personal books
I have written two books and created another personal one that I imported into Logos. I am finding now that the books don't show up in my library or results in the passage guide. When I went to Tools, personal books, it says that the file is not found. It used to be there. I have had results in the passage guide before.
So what could have happened?

I'm not sure how long ago I did this or what updates or kind of updates you have in mind. I have Windows 7 and my computer is supposed to install the latest version soon. He also wants to install a solid state HD and more memory.
So do I need to just reinstall these personal books?

For clarification: the metadata for pb’s automatically sync, but the book itself does not. If this personal book was compiled on another computer, or if the same computer after being reformatted, you would get the results you describe.

OK, I got a new computer since I installed the books. But why would they disappear from my library? Now I tried to reinstall them and I get error messages. It can't open the file, and I should close any other applications that may have the file open and try again.

Using precise language may be helpful here. You don’t “install“ personal books, you “compile” them from .docx files. Is that what you mean by “installed?” You mentioned getting a new computer. Is THIS the new computer, or are you having troubles on the original computer?
If you are trying to recompile the personal books, you will need the original.docx files.
Screenshots might be helpful in diagnosing your issue.

I had the docx files on the old computer. All my files were copied onto the new computer, which I am using now. What more can I do?

I don't know why, but that's how it works (happened to me, too). Maybe Logos changed from syncing the full metadata to a more limited model at one point.

If you did not carry over the PB source, i.e. have the *.docx files at exactly the same folder path, the PB compiler can't simply recompile them. You either need to
- put the PB sources into the exact folder path location they were on your old PC
- delete the old file links in the PB tool and add new ones to locations where the PB sources are now present at your PC
Both requires access to the PB sources on your current machine
Alternatively, you might be able to fire up your old PC and potentially even Logos on that PC, In the latter case you can upload the PBs from the PB tool. They will sync to Logos' servers in the cloud and automatically sync down to your current machine. This is the most hassle-free method (it won't work for very very large PBs, though). Or you may be able to secure the compiled PBs from within the Logos folder structure, put them onto a location you can access on your current machine, such as an USB thumbdrive, and use the scan command to import them into your current Logos installation.

To build the books again, you will need the original .docx file(s). If you are sure you copied the compiled files, you will need to use the “scan” method to bring them back into Logos. I’ll see if I can find a thread or wiki about it.

I deleted the old file links, and Logos actually tried to build the file. Then there were 5 errors and 399 warnings.

I have a personal book that I created on Logos. Basically it's an index file. I deleted the old link and it built the book successfully

I have another PB, a shorter one. I deleted the old link in Logos and tried again, and it worked. The other book, still 2 errors and 399 warnings

Did the book compile i.e. is it in your Library? Otherwise what are the two errors (you get a chance to look at the PB log when it is compiled) - just paste the two errors in your response.

the one PB shows up in the library. This is a book that was published by a publisher. The other personal book was one I created with Logos. It says it was built successfully, but I don't see it in my library

Larry,
the Logos PB compiler was changed recently in how it treats "empty" paragraphs. This "error" was disregarded in the past and will now prevent successful builds. For all PBs that compiled in the past and don't now I would suggest to run a replace all in Word, change all "^p" to " ^p" (paragraph mark to space paragraph mark, without the quotes), this should solve the issue.

I went there, did what I could figure out what they meant, and it still didn't work. Actually the only reason I even looked into the issue in the first place is I needed the personal book I created in Logos. That seems to be working, so I'm going to put the rest of this on hold. I've spent way too much time on it, and I can live without it. The other PB I really want.

I think I did it right. Still didn't work.
The most important thing was the personal book that I created in Logos. It says the build was successful but when I tried a search for something in the book, it didn't show up.

The indexer will need to finish after the build for searches to work.

1. a screen shot of the unsuccessful Search
2. if possible upload the docx file so we can test it.

I'm sorry, Dave. When I looked at the stuff you gave me on screen shots, my mind just glazed over. [I'm not functioning at 100% right now. Cancer and heart issues.]
Then you mentioned uploading the file. I don't see where I can do that.
I just did another search in my personal book. Nothing showed up. The book shows up in my library. I did a basic search. search all text in personal book for: aorist.
My personal book is essentially an index, converting a file drawer of 3x5 cards to my computer so I will use it more.

Use the paper clip icon (near the Smiley face) when you respond. Then we can see why your search failed.

It compiled OK as a Monograph, and a Basic Search found aorist, but you won't find it if Match Case is ticked in the Search menu because it is Aorist in the document.

I just call Logos, and I didn't find them particularly helpful. He said if I wanted to search the personal book, I should open the book and do an inline search. Period.
As for my other book that used to be in my program, he said nothing changed with the program. He said my problem is empty headers and empty footnotes in the book. Go through the book and eliminate them. That book is not as important to me as this one.
Now I know how I have to use it, I have to decide if I want to keep working on it.

OK, I found a graphics editor thing. Hit alt-printscreen, and nothing happened. Went to graphics screen and there was nothing to paste.
