Clause Search Question

I'm trying to evaluate a statement by Gerdhardsson, "when God is the subject of the verb πειράζω in the LXX, the object is always a member of the covenant community." That is, God never πειράζει the heathen. So, I am using a clause search (OSX 10.13.3, Logos 7.13.0015) on the OT Sweet's LXX looking for  subject:GOD verb-lemma:πειράζω . I do get three hits (Wis 3:5, Jdt 8:25, 26), but not the obvious Gen 22:1 (ὁ θεὸς ἐπείραζεν τὸν Ἀβραάμ). What is wrong with my search, why won't it pick up Gen 22:1?

    Hi Clint.

    Only the deuterocanonical/apocryphal material is supported by clause search at this point. No idea if that will change in the future (the remainder of the LXX is not actively being worked on at present).

    Wow does that let the air out of my tires! Any suggestions out there on how I can go about this search using the tagging we have in the LXX or the Hebrew text?

    Clint, 

    Rather than parrot the work of others, I will refer you to a recent thread where a similar question was asked and answered by two of the most conversant in this arena. Constructing the Clause search based on their instructions is easy to follow and I'm sure you can adapt their discussion to your particular question. If after viewing this you find that you have further questions I would be happy to attempt to answer them as able.

    Since Greek subject is often nominative case, a morph search idea is:

    root:θεος@NN WITHIN 7 WORDS lemma:πειράζω

    Modified search to:

    root:θεος WITHIN 7 WORDS lemma:πειράζω

    to include all cases found a relative pronoun subject in Judith 8:25 along with covenant community putting God to the test
