How to download all content onto IPad
Does anyone know how to download all their content from their library onto their iPad? I just got a new one, and I’m in the process of getting rid of my MacBook.

If by "content" you mean "books," you scroll slightly upwards and choose "download all." You should, however, not do so. The mobile app isn't designed for that usage and many problems can and will occur by doing so. The only scenario in which I feel good about recommending doing so is for users who live without internet for weeks/months at a time.

For clarification: The mobile apps are called "reader apps." Although there is some similar functionality, many features are desktop only. The mobile app is intended to supplement the desktop app, not to replace it.

Hi John,
To my knowledge, you may need to download each product you own to view them offline. If you find an alternative method, downloading all at the same time, do let me know.
This is what I did.
1. Go to your library that shows all the product you own.
2. Click the small "i" at the right hand bottom of the product you own. It will lead you to "book info."
3. Click the "download" button and it will download that product onto your iPad. You can use the same process to remove it.
Cheers

Hi HS,
As JT mentioned above it is possible to download multiple books in one go:
- Filter the library so it shows only the books you want to download, or leave the filter blank if you want to download everything.
- Scroll the library beyond the first book.
- Tap the “Download all” button that appears at the top of the library.

Mark already responded to you, but again, my warning: You will have heartache and headache if you download all of your resources... so don't do it!
That rather depends on how many resources you have. A couple of hundred is fine, a couple of thousand is not. Given that HS was intending to download them one at a time, I assumed (s)he didn’t have so many that it would cause problems.

JT, do you think that the new iPad pro with 256 Gig memory and upgraded processor would still have trouble with handling 9,000 resources? Apple claims it is able to replace a laptop, and my laptop has no problem with all my resources.
Is the problem with the App itself?

i keep about 1500 on my iPad Verbum app and have no problems. That said you hit the nail on the head. The App itself is not up to it. And while improvements are always coming I am not sure we will ever see any super improvements as it has been hinted at more than one the future is the web app. Which of course as I understand it will always require the net. But then again most of the more powerful iOS app functions still require being online although basic hebrew/Greek look up offline is nearing release.

I have 6000 resources downloaded on my iPad and I’ve experienced ZERO problems.

Just because you haven't had any problems, doesn't mean that you won't. I am not going to badger you about it, but I strongly recommend others against doing so. FL has said the same thing.

It is partially the app, but to place all the blame there is unfair to FL. The nature of mobile devices is different in character and function than a "computer." The nature of iOS is also different than macOS. Additionally, the app has to be built for the iPhone as well as the iPad.

Except space, what problem could it do, or what issue I would have to expect?

First of all, the best fix for many issues is to do a complete reinstall. That is severely complicated when you have downloaded all of your resources. Some of the issues: 1) I have had iOS fail to release storage space after deleting an app. This is rare, but has happened to me more than once. When you have an app that took up many, many gigabytes, the only fix was to reinstall the OS. 2) Reinstalling the app often begins an automatic redownloading of all previously downloaded resources. That may prevent you from using the app when you need to use it. If the downloading process gets stalled, corruption can occur (either to the app or to the resource(s)). Again, another hassle.
Another issue: the mobile app has a harder time keeping resources "up to date." This can cause the loss of highlighting. It can also lead to incorrect results with the "look up" feature.
I have experienced all of these issues on multiple occasions.

Thank you and it is prudent to give the fair warning that it is not the most advisable thing to do. However as things progress quicker and more people think of the idea of having no computer but only a tablet (I know several of those) FL stands to loose out on customers who may want a better Tablet experience if the decide to want to do more things offline. Indeed in my Olivetree app I have a number of the net required study features you find in FL’s apps with everything right there on your phone or tablet with all your resources installed locally. I suspect resource book count my OT must be well over 1000. And while it is a pretty basic desktop app it in an offline mode is far more impressive than FL... In a connected world the study features are more robust in FL albeit annoyingly slow.

I can't speak to ios issues. But the automatic answer from FL when a user has a problem, is re-install. My impression is FL doesn't try for bullet-proof, and the mobile to server is loosy-goosy. Ergo, smaller downloads.
My Accordance library is almost 6g's downloaded. So, maybe I'm walking on ice. I think 10 of my apps are a gig plus, and pretty bullet-proof, after many years.

I have used the Accordance app since it's release only time a reinstall that I needed was when I upgraded to my new phone and nothing was working properly. The nice thing about the Accordance iOS apps is no need to download items as you can sync over wifi from your computer so it is much faster.

I have downloaded some of my books onto my iPad. It's been one of those things where I have only done so when I want to have that resource to read while off-line. I haven't really kept track of numbers of books, but let's say I want to actually see how many are downloaded. How could I determine that?

If you enter "local:" into the Library filter field it will just show those resources that are downloaded to the device

quite easily... turn on airplane mode then open the library tab in the app. The resource count at the top will be the number you have downloaded.

Thanks. More than I thought - 82. I think I need to look through and see which ones I could remove. They built up a little faster than I thought.

There is probably nothing wrong with 82. When I talk about downloading "all" of your books, I am thinking of users with many many hundreds or thousands. Of course, I have a few downloaded books which do cause some problems (ahem. ESV Study Bible), but I can live with that. Much easier to track down the problem when it is just a few.

I know I have far more that JT thinks is prudent but there have been numerous times that I have done study while having no net access so having my primary commentary resources is what I need (probably a few more than I need since a couple sets fall on fringes of daily use) but I have only a couple times over the long life of the FL iOS apps had the need to redownload. I also have known of several people to complain about other iOS apps that they want a cloud based option. so there is no pleasing everyone for sure.

Hi SMS
Downloading all resources is still possible (it wasn’t for a while) but the mechanism has changed.
See https://community.logos.com/forums/p/184500/1062641.aspx#1062641 for how to do this.

Guess God just takes care of me. I have alway downloaded all of mu books to iPad Pro. At first I did have trouble with the mobil app, about 5 or 6 years ago. Since then I have not had trouble and I have over 22 tlhousand books. At first I downloaded one at a time but sometimes I was able to download all new books and any book not downloaded in one pass whih took about a week. There were about 25 books that would not download, Now I am gettering ready to download a lot of new books I just got and hope it still works the same way. It has been several months I have not used the iPad because of eye problems. I was declared legally blind in July and have problems with any printed material. I can't even use note anymore when I teach a Bible Class. Logos did tell me several times when I first started downloading all the library that I should download only those I would be using but that didn't help me back then and at first I did have problems and several times I had to start over and reinstall the mobile app. I am now finding it is easier for me now to use Logos on the iPad that on the computer. I just upgraded to Logos 10 with all features.
