How is this possible?
Are the dates in this chapter all typos, or was the Book of Martyrs redacted after Foxe's death with new accounts of more martyrs?
There are various abridged versions of Foxe's book with additional material. I don't have this resource in Logos, but I do know one common edition of Foxe's Martyrs was edited by William Byron Forbush (1868-1927), and contains a section on William Lithgow, amongst others.
That would explain this chapter. According to EBNE, the dates on Lithgow are about correct.
It's not quite obvious from the Logos resource though that it is a redacted edition.
I agree, the info is unclear. The page should let people know what edition they are buying.
This version is heavily redacted. The original editions in Foxe's lifetime were thousands of pages across multiple volumes. That would be a Logos bargain at this price!
I have the original print edition of Foxe's Book of Martyrs in eight large volumes of about 700 pages per volume, if I recall correctly. The single-volume editions available today are clearly presenting only some highlights from the original set!
