Vertical pictures imported horizontal

During the announcements somebody wants me to show pictures of a youth event. A few pictures are vertical, but all imported horizontal (meaning that the people in the pictures are all lying down).

Is there any way to fix this? I can't find a way to turn the pictures in Proclaim (and yes, they WERE turned originally).

Hello Ursula, Proclaim does not support rotating the background image, but you have a couple options.

    1. Rotate the original image using an image editing application (e.g. Paint) outside of Proclaim and re import
    2. Re import the images as foreground images, which can be rotated.

If you could attach one of the original images to this forum thread I'd like to take a look at it and see if Proclaim is reading the metadata incorrectly.

Hi Scott, the images WERE rotated before importing them into Proclaim. I received them in my e-mail already rotated! I downloaded them, and then imported them into Proclaim.

In the meantime I circumvented the problem by simply making a power point presentation out of them, and importing the power point, which obviously worked just fine.

But here is one of the pictures. Now, I have found that since I updated my computer to Windows 10, it automatically SHOWS pictures rotated, even if I haven't done so. When uploading pictures to facebook, they weren't rotated, and I had to rotate them there. Maybe that is the problem, I don't know.

Okay, now that I have uploaded one, I see I was right, they only APPEAR to be rotated, when in fact, they're not. Man, I hate Windows 10! Still another problem I didn't see coming. And since they look rotated, you can't rotate them to be properly turned, as it then appears wrong, I've tried that. I guess here is another problem I need to find a workaround for (sigh).

    Thanks for your help!

Okay, by default they show already rotated in the Windows 10 picture gallery. When I opened the pictures in Microsoft Office Photo Manager, they weren't rotated, and when I rotated them there, they now still show properly in picture manager. Another mystery solved. What a pain!

Hi, Ursula. This is a frustrating problem, but you don't have to hate Windows 10! It seems like computers haven't caught up with phones as far as respecting the orientation of the device on which it was taken. The rotation issue is present in all operating systems and applications because it doesn't seem like there's a commonly decided way (on all platforms) to handle the metadata for these images.

So what you see on a Mac might not be the same as what you see on Windows. Sometimes you'll see the images oriented properly in an email but when you open them in another program they're upside sideways.

As for as Proclaim is concerned, here's what I think is your best bet:

    1. Upload the images in Proclaim.
    2. If they're rotated incorrectly, open Paint or another application that can rotate and save images.
    3. Rotate the image to compensate for the discrepancy you see in Proclaim (e.g. if an image is upside down in Proclaim, rotate it upside down in Paint).
    4. Save the image and re-upload it to Proclaim.

I used Paint in this example because one forum user has already posted that this process worked successfully for him with Paint. There are likely many other applications that can accomplish the same goal.

Thanks, Peter! I was contemplating using paint, but as you can see in my reply just above yours, I've solved the problem in a more elegant way than paint. Because in office picture manager, you can simply turn them all at the same time.
