Regarding the timeline feature. It seems to me that there is room for improvement.
I am sure there are many users of Logos who would love to contribute to improving the timeline feature. Timelines and chronologies are critically important in keeping events in their proper context and in documenting cause and effect, etc.
I believe the history of the people of Israel and the land of Israel is crucially important to Christian understanding. The history of the Jewish people and the Holy Land since the destruction of the temple should re far more thorough. I'll give some examples.
1) I only see the "early" and "earliest possible" date for Jesus' birth-where is the other date or dates?
2) The destruction of the temple in 70 AD is within the Biblical period and is clearly the most important event in that year--its not in the timeline.
3) The congestion of Israel in 736 and Jerusalem in 738 were events of extraordinary importance in history and history of the church.
4) Disconnection between linked events: in 711 the Moors conquer Spain but in 1492, when the Reconquista is complete, I only see: that the Jewish people had been expelled over years from Europe but no reference to the defeat and expulsion of the Muslims.
5) A category called Israel should be included in the drop-down categories or you could have more granular sorting with many more options, Israel being one of them. The category of "general interest" is a mistake. More categories will improve. Being able to cross categorize is important.
6) The timeline is not organized from top to bottom in any way I can discern--the events are not categorized in any horizontal structure in which, if one wanted to follow happenings in Israel, the Catholic Church, the Reformation, etc. they may be placed at the top, then the bottom, then the middle without (I think) reason. If there is an organizational structure, is there a place to reference this?
7) The timeline ends with one date in 2012. So much is happening in the modern world that has impact on the body of believers. Islam, Israel, Supreme Court decisions, publishing of books that are having impact on the body of believers.
8) Consistency: I see the birth of Jimmy Swaggart but not of William Lane Craig or Ravi Zacharias (whose apologetics have had tremendous impact).
This has probably been brought up before--but I couldn't find it. If Logos can't devote the resources to improving the timeline, is there a way for users to contribute? It could start as a project with suggestions for particular events categorized by theme and country. This phase of the project would take time and this would allow Logos to focus some resources on adding functionality or at least better categorization.
