Problems Indexing

I posted earlier that I had been experiencing indexing issues (under alpha 13, too). I've let this thing run for three days straight decided to turned it off in frustration. I've updated to Alpha 14 last night and it still seems to hang somewhere.

I agree. That is nuts. The only time I've seen indexing take that long, barring the early alphas, is if you run out of RAM and the machine has to swap. Even then, 100 hours seems way out of line. On my Mac Pro at work, I can index all 10,500 resources Logos has available in about 12 hours. Of course, I have 6 GB of ram and it indexes 4 books at a time.

Next time, before you cancel indexing after it's been running a while, could you send us your logs? The logs you attached in your previous post just show that the indexer was restarting, which is really not enough info to tell what's going on.

I am sorry, I've been busy this week. Here are the logs after running it last night. The indexing seems to hang after the 113 resource. 5857.Logos Logs.zip

It appears that thread 5 is "stuck" indexing LLS:1.0.71 (which is NASB95). /* Pro tip: you can enter "open LLS:1.0.71" in the command bar to see what a particular resource is in the indexer logs */

If you look in the logs, you'll notice that there is a line like the following:

03/03/2010 00:07:36 | INFO | 5 | BibleIndex | (Timed) Indexing LLS:1.0.71

But no other line referring to LLS:1.0.71... Most of the other bibles have a statement like (14.14s) Indexing <resource_id> which indicates how long resource indexing took for that resource.

Can you tell me what your /Users/<user_id>/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/<some_other_id>/ResourceManager/Resources/ folder has for the following command?

ls -l NASB95*

For example, my output is:

Try deleting that file then reopening Logos 4 and running "Update Resources" from the command bar.

It should re-download the file and reindex it.

No. From the command bar.

I just discovered that if you do this, your indexer will try to download the file every time you start up. That might be preferable to indexing all the time, but I'm not sure... I plan to look into this first thing Monday. I spent most of this week tracking down a crash in copy and paste.

I had the same frustration. I posted a question somewhere but forgot where. In any case 4 days almost to the minute it finished. I have gold package. I suspect if you have gold or higher it will be about the same or longer.

I ended up having to reinstall mac os x. It's working great now. There are no indexing issues.
