BUG: Offline lookup not working / flaky / inconsistent
iOS 11.4.1; iPad Pro 10.5; latest production version of Bible app.
I was on a flight yesterday, no wireless connection on my iPad. I was in Romans 2-4 in ESV (downloaded). When I tried to touch a word to do a BDAG lookup (my prioritized resource, which works online, and which previously worked offline), I almost always was getting the error about not having downloaded a default iOS dictionary. But on at least one word I did get the BDAG information. (I later confirmed that I wasn't picking words that had no corresponding lemma in the RI).
In the past, I've found that the app acts differently when wireless is enabled but not connected to a network vs. when wireless is disabled altogether. So I disabled wireless altogether. At that point, it did a bit better doing the lookups. But after finding BDAG for a word the first time, it then started going to ISBE for all the words. (I later confirmed that the words had BDAG entries.)
Again, I later went online and got the behavior I expected, which I believe should have been the behavior I experienced when disconnected / offline.
Thanks,
Donnie

Could I get a response to this, please? Thanks,

I have had a similar problem in a flight. I have downloaded my preferred bible onto my phone but could not navigate to any other chapter than the one I had last used.

This confuses me - RI lookups aren't actually supported offline on iOS yet (you can do lookups from OL resources, but RI's should require an internet connection) - are you sure you're remembering correctly?

I think you're over-interpreting my reference to "RI." So that we're on the same page, offline lookups are now supported (this has been true for the last few versions of the mobile app). In order for that to work, the appropriate prioritized resource must be downloaded. For me, that's BDAG; and it is downloaded.
Whether online or offline, in order to go from an English word to the corresponding (in this case) Greek lemma, there's an RI that has that mapping. All I was saying is that once I could get online and behavior was normal (which it should have been when offline), I verified that the word I was trying to do a lookup on actually had a corresponding Greek lemma and that it was the lemma I expected.

I'd still like a response from FL on this issue. Thanks,

To guarantee that you get a response it would be best to give them a call on the phone.

But this is what I was confused about - FL announced (when launching the new features) that the offline support works for OL resources but not for RI resources. I've never had it work offline for my RI resources like ESV, LEB etc. It works in my Greek and Hebrew tagged texts, etc, but not in reverse interlinears.

So e.g. this from Phil Gons (from this thread):
It works only in Greek and Hebrew Bibles with embedded morphology. It doesn't work on English (or other) Bibles with reverse interlinears yet. That's on the list for a future release.

Or this from here:
I've been using the new beta for the last week or so, and I'm confident you're going to love it. For original language users, this is likely to be as significant a release as the recent v6 release. We're making several important changes that are going to make original language study significantly improved:
- Info popup on selection. You'll now get the info popup on selection instead of having to invoke it from the selection menu. Just long or double tap a word and instantly get the original language word info. It's amazingly fast.
- Keylink preview in the info popup. Not only do you get the lemma, gloss, and morphological parsing, but you also get a preview of your preferred lexicon right in the popup.
- Keylink lookup. "Look up" now executes a keylink and opens to the full entry in your preferred lexicon.
- Improved info popup for multi-lemma Hebrew words. We've also improved the info popup for Hebrew words like בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית. We'll default to showing you the most important lemma, but you can swipe to quickly view the other lemmas.
- Offline. All of this works offline!
Note: 1–3 work in English (and other) Bibles with reverse interlinear alignments, but #5 doesn't yet. That'll require some more work, and we're not sure yet when we'll get to it.

That's helpful. I was sure I'd used the offline capability on RI-based English bibles. But I could be wrong. It may have been NA28.
Thank you,

If my question is not related to your post kindly redirect my inquiry any relationship to this post?
Hi Matt! Two thoughts:
- This post is in the mobile apps forum, and you have posted something about the desktop app.
- It is generally best to create a new thread so that you (and the other forum members) can get personalized help. If you still have a question, please create a new thread in the Logos 7 forum (which is dedicated to the desktop app on windows/mac).

wrong forum is noted, thank you, however the problem was solved by reordering prioritized titles
