Linking two resources for highlight linking?

I have the Ante-Nicene Fathers 1: The Apostolic Fathers with Justin Martyr and Irenaeus. I found a section in the Dialogue of Justin with Trypho that I wanted to see the Greek behind the English translation. So I got Justin Martyr's Dialogue with Trypho: Greek Text with Notes.

I opened both up to the chapter in question, then linked both as set A. But when I highlight the English, nothing happens in the Greek resource. Is there a way to do this?

This is done through the visual filter called "corresponding words" which must be chosen for each resource.

Because the English text doesn't have other forms only the surface word shows so the same words in English are highlighted - see below. If the resource showed the lemma it would appear here. In conclusion it doesn't work like an interlinear Bible. Hope that helps.

This has nothing to do with the link set. They will need a Visual Filter called Corresponding Selection. And ANF1 lacks that, because it needs to have a Greek interlinear. The best you can do is roughly scroll the texts together.

Thank you guys... very insightful and helpful. I may end up having to return this Justin Greek text, as it is not much good to me until I learn Greek. For added insight in hopes of recommendations, I was doing an etymological study on the word monogenese. Trying to find the earliest uses and how and when it became translated as "begotten". Of course the problem is I am dealing with the English translation of the Greek... so that adds another layer to the complexity. Are there resources I may try to consult to get a good feel of this word and its history prior to the Nicene Creed?

Running a BWS on the word and looking at the last two sections may be a useful starting point

Lemmas in Passage - if you have it - shows where this word is discussed with some of the discussions being on the Greek OT

Similarly searching for LXX references (and I've added an English translation to the search) provides some useful insights

NIDNTTE (if you have it) accessed from the "Lemma" section of the Guide (near the top) also provides some useful insights

If you haven't got this see what other lexicons you have say about its early use

Ah... The NIDNTTE has been on my radar for a long time, but never really saw it on the inside. This looks pretty good for what I was trying to do.

Exegetical dictionaries are usually best for this. In addition to TDNT and NIDNTTE, other exegetical dictionaries in Logos include the EDNT, LTW and the TLNT (although the latter two only have some words, and doesn't include this one).

You could also search commentaries, of course. I tried:

This found some very brief discussion in von Wahlde's commentary on John:

In the LXX, monogenēs is used to translate yāḥîd, “only, beloved.” Wisdom 7:22 (LXX) applies it in the sense of “unique” to Wisdom. In the earliest Latin translations (i.e., the Old Latin) it is translated unicus but Jerome translated it as unigenitus (but only in places where it refers to Jesus) possibly to counter the Arian heresy that Jesus was not begotten but “made.”

You might play around with that search string to see if you can find out other discussions.

This is also cited in Dr. David Beale's work, Historical Theology In-Depth: Themes and Contexts of Doctrinal Development since the First Century, Vol 2, page 162-164. Not real clear on the source though.
