Can't Log onto Logos After downloading Logos 7

I have logos 4 and have windows XP on my desktop computer. The other day it suddenly said it couldn't log onto logos.  I didn't think anything of it, and figured the site would soon be fixed, but then I checked and discovered the site was fine and I can obviously log onto it myself.  But for some reason my logos library will not.  The only thing I can think of that I've done recently with it was that I ordered the Logos 7 Basic Library  and Logos 7 Basic Feature Set part that was free.   I noticed someone else was also having the problem though didn't see anything there that would help me.  Does anyone have any idea of what could be wrong?

I can work off line, but I cannot download any other books I want, and I can't sync my notes with my kindle or lap top when something is added or changed, etc. plus if that free Logos 7 package is what corrupted my library, then I'd like it taken off.   (Sorry, I think I called it Logos 6 in my other posts.)  Besides that, for the money I paid for my library, I do expect it to work the way I was promised it would. Besides the problems I've stated, and others I haven't, due to being connected properly, it's the principal of the thing. They are going back on their word and that's something no Christian should ever do.  It's not just me either. It's obviously quite a few others with the same problem, and probably for the same reason.

I have XP simply because I cannot afford to get a new computer or OS. Since I paid what for me was a LOT of money for my bible library, I don't feel it's at all fair that I can't get help just because I'm not made of money and can't continually upgrade my library.  With God's help I've managed to avoid jealousy and greed concerning it, and have been content with what the Lord has been so good to give me.  I do find myself getting angry though when I hear that logos won't help us at all, and I'm very sure the Lord doesn't approve of that and I don't want to be angry.  It serves no purpose. Instead, since many of us are having this problem, I'll pray that the Lord will help us to help each other fix it and that He will soften hearts at logos so that they also might help us.

I hope others will join me in prayer.  I know the Lord will hear and act on our behalf.

Logos 7 Basic isn't designed to work on Windows XP. It requires Windows 7 SP1. This was mentioned at the bottom of the product page, under System Requirements.

Unfortunately, you installed software which is incompatible with your operating system. You'll have to get those Logos 7 licenses removed from your account, or the program will keep trying to upgrade you, breaking things again.

Once you've done that, the easiest recourse is restoring your computer from a backup to its prior working state. If you have no backup, you can try performing a clean installation of Logos 4. If that doesn't work, you may have to do a clean installation of Windows XP.

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

Humanly would like to look at diagnostic log files. Logos 4 Support has => Diagnostic Logging for Windows

I didn't get Logos 7, I only got the free part and it works just fine on my computer. The only thing doesn't work is that I can't log into logos anymore. 2234.Logos4Error.zip

Logos 7 Basic (free library and free feature set) includes the Logos 7 Core Engine (also free). It probably couldn't update you because Logos 7 is incompatible with Windows XP but what you got included a free version of Logos 7.

Since two people are reporting issues in several different threads, I asked about the log file error in a new thread. Not sure if FL can help, since Logos 4 and Windows XP are no longer supported, but we might be able to find out if it's an issue with XP not being able to validate the server certificate.

Worst case, XP is the culprit, and you'd have to upgrade your OS or computer. Let's hope there's a better outcome for you!

Could you upload a full set of diagnostic logs, so that we can diagnose your problem fully? https://wiki.logos.com/diagnostic_logging

    Thanks.

I'm sorry, I thought I did post the error log.  My computer is dying and doesn't work well so anything I use, including Logos, crashes all the time.  My logs may or may not be accurate for that reason.  I'm happy to post them for you if I posted the wrong thing.  Just need to know what to post.  The ones I already posted were all I saw.  I don't care if my computer doesn't work or even that it crashes Logos as long as I can still use Logos to study like I have been.  We can't afford a new computer yet,  but will get one when we can since only God is keeping it running at all at this point.

Yes, you did post the error.log

However to get a fuller understanding of what is happening we need to see a file called logos.log

If you have one please post it - otherwise the steps outlined above will enable diagnostic logging which should cause one to be produced.

OK, I understand now I think. I'll have to do that tomorrow though....

Our electricity keeps going off today so I've got to turn off my computer now. Just came on long enough to let you know why I can't be here today. Real high winds. I just hope I can get this posted here before the electricity goes out again.  See you tomorrow, God Willing.

OK, I did what you said, here's the ones from today.

I don't know what's wrong but I can't get one of them to post here.  It's probably because I'm sick and am not thinking straight, but it's not something I can help.  I'm sorry. I've got to go rest, I'm just not up to doing anything.  This is also how I happened to download something i shouldn't have. I don't think straight when I'm this sick.  I hope something i did will help.  If not, I'll try to do more tomorrow.  But today Logos didn't even crash once.

From your posts it seems as though you have two problems, which might be connected, although that's not clear:

    1. You can't go online with Logos.
    2. Logos sometimes crashes.

I don't think there's anything we can do about (1) on Windows XP. Even Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP in 2014, and at that time Logos announced it would be following suit. That announcement included the notice that, "Your documents and settings may eventually stop syncing to newer versions of Logos. Web services that are only used by Logos 4.6c may be discontinued without notice. Eventually, you may have to permanently "Work Offline" to keep using the software."

That appears to be what's happened. Your installation can't communicate to Faithlife's servers to log you on. The reason for that is that the Windows XP is using very old, insecure technology, and to ensure the servers are secure, Faithlife are using modern best-practices, which unfortunately locks XP users out.

They've been doing that for some time, so I don't know why you suddenly can't log in. It's possible that if you can't authenticate with the servers, then Logos allows a few months grace, or it's possible that by making a 'purchase', you flushed the cached licence, and now need another one.

Either way, I can't see any other option other than to work offline and/or upgrade to a better operating system.

With regard to the crashing, we won't be able to help you with that until it happens again. When it does, upload the log files before restarting Logos, and we might be able to help.

trying to solve the loggin in problem I tried to uninstall the software and lost my synced and working resources, when trying to do a 'scan <path to resources>' on fresh installation then it doesn't load the sources I had backed up. Any help with that is truly appreciated, so that i can continue working offline when i need to for now. I have windows 7 and logos 6 on another computer and so far i am transitioning, but still use my XP computer. thanks

I don't think you'll be able to get it re-installed once you've uninstalled it, because it won't be able to connect to the licencing server. That means it won't know that the resources you're scanning actually belong to you, which is why nothing is happening.
