Launching Updated Mobile Apps

Hello, everyone!

We're excited to share that today we launched the biggest update to our reader apps ever.

Starting today, you can download the redesigned Logos, Verbum, FSB, and Vyrso apps from Google Play and the App Store.

Introducing Tabbed Browsing: You can now open multiple books, tools and documents in tabs and effortlessly navigate between them with a left or right swipe.

Introducing Reference Scanner: take a picture of your church bulletin or syllabus and Reference Scanner will read the verse references, allowing you to open them up in your app.

Introducing Bible button: click the bottom center Bible icon to set and quickly jump to your preferred Bible.

Simplified reading screen and navigation bar.

Hopefully the next big change is how resources are managed... being able to filter based on whether something is downloaded or by type is long overdue!

Excellent job sirs/madams! I hope one day that the syncing of resources will apply to series as well as individual resources. By that I mean, having a multi-volume commentary in a tab and having it follow you through different books.

Great update! Took me a few minutes to get the hang of it but once I did I loved the changes. I wish the windows in the multi-tab view were just a little bit larger but that may not be possible with the aspect ratio on smartphone screens.

It does work on iPads but recently support for devices running versions prior to 10 was dropped as per https://community.logos.com/forums/t/153475.aspx

Boy, maybe I'm missing something here, but I am struggling with the new release. I appreciate the hard work, and the new features, but I have been tripped up by a number of things:

I can not find how to DL an entire commentary set. I am pretty sure the previous version of the app did this. Each time I go to a new Bible book, I have to manually download the corresponding commentary. In fact, in split screen, with Bible on top and New American Commentary on bottom, if I jump to a verse with no corresponding commentary downloaded, I get a "Navigation Failed" error.
I cannot find how to view just my downloaded resources, in case I need to remove some to free up space.
Scroll left and right through tabs stopped working; had to shut down the app and restart. (During which I found that the back arrow does not back out of the app like it does in most apps I am used to, but goes back to previous reference. Which wouldn't be so bad if there were an Exit option in the app, but alas, there is not.)
But by far, the most frustrating thing is that scrolling down through bible text stutters, and the "pause circle" appears constantly. This is especially true if there is a split screen. This has been my nemesis with Logos apps since the first time I tried it a couple years ago, and nothing has changed. I have a competitor's bible app on my screen, and scrolling through the exact same resources on a split screen in that app is silky smooth, not a single pause.

I have an Android S7 Edge 4GB, not even a year old, Android 7.0. It is entirely possible I am missing something obvious, so feel free to point out where I am not being fair or have missed a setting or something.

When I do my bible comparison it always lists the ASV first. How do I reorganize that on my iPad so the NASB is first and all the verses compare to that version?

Text comparison tool does not honor View Settings

I suspect this is an oversight. While Android shows the complete View Settings menu, on iOS, most of the settings are hidden are disabled. They are not intended to work or not relevant.

Mobile apps, as a rule don't have exit buttons. They don't exit. You put them away until needed again. It's built in to the OS as an optimization. You can tab the back button repeatedly. Once it goes through all the history, it will "exit" the app (again, not really exited, just put away). The intended way to exit an app is to hit the Home button.

I heard apple was doing away with iPad minis. If that is the case I can see more deals coming down the pike soon. I grabbed a 128gb for $279 during black Friday at Best Buy so deals do come.

You have to type in a previously unknown phrase to see the local resources? I don't mean to be insulting, but, wow. In any case, it doesn't work. I have a half dozen resources downloaded on my phone, but when I type this in it only shows "The Lexham English Bible", which is apparently part of the core application.

Apparently, it wont be addressed until next year. Unfortunately, it's hard to use the app with this most basic requirement not working.

Yes, I do. This is repeatable. See screenshot.

Apologies. I think I misunderstood when I responded earlier, but I can reproduce the error you see and it has been mentioned a number of times by others. This isn't related downloading resources. This happens, for ex, when you navigate from one book of the bible to another and a linked commentary doesn't have that same reference. I can't remember how the old app behaved, but it has never supported Series, where it would navigate from one resource in a series to the next to follow the reference. That is another feature on the wishlist a lot of people would love to see happen.

Yes, it is awkward. But, it still doesn't work for me. Here are two screenshots, the first showing that I have ESV and the NAC downloaded to my device (proving I'm not nuts, lol). The second shows the result of using the "local:" trick.

Ahhhh, that is what I was missing. See, that is why I posted the screenshot, so you could gently point out that I was nuts.

I didn't realize when you selected a book, the default behavior was to stream the book, instead of downloading it. No wonder there were pauses while scrolling. And now I understand why Randy asked me about my wifi in response to this, which I couldn't figure out. It all makes sense now.

I'm loving the update so far, but I do have one usability issue/question. Is it possible to open a non library item on the bottom in split view? For example, I'd like to have my notes open in the bottom window with a Bible in the top window. I can run a split view with notes on top and a Bible on bottom, but I haven't figured out a way to do the reverse. It seems that split view only allows you to select something from your library, but not for documents.

Tabs are working great and are very responsive. Thanks for the great update!

I'm on Android. I'm using a Galaxy Note 8 and Kindle Fire HDX 8.9. My guess is this is a bug since the functionality is there. It just doesn't behave correctly.

This works for me when opening a note document on Android.

Open the Tab Browser.
On one of the tabs, tap the Split View icon.
In the new View at the bottom of the tab, tap on "Open from the library".
In the Library swipe or tap on the Documents icon at the top.
Select one of your documents or create a new one.

It will take you back to the Tab Browser showing the split view with the notes open. Tap on that tab to exit the browser to that tab.

This works for me when opening a note document on Android.

Great job on the update. Very impressive.

The program does seem to crash more now but it may be due to a split screen. I have now deleted split screen and still find slow responses and times when I have to restart the app. Perhaps too many tabs?

Would love to see personal books brought into the app. Are there any plans to do this?

Overall, however, this is a really impressive update. Thanks for this effort

This is a bug. I dusted off my Nexus 7 and powered it up to test (not easy as the charge port does not work well... been plugged up for hours with on 20% & 19 hrs remaining til full charge). While it works as expected on my iPad and Android phone, on an Android tablet it behaves as Michael described: It always opens a new tab. This bug only seems to affect Android tablets.
