AGES Calvin Commentary Upgrade

Are there still others out there who purchaed the Calvin 500 Upgrade that are still waiting to see the old AGES version of Calvin's Commentaries upgrade to the new ones that Logos has been telling us about? I think I have the rest of that Calvin 500 bundle...but still no updated commentaries. I've tried Update Resources, closing and opening L4.

BTW, did you purchase the Ages version for Logos2, and does the license for it show as such in Libronix (Logos3) Account Summary, or do you have a distinct license for it showing in Libronix?

I ask because this may, or may not be related to the problem with no upgrade, and your answer may help solve it.

Lloyd, just for clarity's sake, the AGES commentaries are not going to be updated. You are going to get brand new versions and will still have your old commentaries. This really isn't clear from the way this upgrade was marketed, but you should receive 19 new volumes that contain all the commentaries you have in the AGES version. If you no longer want to have the AGES versions around you'll need to hide them in Logos 4, or just delete them from your resources folder in Logos 3.

Uh, I just read that again. That first part of you answer seems to suggest that the Calvin's Commentaries have their own line on the Account Summary report in Libronix. The second part says that there is no license associated with Libronix. What do you mean by that second sentence?

In my Libronix Account Summary there is a list of resources that have licenses imported from Logos2. Then there are a number of licenses that are listed individually. Those are Libronix's individual licenses.

BTW, Libronix = L3; they are just two ways of referring to the same program.

This indeed seems to be the problem. I got a second email today from Logos sales rep and "recognized" Logos 2 resources are not considered "registered" resources by Logos. I am going to call CS after lunch to see if anything can be done about this.

When I look at the Account Summary page of L3 (yes, that's Libronix), I see a list of "Product Activations" with serial numbers and activation codes. The next major category is "Unlocks" where resources are listed individually without any serial numbers or activation codes. It is in that section that I see "Calvin's Commentaries" listed invididually. Based on the CD-ROM that I still have from the origianl install, its pretty safe to say this was in the days of L2. It has continued to carry into L3 and L4 (the AGES version)...but doesn't seem to be triggering the update in the latest Calvin 500 collection. Based on the Logos website, the upgrade (or addition of the newly rebuilt volumes) should be included. It is clearly the Ages Digital edition.

I just got off the line with Logos CS. Yeah, they're pretty busy (33 minutes on hold). Janel was able to see that I have the right previous version of Calvin's Commentaries and indicated that the new volumes should be included with the Calvin 500 Upgrade. The suggestion she gave me was to "Rebuild Index" and see if that clears the problem. So, with 7 hours remaining according to they icon in the sytem tray I wait with my fingers crossed (that countdown is changing a lot faster then the clock in my study...thankfully). At any rate, at least I have a direct e-mail connection back to her if this doesn't work.

I know those folks are swamped with calls. I'm glad they still have a happy and pleasant person on the other end of the phone lines. They're trying. That's the kind of people I'm glad to work with...and be patient with. With the agressive tone in some of other forums, I makes me wonder sometimes if these people are all really studying the same Bible I am. When I consider the alternative...sermon prepraration without Logos...it sure makes be grateful for what they've created!

I'll update my findings when this rebuilding of the index is done.

After almost one hour with 2nd level tech support the issue has been solved. However, this is something only CS can correct, nothing we can do from our end, (sorry Lloyd rebuilding index will not help), so you are going to have to call. The individual I was working with is going to communicate the solution to the rest of the team so you might want to wait just a bit before you call.

Well, it worked! The "Rebuild Index" command took all afternoon and into the evening, then I shut down L4 and reopened it...and the newly updated Calvin Commentaries started downloading. Now, back to indexing for the night...but hey, I got them! I don't see the mysterious Daniel commentary but as I recall there was some probelms with that, right?

You may have to download it from the ftp site to a folder on your drive and then use the Scan command to get it into Logos.

I talked with technical support today. Very nice young lady worked over an hour trying to figure out why I don't have the new Calvin Commentaries. She is going to get back to me when they figure it out. Hopefully soon.

I pulled of 56 files from the ftp site. I count 18 volumes in my library of the newly improved Calvin's Commentaries. Is that correct or am I really missing just ONE volume?

Yep, that helped me too Mark. Apparently that's the only commentary that needed to be downloaded separate from the others. All the others worked...but not Daniel. Weird. But hey, I'm glad to have that mystery solved. Thanks!

Download to a folder of your choice. C:\Temp is fine.

Once downloaded, go into Logos 4 and type Scan C:\Temp in the Command Bar. Hit Enter. Then close and reopen Logos 4. It will scan that folder and bring in the resource.

Why didn't it download by itself?

No one seems to know. Some people got it, others did not.

We've discovered that we inadvertently got ahead of ourselves and included some features (specifically, new data types) in the Daniel volume that are only supported in 4.0b. Users with the 4.0b beta got the download automatically. 4.0a will not download resources that are only compatible with 4.0b.

Thus, if you're anxious to get the resource, the simplest thing is to upgrade to the 4.0b beta, which will automatically find and download it. (We'll probably get a 4.0a-compatible build up on the server shortly. Pre-pubs shouldn't normally require beta software.)

Logos4 has entailed a whole new system for deployment of new resources, and as the first major post-4.0 release, the Calvin set has, unfortunately, suffered as we work out the kinks in this system. Thanks again for your patience.

Hmmm... I am using Logos 4.0a and i got Daniel automatically, not problem with it appearing in my library. I ran the Logos 3 download script before open Logos 4. Opened Logos 4 and Calvin's Daniel downloaded automatically into V4 with the rest of the books contained in the Calvin 500 collection.

Are the French and Latin versions of Institutes caught in this loop too? I got 72 out of the 108 auto-downloaded on both my computers into L4. Booting up my beta to try and find them.

Yep...it's not just Daniel, I've got more of my Calvin coming into Beta12 than i did in 4.0a.

With a quick comparison..i found Daniel, Institutes-Latin, and Institutes-french. Gonna try the downlad and scan or a "risky" copy and paste from the beta to the stable.
