It seems like resources used to open however I last closed it, but now I have to manually switch to scroll mode every time.
Is there a way to set a default or something?
I don't believe there's a global default. It should remember per resource. Do you have multiple instances of the resource open by chance? Have you tried saving your layout prior to exiting? What version of the L7 are you running and on what platform?
One possible, but far-fetched, work-around (if it continues to be a problem, and until it gets addressed for you) is to use the multi-resource view (assuming your in a Bible or commentary). Using multi-resource should force scrolling view since columns are unavailable. The trick would be to select a resource that'll (almost) never show up, such as a periodical or magazine that discusses only a handful of passages. I do believe the resource needs to be "versified" in order to be available.

I had the same problem with ESV Bible until I saw this thread. Thanks for everyone's observations that helped me with this.
Original problem was that when I closed Logos app, and reopened, it reverted to page scrolling. I had two ESV Bible tabs open - one "plain" and one with multi-resource.
So I changed both ESV tabs to single resource and scroll (no columns), and also updated the layout that opens with the app. Then when I closed Logos and reopened it, they still scrolled.
Not sure all the setting interactions and their effects, but it does seem that it is tied to one or more of the following...
1. Multiple tabs open for the same resource and with different scroll settings (e.g. using multi-resource in one tab)
2. The default layout that is loaded automatically upon startup
While it's not a full answer, it gave me a workaround that might also help someone else.
I didn't quite follow your post, but for clarification: "scroll" mode = "no columns." If you set a resource to columns "none," yes, it will scroll. If you want to "turn pages," you must set your columns to 1 or more.
Yep, thanks... got that. In fact, I needed customer service to explain that to me a while back because I was stumped about it.
What I'm trying to say here is that on desktop application restart, the setting for a resource can revert to non-scroll mode as a result of the app startup layout setting and/or a second tab with multi-resource settings turned on.
(But I didn't do enough testing to figure out which elements matter and exactly how.)
