Hi,
I re-formatted my computer and only installed Logos 4. I now have new resources to download and unlock but it seems that it needs Logos 3 to do that.
How do I go about doing this without installing Logos 3?
Pieter.

Did you synchronize your licenses in L3? If so, L4 should load resources without L3 being present.
Why do you think you need L3? Please explain your purchases.
If L4 is fully working your new resources should download automatically if you got them thru Logos (basically you need to restart L4, perhaps try Update Now in the Command Box - similar instructions should have been displayed once you completed the purchase process).

This is confusing a number of people. When you see something encouraging you to download and unlock this is only for those who are using Logos 3. Logos delivers resources to its 4.0 users by automatic download. You can ignore the download and unlock instructions in your case. As long as Logos knows you have purchased the resource it has your license on its computer. When you open Logos 4 it synchronizes with that computer. Usually downloading of your new resources will start automatically. If for some reason you are not seeing this, type 'Update Now' in the Command Bar and give Logos some time to check its files against yours and discover what resources you are missing and start to download them.

Mark, I know you know this, but for others interested in this topic. The one major exception to the above paragraph is a cd-based new purchase. There is currently no way apart from Logos 3 (or a call to customer service) to register a cd-based product to your account.
But once the license has been attributed to your account, never again will you need that CD. From now on, on any and all computers on which you install Logos4, all of your resources will automatically be downloaded.
Right. The difference here is the 'download and unlock' indication which comes when we specify download only. I'm not sure why Logos doesn't clarify this a bit more so Logos 4 only people aren't misled by email notifications of new resources being ready (which I assume is the issue here). You are right about the confusion when a CD arrives. That is a second issue lots of people have been puzzled about. We could add to that the group of people puzzled about how to get their 4.0 resources into 3.0.
I agree, Mark. I have spent a bunch of "tech support" time with quite a few people trying to teach them this.
Logos needs to do two things
Allow L4 to install resources from cds without L3
I like this. I wonder if they can do it??
I was just reading this thread and wanted to ask a question. Yesterday, I had some files to download and unlock in L4. I restarted L4 and typed update now in the command line and it said no update available but I remember something about update resources instead. I tried that and it worked.
I thought it strange and am now asking why it worked and update now did not...
Here's what's been posted on the wiki about these commands:
I think that Update Resources is actually the right command when you have new resources available, since it checks your license file which would have changed. Update Now will look for anything that's been released since your last update. That would catch program and resource updates, but not resources you just got a license for.
So I will recommend Update Resources in the future as the right command to execute when trying to download new resources.
Here's what's been posted on the wiki about these commands: Update Update Now (formerly Autoupdate Now) Incremental update. Checks what has been updated on the server against your last update. Update Resources Full update. Performs an intensive and time consuming – though generally unnecessary – check against your licenses, the books on your computer and the server to ensure that you have everything. I read the "though generally unnecessary" to mean that in normal circumstances (even when buying new resources, which is a normal circumstance) you should never need to run Update Resources. While it will of course work, it seems to be overkill. It goes through and checks every single resource in your resources folder against your licenses and what is on the server to be sure you have the correct versions of everything. If you were basically all in sync until buying a new resource, there is no need to wait through this entire process. Update Now has always worked for me when I've bought a new resource.

William, I think what you might have been experiencing was merely the delay that sometimes happens between when you purchase and when the files are available. Several people have said they have received notice that a pre-pub they ordered has shipped, but it doesn't come into their library right away, even when typeing "Update Now" but if they wait some time and try again, it works. If it was a pre-pub, then Logos needs to process everyone's credit cards (Melissa or someone posted about that recently on another thread), so not everyone will get their new resources simultaneously, and some might have to wait a while.
Since "Update Resources" takes longer than "Update Now" it might have just been a fluke that this worked for you when "Update Now" hadn't.
Rosie-
After I have loaded a license into my library using L3 and then syncing, I have never gotten Update Now to work to start the download. I have always gotten Update Resources to work (now I've only done this about 3 times, maybe 4, so I don't have a whole lot of samples to judge from). Maybe a fluke. But That's why I always recommend on the forums for people to use Update Resources.
I think Logos could tell us. The issue is 'incremental' which sounds like 'updates to what you already have' not 'new stuff'. Maybe some get Update Now to work on new purchases. I believe I have gone the Update Resources route each time. Would be glad to get a definitive word from Logos on which should work in the new resources situation.
Melissa? Bradley? George?

I've actually never run the "update resources" command and have always (eventually) gotten all my downloads (and there have been quite a number of them since L4 shipped). Sometimes it's happened through restarting Logos two or three times, sometimes after a day of waiting and rebooting my computer. But I never thought "update resources" was what I needed, so I never tried it, and I'm convinced it isn't necessary. Though if it's faster than what I've been doing (waiting a day, etc.), and if it works every time, then I'm all for it.
Rosie,
Yes it was a pre-pub release but I had received that processed email the day before.
Hmm, OK. I guess it must have been just one of those occasional hiccups on the server. In any event, I'm glad you've got the resource now.
Bradley contributed in this thread http://community.logos.com/forums/p/4668/37520.aspx
Not that I'm a frequent buyer of resources but I've never had to use either command - they announced themselves (Auto Download = No) within a few hours of confirming the order with Sales. I always recommend Update Now for resources and it should not be necessary to restart L4. If it comes to using Update Resources and it fails then wait a bit longer or check that the BITS service has not been disabled! At the worst contact Customer Support as there could be a problem with the licence server or download server.
I bought Logos 4 (Bible Study) and opted for the download method. This is my first time as a Logos Bible Study software user. I was confused about the "unlocking" information also and after reading on these forums I realized that it was not necessary in my case.
However, I cannot download my resources. I've run the installer, logged into with my credentials and it just sits there. I have no indication of what is going on. I never saw a screen indicating "Downloading Resources..." status like say "10% of x GB..." I thought it was maybe doing it in the background but I don't think that is happening either since I left it overnight and it seems to be the same place when I purchased it last night, it's like working in an empty shell. I uninstalled and tried to re-install and now when I open Logos 4, the home page loads but not the pictures which had loaded the first time.
I'm running Windows 7 and an icon did flash for like 2 seconds saying "phase 1 of 3" and then it changed to this and disappears:
I think why my indexing notice disappears along with the icon is that there is nothing to index? Are the files not immediately available after purchase? What am I doing wrong? This is very confusing...
Adrian, If you bring up the Library (click the Book icon in the upper left corner next to the Home icon, or press Ctrl+L) does it show absolutely no resources?
Indexing is supposed to take a couple of hours or more, so if the popup saying it's "indexing" is disappearing after 2 seconds, then yes it does sound like you haven't got any resources to index. Unless it all happened for you overnight without your being aware of it.
Try typing "update resources" in the Command box at the top of Logos. This will run a full scan of all the resources on your hard disk and compare them against what resources you are entitled to (based on your licenses on the server) and make sure you have the latest versions of everything. It should fix the problem. If not, get back to us here.
When I bring up the library it's empty and has in no resources. I tried the update resources command already and again just now, it checks then it says no updates available. The only thing I can think of is that my purchase hasn't been verified as yet, and hence it's not downloading anything?
That could be possible.
Did you order it online? Can you sign in to your user account page on Logos.com and check for the purchase confirmation? There is usually a link there to click on if there's anything you need to do to enable licenses that hasn't been done already automatically (though I wasn't aware you should ever need to do that for Logos 4).
It could be a glitch on the Logos server which keeps track of your licenses, in which case you'd have to call Customer Service on Monday to get it straightened out. They should have a record of your purchase and be able to get you sorted out. The wait times have been unusually high lately, though, so be prepared with something else to do while you're waiting.
Yes I ordered it online, last night around 9 pm and I received my confirmation e-mail. I wasn't under the impression that you had to do anything manually to unlock the Logos 4 purchase.
The following message appears on my order details page:
I don't think it should apply to me since I'm a first time Logos Software user who purchased Version 4 only. I thought Libronix was the engine used in Logos 3 and it shouldn't apply to me:
Here's how to find it:
I don't have Libronix, so I can't open it to click Help | About Libronix DLS.
Now, to the bottom of the order details page is the Logos4Setup file for PC and MAC and I already used the PC one, it's just that it doesn't ever give me the "Downloading Resources" screen after logging on to Logos, it opens Logos 4 in an empty shell (no library resources).
I have already sent off an e-mail to customer service to hear what they have to say. I've never experienced anything like this and I've opted for the digital download method when purchasing software before. This is not cool at all...[:S]
I remember reading (during the install) that if you already have a customer service ID then DONT create a new one. It does give you the option to create a new one so that is what you needed to do. I don't know how to go back and create one but perhaps you can try and see if you can do it by running Setup again.
Hi John. I didn't create a new ID, I already have a logon ID which I use at Logos.com, I had a subscription to the Bible Study magazine, so I didn't create a new one. Are you saying that I should create a new ID? Is this ID a different one, specific to the software and not Logos.com generally? My order for the Bible Study magazine and the Logos 4 software appears under my orders on the logon id that I currently have.
To get back that screen again with the ID, I'd have to uninstall Logos 4 and then re-run the setup.
It's been a so long it's hard to remember but . . . Don't you need a cusomer ID in order to log on to the Logos web site and place an order?

That ID should work so you should not create a new ID. Use the one you have. If that does not work then I'm as stumped as you are
Yes John, I already had an ID setup (from my previous purchase of the Bible Study magazine subscription), so I did not need to create a new one. I purchased Logos 4 with that same ID and used that ID to also login at the screen before starting Logos 4 during the installation. However, and this is where I'm stumped, it doesn't download anything...
That's a bummer.
If you have time to kill, try reinstall again, otherwise you might have to wait till tomorrow and call. There aren't many people using the Forums today otherwise someone with a lot more experience would be able to help.
Yes it's looking that way. I already sent in an e-mail so I'll wait and see if I get a response. I was really looking forward to using it and setting it up this weekend but that's not looking possible. Thanks for your assistance.
You could activate logging (Hold down Ctrl when you click to open L4) and see if there's anything odd in the logs, ie if it's not able to connect to the licence server or something like that, could be a firewall problem...

Thanks for the Ctrl tip. Where are the logs located?
I found the log and noticed some weird things that might indicate that all is not well/right:
"2010-02-28 13:00:51.7170 13 Error WebServiceClient CommunicationException for ResourceMetadataInfo[]:"
"2010-02-28 13:00:51.7170 13 Warn ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient GetResourceMetadataInfo failed (error = "
"2010-02-28 13:00:37.8182 5 Error WebServiceClient CommunicationException for ResourceFileSet[]: System.ServiceModel.FaultException: User not linked. LogosUserId: 123456 (dummy number I put in this message, it has a 6 digit user id in the log) ~ ~Server stack trace: ~ at System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel.HandleReply(ProxyOperationRuntime operation,"
I hope to hear from customer service tomorrow.
Adrian,I'm sorry that your first introduction to Logos 4 has been disappoionting.
There have been others with install problems, both with having licenses recognized and with building (search) indexs.
You have already done well by providing dome of the logging information. I am not skilled enough to read the log information.
But it seems that the your password/license works for you -- you are able to at least get the software to partly load.
The fact that NO resources are showing may indicate an indexing mis-function.
As has been said, there are many here who are quite skilled, but probably will not show up until tomorrow. Be prepared for a long wait if you phone Customer Support.
Hopefully they will soon have you up and running.
One suggestion (if you have not done it) provide your operating system and all of the computer specs: ram amount and type, speed; ; HD size, speed, free space; ,video & whether built in or type of card, CPU type and Ghz (basically everything you can think of).
SteveF, here is my system information:
Dell Inspiron 545MT
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
8GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @2.50GHz 2.50GHz
Drive C: 636GB with 536GB free
Drive 14.9GB with 7.61GB free
Video: ATI Radeon HD 3450
Sound: Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Modem: Siemens Gigaset 204A
Antivirus/Security Programs installed: McAfee Security Center, Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3, Microsoft Security Essentials
Windows Firewall: On (exception added for Logos4.exe)
Product trying to install: Bible Study Library LE via download
While you're waiting for Customer Service, I'd try turning off McAffe and Windows Firewall in turn and see if something makes a difference, also make sure your proxy settings are right if you need them.
Also make 100% sure you're using the right email address that you're account on logos.com is linked to; if you go to http://www.logos.com/myaccount there's a bit that says Libronix Customer ID, this is the email address your licences are linked to, if you created a logos.com account some time back and changed your email address it might be different to your current one.
Finally, since you haven't done the time-consuming part of installation (downloading and indexing all the books) at this stage there's not much to lose from uninstalling in Control Panels -> Add/Remove Programs, deleting the Logos4 directory (under C:\Users\User\AppData\Local) and trying again, you may just have been unlucky...
Hi Jon,
I had already tried all of the above already and it didn't work (re: McAfee and Windows Firewall).
I only have one e-mail address with logos.com and I'm using that one, I made two purchases with it (including Logos 4). I don't have a Libronix Customer ID, what is this? I thought this had something to do with previous Logos 3 and below customers. Does a new user to Logos starting at version 4 have a Libronix ID?
It says, "If you don't yet have a Libronix Customer ID, you will need to purchase and install one of our base packages or download and install the Libronix engine (Windows or Mac). During installation you will be prompted to create a Libronix Customer ID."
However I just purchased one of the "base packages" (Logos 4, no?) and as for the bolded part above, I never got such a prompt during the Logos setup? Aren't Libronix ID's done away with from 4?
Ok, I seemed to have it sorted! I had to install the Libronix and register it. I didn't know Libronix had anything to do with Logos 4. It's now downloading the 4.65GB of resources.
I installed Libronix, registered it. Added the e-mail address to my profile. Then I uninstalled Logos 4 and re-installed it. And then it didn't skip the download part as it previously did.
So I take it that Libronix is needed for any Logos software product? I thought it was just the name of Logos 3 [:S]

That is really bizarre. I have not heard of anyone needing to install Libronix in order to get their brand new installation of Logos 4. It shouldn't happen. There are some resources that are still being shipped which are in Libronix format, and those require Libronix to unlock before L4 will recognize them. Maybe you purchased one of those in addition to your L4 base package? But if you purchased just a base package, I'm really puzzled about why you had this experience. I'm glad you got it working, but this is something Logos should be made aware of so they can address it and ensure there isn't something wrong that catches certain people under certain circumstances.
I didn't purchase anything but Logos 4 Bible Study LE. The only thing I purchased from logos.com before was a 1 year subscription of Bible Study magazine when it first came out.
I don't know why I needed to download, install, update, then register Libronix to get my Logos 4 to download the resources but that's what happened. I left it downloading at home and also when I logged into my account I now see the option to unlock and download all of the resources for the Logos 4 purchase. A lot of them have the extension lbxlls which I'm assuming is a Libronix file extension. The other resources say: No downloadable files for resource.
I'm glad it's finally downloading now, but as a new user to Logos, the Libronix part was confusing. If I needed to download that, it should have also appeared in my account/confirmation e-mail. It was by trial and error that I stumbled upon this.
Odd that this might have put you in a category of users that Logos thought needed to install Libronix first in order to get L4. I will bring this to the attention of the Logos team, and someone might be contacting you for further information to try to sort this out so others don't have to experience what you did. Sorry it was such a hassle.
Yeah Rosie, it's probably the Bible Study magazine order that put me in that category.
Thanks to all who offered assistance, it was greatly appreciated.
