But, I'd like to know if there is a timeline behind the scenes we can be informed about. We are now in month 5 and Logos 4 for Mac is not usable on daily basis for study. (I KNOW JOE... IT"S ALPHA - I get all of that).

A 6 month time frame seemed reasonable to me for the L4 Mac to catch up. But, seeing how we are at A14 - and Beta still seems like a long way off... what are we talking about here? 10 months? A year?

I just would like to know what the projections are? I love Logos. I have invested thousands. But, I am a little weary here of the process. L4 PC is coming out with a significant update, some great tweeks... and it is a little deflating that we are not out of Alpha yet on this side.

I don't see how. We aren't close to Windows L4 unless there is a lot behind the scenes. I can be patient but obviously would like sooner. Right now I do my serious study in Windows but do find Mac usable as long as the study doesn't involve too much Greek.

Morph search hasn't been implemented yet, so I doubt it works for anyone.

Nope. Even when the Windows product was in Beta, we didn't publicly announce a timeline to the private beta users until fairly late in the release. So at this point, there is no publicly available timeline.

L4 PC is coming out with a significant update, some great tweeks.

It's been mentioned in the forums before, but for the code shared between the two projects (which is most of it, BTW), the Mac alpha currently tracks the latest development branch that the Windows team is following, so many of the changes/improvements that are happening in the Windows version will be a part of the Mac version when we implement those features.

No. What I said was deliberately ambiguous in this regard. There are at least two possible realities:

Option 1) There IS an internal timeline which is not publicly available.

Option 2) There IS NOT an internal timeline, which would make a public timeline impossible.

My answer was specifically ambiguous. It was sufficient to answer his question to say that there is no public timeline currently available.

I'm not trying to be unhelpful. I sympathize with everyone's desire to have a fully-featured Mac product ASAP and to have a more concrete sense of what ASAP actually means. At this point, Bob's answer from November is still, to me, the best answer to the question being asked.

I've got to respectfully disagree. At least on my white Macbook (mid 2009) L4 is quite useful for daily study--including Greek and Hebrew. Granted, I had to build some specific link sets etc to "emulate" features that don't have a complete UI yet, but L4 Mac is still very useful. Thanks for all the hard work devs!

I would speculate that there is an internal-only timeline (including project milestones and target dates for accomplishment of each milestone). However, with all things in the software development world, it is hard to really say how long something will take. Thus - their ambiguity. Better to under promise and over deliver than vice versa.

Excellent job so far, Logos Mac development team! A14 was a huge step forward.

Mine has a "Word Study" that loads everytime I start it and I get nothing but the spinning pinwheel. -- I know that Logos knows about this sticking, but that has meant that A14 is virtually unusable for me this build. Not that it is all about me... But, my statement was that it is not a reliable tool for weekly study on the Mac.

I agree with you. This is a classic case of under promise and over deliver. I work in the IT field and know that there is very little value in giving customers a date for system availability. Here are the choices...pick only two:

1)You can have it fast

2)You can have it cheap

3) You can have it virtually bug free.

You can not have all three. I'm happy because I have the Mac version now (fast). Can't say it was that cheap but that's relative. I don't expect it to be bug free because its the "Alpha" release. Keep up the good work Logos!

Sure, there's more I will be able to do when (God willing) the software is developed further and for some people A14 feels like a regression stability-wise. For me, there's enough working for the majority of the study I do on a daily basis and A14 is waaay more stable than previous alphas. Of course, I am looking forward to a fully-featured, stable, post-beta product, but in the mean time I'm enjoying the fortnightly surprise of just how much the Logos developers have been able to achieve.

I hope that A15 works better for you.

I have to agree. I used a14 all day today preparing a sermon from Romans 14. I had zero crashes and was able to move from resource to resource quickly. I couldn't do everything, of course, but I got a lot done (and drank too much coffee in my favorite watering hole).

P.S. I jumped on board with A9. Since then there has been a remarkable improvement.

I'll not feel comfortable doing that until I can do morphological searches. I use them a lot. [8-|]

But I have to admit that once that is available and few of the other tools, I'll be happy to say goodbye to L1.2.2.

A14 is really stable. I don't even get phased by the spinning kaleidoscope anymore. I just let it complete and carry on working.

Just gonna add my two cents here. I've been MUCH happier with L4Mac than the previous version of Libronix for the Mac. I disliked the last software so much I got a refund and stopped using it. L4Mac, even with it's flaws and shortcomings compared to the Windows version, has been very usable for me on a daily basis. I can do the majority of what I need to do most of the time, so I'm content for now.

I will be even more happy once the beta version comes out. I have nothing to base this on, but I imagine we're going to see it well before the summer.

I use them in order to understand how the biblical author has structured his composition, in order to understand what he was getting at. For example, how does Mark use conjunctions in the opening few chapter of his Gospel and how often does he use them? Or how does Mark deploy adverbial modifiers throughout his Gospel? The fact is that we find that he uses them most in chapter 13. Why? By
providing adverbial modifiers for every speech act verb Mark takes firm control
of the way in which this important, yet potentially ambiguous, material may be
properly understood by his lectors (the people who read the Gospel aloud) — and, so, accurately conveyed to their audiences. Using morph searches saves hours of work, painstakingly poring over the printed text.

Morph searches help bring the text alive and give you a fell for the dynamics of its composition – and hence meaning.

I couldn't have put it better. L for Mac 1 was a serious culture shock after the power of Libronix 3. (Even the old Logos 1.6 had a better verse copying facility.) I would have moved to Mac years ago, but for Logos and how much I used it. After I heard that Logos was available for Mac, I saved my pennies, bought a new iMac in October and ordered L for Mac 1.2.2. What a disappointment! Thank goodness L 4 Mac was launched a week later! I installed it when it had reached A12, haven't regretted it a bit, and look forward to using it exclusively when it has a bit more functionality. Probably when it moves to Beta.

We aren't sharing dates because there aren't any -- we're just pushing ahead at full speed, and growing the team as much as we can absorb.
