Changing default lookup resource

Here's a screenshot from church yesterday. I was using Logos on my iPad.

Apparently some changes have been made in how the press-hold feature works. I no longer have to choose "Look Up"...that happens automatically, and I think that is wonderful.

However, as you can see in the screenshot, the resource I get is BDAG. I assume this has something to do with prioritization in my desktop app (but I'm not positive).

Here's the thing: BDAG is obviously not ideal for the resource that appears in the mobile app for Lookup. I'd like one of my quicker, less-comprehensive resources to appear there. But I don't want to move BDAG out of its prioritized slot on my desktop app. BDAG is an excellent resource, but is a 155mm howitzer when all I need is to swat a fly.

Is there a simple solution?

I'd like to know if it's possible to change the default resource as well.

By the way, lookup is noticeably faster by about 1-3 seconds when I'm offline (airplane mode without wifi). Is this something you experience as well?

At least in the Beta—Download the lexicon you wish to display, but not BDAG. It just worked for me with M-M while online through my local wi-fi network. However, it did not work with Barclay-Newman's GNT Insert.

M-M is probably not the best choice for this, as it does not cover every work and gives results from the papyri. I only used it for testing purposes.

Same. My problem, though, is that HALOT glosses in German and I cant figure out how to make it English!!

Yes, on my computer program I have the language set to English. I cannot find on the mobile app (iOS) how to change it.

In BHS, I have the "Text der gedruckten BHS" turned off in Interlinear Lines. I don't see any language options in HALOT.

I also have both the BHS and HALOT downloaded to my device.

The app likely uses the app language settings. On an iPad that is under General/Language and Region. I have LHB rather than BHS—will try that resource and report back.

Hey Doc! At this time, prioritization for the automatic Look Up on iOS is managed via your Prioritization list on the Logos Desktop software. A quick refresher of how Resource Priority works can be found here. As for having specific lexicons for specific resources, I'm sad to say there's not an option for that at this time.

To help isolate troubles, it's best to start a new thread with a description of the trouble you're seeing, and steps to recreate the occurrence. Feel free to start a new thread, and link it here once done so we can follow up. There's also a chance it may be due to resource priority as well, so feel free to check out my reply above and see if it applies.

Thanks, Brandyn, for verifying the prioritization issue.

However, my second question wasn't about a specific lexicon for a specific resource, but rather a specific lexicon for a specific *platform*.

Might that be a possibility down the road? As I explained in my OP, the ideal lexicon for the right-click context menu on the desktop app is often NOT the ideal lexicon for a mobile app.

I suspect Jack's work-around may be a short-term solution, but a more permanent solution would be desirable and a nice feature of the mobile app.

I was having the same problem, a lexical tool would appear in the pop up that was not of great value to me. I “removed” the download and immediately the lexicon I preferred came back.

Jack, I got around to trying this out on Sunday. It was intermittent. Seems if I had looked up a word in the past, it still opened in BDAG. But if the word lookup was new, it went to the lexicon I had downloaded (happened to be Mounce's OT/NT Words).

This is a good fill-in for the tool, for now. Thanks for the suggestion.

Seems if I had looked up a word in the past, it still opened in BDAG.

Interesting, don't think I have seen that with HALOT/CHALOT, but I will watch for that in the future.

Hi Abbie,

I have the same problem. I have just discovered that when I have BHS downloaded I have the issue, but if I remove it from the device (i.e. use Wifi to access it from my library) then the gloss changes back to English. So my advice is to not have BHS downloaded, that should solve the problem. I have just reported the problem to Logos, so hopefully they can sort it out soon so we can have BHS downloaded and still get English glosses.

I think your problem is that there are two iterations of the BHS SESB 2.0 floating around. I think if you download the 2017 iteration to your Apple device you will find the English glosses.
