Please make 4.0 stop indexing every time I open Logos

It happens every time I open Logos 4.0a. Runs for 2 hours, seems to finish. Then starts all over again. Incredibly frustrating, time consuming, and makes my computer almost useless by hogging resources.  What can I do to stop this? Thanks.

Jeff, I am sorry for the repeating indexing you get (if that's your problem).

First, you should be able to click on the indexer icon and stop it for 4 hours. You can let it continue any time you want.

Secondly, it is not normal if you have a repeated indexing going on again and again. You should search the forum, I think there is a lot of information on that problem here. If you do not find any answer to your problem, call Customer Service.

It sounds like it might be running out of disk space or encountering some other sort of error.

If you turn on logging before it starts indexing again (http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging) , you can post the logs on the forum (http://wiki.logos.com/Uploading_Logs), and it will be easier for people here to help.

I did the CTRL-Start thing and created a log file. I've attached it below. Thanks again for your quick response.

    It's 69kb.

That's the log file for the main Logos 4 program, not the indexer.

It's the file called "Logos4Indexer.log" that will have the error in it, and you'll have to wait until the indexer "finishes" for any error to show up probably.

I'd also turn on logging permanently.  It's easier than remembering to always use the CTRL key.

How do I create the INDEX LOG file?  It is not in that directory with the first file.

By the way, it just finished indexing again. The last few times it has done this, I get an error message from Windows that says, "LOGOS BIBLE SOFTWARE 4 INDEXER HAS STOPPED WORKING."

In the details section, it says this:

    Description:
      Stopped working

    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name:    CLR20r3
      Problem Signature 01:    logos4indexer.exe
      Problem Signature 02:    4.1.3.5180
      Problem Signature 03:    4b4ba7b1
      Problem Signature 04:    Libronix.DigitalLibrary
      Problem Signature 05:    4.1.3.5180
      Problem Signature 06:    4b4ba703
      Problem Signature 07:    d52
      Problem Signature 08:    a
      Problem Signature 09:    System.InvalidOperationException
      OS Version:    6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.6

I don't know if that will help of not.

After it stopped indexing, I did another CTRL-START to try to create INDEXLOG but no dice. However, it is now indexing once again.

The file we need is Logos4Indexer.log. It will be in the same folder as the other log file.

To stop repeated indexing you can try:-

    Delete C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\<random>\UpdateManager\updates.db and

                 C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\<random>\DownloadManager\DownloadManager.db + other files/sub-folders

    I'm
not sure, but I think you might need to follow the steps to turn on
logging permanently to get the indexer to log.  Also, indexing needs to
be switched on BEFORE the indexer starts up--it won't switch on logging
    in the middle of running.

OK, turned on indexing permanently. Started Logos 4 again and it indexed again. Here is the file:

    8838.Logos4Indexer.log

It's almost completed indexing when it comes up with a strange error:-

Error    Program    Unhandled exception: System.InvalidOperationException: This work should not be cancelled directly.

I would try to rebuild the index by deleting the folder F:\Logos\Logos4\Data\ur3bxrqf.54p\LibraryIndex\ and restarting L4.

This error can occur when another program has the index open (e.g., Logos 4 running a query, or a virus scanner or desktop search engine accessing the file). We plan to address this error in 4.0b.

I am having the same problem. It has gotten so bad that my mac seems useless. I am considering removing Logos completely. Can anyone give me some advice on this issue before I remove Logos?

    Thanks!

Hi Gary - and welcome to the forums.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

However, this thread is over two and a half years old and relates to an earlier version of Logos (and on Windows instead of Mac).

I suggest you start a new thread in the Mac forum - http://community.logos.com/forums/75.aspx - and explain the problems you are having there.
