nice to get a reply from a manager. And I appreciate the update. Are you able to speak to the technical reason why only the Android version suffers from this issue? Just curious. Do you need more Android devs?
I look forward to the improvements, this is a very important app on my phone as it is my daily interaction with the Word. Thanks again!

Do you know any? We're hiring.
There are a few major technical challenges that we face on Android that we don't have with iOS. They're not insurmountable, which is why we're devoting more resources to a more performant Android experience in 2018.

No, I'm just a Network Engineer who dabbles in Python, Java and batch scripts, but alas, Android dev I am not. I've thought about downloading the SDK since I know Java and messing with it. Would be a fun job though!
Do you happen to know if the scrolling lag is because of Android's aggressive cache removal and garbage collection? As in, when loading Hebrews 11, all the cross refs and hyperlinks that are cache get swept away since they aren't in focus, and thus have to be reloaded constantly? I've heard this is a major difference between iOS and Android. Also, it seems iOS prioritizes UI functions for the CPU's threads so when scrolling or pressing buttons, all other function calls get paused to handle the UI and then resumes the other call whereas Android processes both app functions and UI simultaneously leading to screen lag when loading heavy resources such as a Logos library? Sorry for the questions, this stuff is just fun to learn.

Thank you for posting this. I thought it was just me. I've tried the Logos app multiple times for the last few years, including this most recent huge update. But for all the features, if I can't scroll through my Bible text smoothly (which I believe is a basic and not onerous requirement), then I can't use it. So, I have to uninstall it and revert to a competitor app again.

Yeah I really like the new update, more user friendly and well designed, but it's still laggy. Unfortunately, I don't think Logos has any competitors especially with the amount of resources I've purchased, I'm kinda stuck with how it is. I've haven't seen any mobile apps that have the features or resources they do. Oh well, hopefully like Daniel said, they'll be making the performance better soon!
