Please bring back previous app interface

The new interface is awful. Hit the back key? Exit the app and have to reload it. Want to go back to what you just looked at it? You have to open the panel at the bottom and hope it will stop sliding back-and-forth so you can choose the one you want, IF you can find it.  Hit the go to my main bible button and you get to watch  a stupid animation instead of just opening the requested resource.

At least make it an option for those who dislike the new one.  I'm about ready to ditch logos and look for something else.

Welcome! Sorry you are having troubles. [:s]

Please bring back previous app interface

It is unlikely that FL will do that! However, let's figure out what issues you have. NOTE: I am on beta, so when I attempt to trouble shoot, it may be that a fix is "in the works" rather than on stable channel.

    Hit the back key?

You mean the back button? I can both tap it or hold it down to bring up history. What is the issue you are having?

Exit the app and have to reload it.

    What is the issue?

Hit the go to my main bible button and you get to watch  a stupid animation instead of just opening the requested resource.

The animation should open your bible. Does it not? Unless I am misunderstanding your issue, this is much simpler than the old method!

Hi.  Thanks for the quick reply.  Sorry my post was confusing.

If I hit the back button (on android), the app exits.  It does not go to the previous resource.  I just tried it again.  Apparently, it will go to the previous reference within a given resource, until there are no more previous references, then it exits the app.  Previously, if for example, I started with NASB, went to NIV, then NLT, then back to NASB, to the exegetical guide, and then to CDWGTHB, the back key would go from CDWGTHB to the exegetical guide, to NASB, NLT, NIV, NASB (basically retrace my steps).   There is no way to do that now as far as I can tell.  For example, now if I go from NASB to Exegetical guide, to CDWGTHB, hitting back MIGHT take me to the exegetical guide or it MIGHT exit the app.  If it takes me to the exegetical guide, hitting back there usually closes the app.

When I hit the main bible button -- yes, it opens my bible, but what's the point of watching it open the list of used resources, slide over to my main bible, and then open that?  Why not just open the resource?  Can I disable the animation?

long-pressing brings up a history that looks like the old behavior -- why doesn't just clicking back follow the full history?

    thx

Thanks for the quick reply.  Sorry my post was confusing.

    My pleasure, thanks for clarifying!

If I hit the back button (on android), the app exits.  It does not go to the previous resource.  I just tried it again.  Apparently, it will go to the previous reference within a given resource, until there are no more previous references, then it exits the app.

That is good to know. It is not crashing on iOS. The back button, however, does end with the single resource, because it is a "tab." Any other resource would be in a different "tab" (unless, I guess, it is a "split tab).

If I press and HOLD the "back" button, a full history appears and I can maneuver to any past resource. That would be similar to previous behavior.

what's the point of watching it open the list of used resources, slide over to my main bible, and then open that?  Why not just open the resource?

The animation, presumably, is to "show" you what is happening. I can't imagine the old way would be quicker! On my iPhone, it took ~1.5 seconds. On the old system, you would have to navigate to the library, find your book, and open it. I can't imagine it being much quicker than 5-10 seconds.

why doesn't just clicking back follow the full history?

I think I answered this above, but to answer directly: The new system is "tabbed" browsing, which allows you to have multiple resource "tabs" open at once. The ability to move back and forth is VERY quick and simple... but more so if you are using scrolling mode rather than paged mode. If you are using scrolling, you can move between resources simply by swiping left and/or right. Have you tried that?

Not much to say.  Trust me, on Android the old way was faster.  You could sort resources by most recent, so if you wanted a different resource it was usually at the top of the list.  The tabs are awful.  If I go to a resource, there is yet another tab open in the bottom--so it quickly gets cluttered with stuff I don't reference often.  If I try to select a tab,  the tabs keep sliding to a different resource than the one I want and it takes 3-6 tries to get it to stop on the one I want.

The ability to move back and forth was MUCH SIMPLER and QUICKER in the old version.  If I could get the back button to go through the entire history without having to press and hold, that would probably help tremendously.  As it is now, it takes 2-3 clicks MORE to get the preivious behavior.

    thx for your replies

I agree with Jo!!! I do understand what JT is saying. I liked the old method of opening up to the library...I could do a search and have a list of books that I wanted to use. When done I could hit "back" and go to the library and my selected books were still there until I cleared the search box. I also do not like the feature where the program now opens up to a Bible. I will try some of JT's suggestions.....but in being helpful...Faithlife, to me, has made it more complicated.

I held on to my 'old' version by necessity (older ipad) and by intent (not updating on my newer device).

I can see the logic of the new one. And its design is similar to my Swiss-Army-Knife browser. But when it's time for quiet reading/study, I reach for the old version. Just as I have a 5-figures sewing machine group, I reach for the 70 year old manual that had to be good in just the right ways.

Although I also have an older iPad that can't run the new app, I stopped reading on it for one reason. When the new notes system is live, I'm guessing that new highlights made on the old app wouldn't sync or appear in the newer apps.

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!
