Could someone please help me work out how to do this search?
Do you have the concordance tool? If so,
1. generate a concordance with your preferred Bible translation
2. limit the passage range to "Mark"
3. sort by the facet "Biblical Entity"
4. sort by "Kind: Place"
Yep
ok see my edited post above for the illustrated instructions
how to do this
you can also accomplish a similar result in the Bible Browser tool.
1. sort by the book of the Bible "Mark"
2. sort by "Places"
Thanks for that! I reckon these get me 50% of the way there.
Neither give me the option to sort by order of occurrence in Mark.
Any way to do that?
Does the Search tool work for this kind of thing?
The most common solution is export to a Passage List which can be sorted.
Try a Louw-Nida search
The problem is the concordance tool won't let you export to a Passage List, and the Bible Browser tool, which does allow exporting to a Passage List doesn't allow sorting by all places simultaneously.
The problem with Graham's method, using Louw Nida, is that it misses all places which are described by pronouns.
A third problem is that if the results are sorted canonically you'd lose those places tagged to a certain place which are only given vague descriptions in the text (such as "city" for Jerusalem, or those marked with pronouns when the antecedent isn't nearby). The concordance/Bible browser tools solve this by sorting those places under their respective headings. So I think it would almost be better to go through them by place rather trying to mash them all into a long list
It would be nice if we had this ability in the search engine.
What would be good is if we could select the heading Places and get all the verses with all the places in Mark at one time. Or to be able to select multiples places. I have wanted to do this for other Bible Browser uses as well such as intertext, being able to choose Quotes and Allusions for example.. Perhaps an Option click or other means to expand the search rather than to narrow the search as it is currently set up.
