There is a reason that several employees had signs in their office saying "Don't assume" when I was an IT manager.
Late August- Early September is when Bible Schools, Seminars, Sunday Classes start, new churches launch. That’s the best time to release L8, that’s why every 2 years FL does that.
If it's released on my birthday, do I get a free copy? No, not the free version.

Except for last cycle, they haven't! Here are the release dates (as best as I can decipher):
L6 was a surprise for us, shifting to a two year cycle. L7 was a surprise for us, coming out two months earlier than thought.
Here are the release dates (as best as I can decipher): L4 - Nov 3 2009? (may have been earlier... the wiki isn't clear)

Thanks for the timeline, JT! Judging by the forum posts Logos 4 was officially released on monday November 2 2009 at 4:00 AM:

Let's introduce an 11th commandment:
You shall not assume.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of oil being burned on L7 betas.
Logos 8 will only be interesting to me if it has good, new features.
One of the features I want is More workspaces open at the same time.
Well, if you think about it I’m already an FL connect member so all I’m waiting for is the L7 to change to L8 and find out what the new lineup of based packages have to offer. So in a sense L8 is already here 😁
Honestly, I wasn't excited when L7 came out, and niether am I about L8. I almost certainly won't buy a new package and data sets are not all that helpful to me.
... I almost certainly won't buy a new package ...
I probably will. They usually rejigger the contents of the base packages and offer a sale, so for me the rollout of new versions have provided an opportunity to expand my library at an attractive discount.
You shall not add to......

Wait and see is always good advice.
Wiser advice than adding to the Word 😜 (he was probably joking, though...yeah, yeah, I believe he was 😁).
More workspaces open at the same time.

How many of you use 2 or more monitors? What size are they? It's something I'm thinking about.
I use two 22 inch monitors - and find that really useful.
I use my 15" laptop and extend my Logos desktop to a 21" monitor and a 24" smart TV. The 21" monitor sits above my laptop and the SmartTV/Monitor sit to the right of my laptop. I generally use the 21" for word processing type functions and the SmartTV has another Bible Software program and/or an extended screen from Logos.
My wife really likes me and sees my investment in Logos and computer and monitors as my "bass boat."
I'm going to guess on the release date - either July 23 or 30. The last two releases have been in a Monday, which makes sense. I'm guessing a bit earlier this time than last time since effort went into defending an "approximate" two year schedule. Any other guesses?
My guess is post summer holiday season. It makes little sense to push out a major release when many people are on vacation.
I don't have any idea, of course, when it will come out. That said, as one who works in an academic environment, I can make the case that a July or early August release would generate some interest just before school opens. Also, release before the term would give faculty a chance to formulate current recommendations for students,
3 28" 4K monitors, 1 32" smart TV to the side (football or pictures of the grandchildren), and an Amazon Echo. I'm going to use the "bass boat" line with my wife.
Wow! How many video/tuner cards and what are you driving all this with (specs)?
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 video card
It is built to handle video game graphics.
Honestly, I wasn't excited when L7 came out, and niether am I about L8.
It‘s a very ho hum non event. I don’t see the point of all this silly speculation about it. FL will do what they like when they like.

And that is how it should be.......
Running three 27” Asus PB278Q monitors. Not sure I could ever go back to one screen again.
The issue of easy v. powerful is a trade off that any company will have to deal with. I think that Logos has chosen powerful and done a decent job making easy possible, if you learn how to do it. I remember back in the day of verseion 3 (my first) I fell in love with Logos because I could type in my passage or topic and hit enter and joila -- there was a plethora of content ready to study. It was truly easy. The new home page complicated that. I kind of wish they'd go back to that earlier style of home page or make it more obvious that you can do that. I know you can still just type in a passage or topic and hit go, but it's not as clear as it was. As I remember it was a third of the home screen. May be wrong.
ON the topic of training … Every other major Bible software has free training from the company that can take you from total newb to expert. Only Logos charges for that more advanced level of training.
My desktop PC is two 27" monitors. I also have a 21" on my desk in church I use with my Macbook Air. I highly recommend at two monitors if you can do it.
I had four displays but one died. currently using two BenQ 24" displays, and a 46" Sony Bravia tv. I only used the fourth display for watching TV any way, a thing I don't really do any more (besides weather which is necessary in Florida and watchable on the bravia). Looking forward to 8!

Nick, thank you for taking the high road. I agree with you and although I don't post often - partly because of some negativity. Some folks don't understand the complexity of the software industry and the decisions to make improvements and usability to help the entry-level user as well as the high-end power users. The Logos Team does a very good job of this and that is coming from 27 years in the software industry from development to operations.
As Kevin said it used to be much clearer when you opened up Logos.
The Libronix 3 home page was resizable, sections were customisable and could be turned off and the Bible Study Starter Section was a launch pad to the software making it clear to the new user where to start. The current home page is a marketing launch pad with a hodge podge of other material for a new user until the find out they can turn off the marketing and be left with a hodge podge of random stuff. The Bible Study Starter section has been culled and moved from being a central aspect of the home page to being almost an afterthought.
You could quickly open a passage, exegetical or word study guide, or choose to open a bible and commentary or bible only as well as assess you bible reading plan.
The Bible Study Starter section has been culled and moved from being a central aspect of the home page to being almost an afterthought.
The web app has tiles which allow the user to intuitively perform many common tasks.
Perhaps that’s a prelude to the desktop’s return of offering customizable tiles to perform some of those same tasks?
The web app tiles are better than the desktop which looks and feels like a Themed Costume Party where everyone comes dressed up as something totally unrelated to the party’s theme. The reason we use the software is to study the scriptures whether it be for personal devotion / growth or to prepare a sermon, study or paper, or to dig deeper into a passage or topic we are looking at for a bible study, class or seminar. Yet all those things are not what is central to the Desktop home page. Devotional readings are mixed in with marketing blurbs and snippets of random images and snippets from our library - seriously that is a disrespect to the personal time with God the software should be encouraging us to particpate in instead of placing it along side an add for the last weeks special deal that has expired but still shows up on the home pahe till enough new ads come along to replace it.
So I hope you are right PETA.

So, you don't want to see an Assyrian man throttling an ostrich on your Home Page?
Don’t mind in passage guide, Facebook etc, if it’s relevant to the passage or topic I’m studying but on the homepage a launch pad into the scriptures should be the thing that takes primary focus.
Four ~27" monitors. Left to right: first made by LG; second an HP2509m; last two by ACER. NVIDIA GeForce GT720 video adapter.
HP 500-250t desktop. i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz. 10GB RAM. Windows 10 PRO 64-bit.
To connect all 4 monitors to the computer, one is plugged directly to the computer and the other three use individual SABRENT/DISPLAYLINK UGA-2K-195 USB adapters as shown in the picture on the right. I have had these adapters for years so they may be superseded. Try http://www.displaylink.com/products/usb-adapters to see what's what. Something similar at https://plugable.com/products/uga-165/.
If all the speculation about L8 is true, then my monitors should be dazzling! [:D]
God bless

I am inclined to disagree with this. For years, users have given great suggestions for how to improve important functionalities for user-friendliness. The most recent great example comes from the L8 Wishlist thread, which requested a search builder similar to Ebsco. I really think that the most intimidating part of learning Logos isn't learning how to use the tools in the menus, but learning the search syntax. This would go miles toward improving the ease of use without compromising power or features in any way. That said - I'm committed to avoiding the negativity I often see in these forums. While I see room for improvement, I also understand that there's a lot going on behind the scenes that I don't fully understand. I'm willing to be patient, and any requests that I might have, I make humbly. I don't expect that Logos should be tailor-made for me.
I agree with both your comment about the search syntax being the most challenging aspect of Logos, and the need to avoid negativity.
Perhaps the best way I can express my perspective is through an analogy. I've done a fair amount of woodworking over the years. Some tools just feel right in your hands, becoming almost an extension of your body. They're simple and intuitive to use, and just work.
I've also found that there's a striking difference between professional power tools and hobbyist/homeowner tools. The professional tools generally don't look nearly as nice as the hobbyist tools. They're heavy, in dark colors, and don't have a lot of bells and whistles. Hobbyist tools are often in friendly colors, and have laser guides and lots of attachments. The professional tools, though, generally have cast iron or steel frames, tables and cutting surfaces that are dead level and square, motors that could seemingly drive a freight train, and can safely and efficiently cut wood all day long. They're often insanely easy to use, and just feel right. The hobbyist tools are too light, wobble if you try and run a large board through them, tend to be difficult to set up, have limited accuracy even when you do get them properly adjusted, and the attachments and gizmos tend to be more annoyance than they're worth.
The same thing happens with other tools. We had a faucet that was giving us fits a number of years ago. I went to Home Depot and bought the nifty combination plumbing wrench that fit every standard plumbing nut in the world. The thing kept sliding off the pipe nuts and bending. So, I went back and bought a drop-forged steel wrench the length of my arm that was designed for the specific nuts that hold drain traps together. I love it so much that I ended up buying my dad one too (I know - we're a weird family). But it just feels right - and it sure makes removing and tightening those nuts easy!
Logos is clearly powerful enough - and I love that power. But at some level, it just doesn't feel right in my hands. I struggle to apply its power in a natural, intuitive manner.
So for me, it's not really a matter of simple versus powerful. It's a question of whether the tool is designed in a way that makes it feel natural to use, especially for the most common operations.
“But about that day or hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (Mark 13:32)
Lol, sorry I couldn't resist. But as for the 8th Coming of Logos, given the curfuffle caused by them releasing Logos 7 in August instead of October (2 months "early"), I would guess they would do around Aug 20 to avoid more complaints. Of course, they could move it back to October, but then folks will complain that it's two months "late."

Charley, thank you so much for posting. I would never have thought about using a USB adapter. I assumed they would be too slow and would need a bunch of memory. I'll definitely consider them when I get ready to upgrade. Is your USB 2.0 or 3.0? Thanks, Dale Heath
It should not be released to November if they kept their word in the first place but FL always like to stretch and redefine the truth so they will release it when they like that is the only thing that is certain and all this speculation is nonsense.

I use dual 27 inch monitors at home and in the office. Works great and a real time saver for me
Very nice set up. Thanks for sharing. I'm inspired to think how I might do something similar.

The 8th coming - ha! Yes, I doubt there is any way they can release it that will avoid complaints. This is why I am committed to not contributing to those complaints! Since I don't think that Logos exists to cater to my every whim and expectation... perhaps Romans 12:3 - "For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought..."
Stop high jacking my thread! If you want a thread about monitors start your own 😂🤡😁

Well said. I enjoyed your whole post. I am a woodworker (in my dreams)... so really related to what you have said. I have not really used any other software, so I cannot compare Logos with others. But what I do know is that it is capable of doing 90% more than I know how to. I have the Camp Logos discs- both 1 and 2. I can research what I need to know how to do... but it is like you said, it doesn't "feel natural".
I am having to learn Excel... I am self taught, but am having to use it more for my work, and I am realizing how much it can do that I did not have a clue about. So, like Logos, it is capable of doing 90% more than I know how to do. It is exciting to see others whiz away at either program, but when I try to emulate or "own" the knowledge, I get frustrated and discouraged. Beyond the guides, I get pretty lost and like a kid in the shallows, I don't care to step out in the deep for fear I will drown.
We need buttons that do the complicated programming in the background. But I guess the dash board would look like a space ship with so many buttons. Just as I have a hard time knowing how to enter a function code in Excel, I cannot master the search strings for Logos... when to put a space, when not to, when to capitalize, when not to. When to use certain symbols, when not to... there has to be an easier way.
FL needs to do more Mind mapping, maybe.
