Is there any way to get the auto reader voices upgraded to something more realistic? I don't mind paying for an upgrade

Yes, at least on Windows (I'm not sure about Mac).
Logos will use whatever your system voice is. You can purchase additional voices from third-party suppliers. Here's a thread where it's been discussed before: Read Aloud on Resources.
I followed the link to harpo software. If I purchase the voice does it work in logos or do I need to use their auto reader?

You need to get there from the old-style Control Panel, not the new one.
