Custom Passage study layout does not open prefered commentary

Hallo,

I wanted to adjust my passage study layout so it is best for me. But when I press 'replace with current', it will keep the commentary that is open on that moment as the commentary it always opens! How can I sync the commentary section I have with the preferred commentary set? I could not find the answer in the community.

See screenshot for what I mean (I replaces the passage study layout with Mark 1 and now Pillar Mark will always open, no matter which other Bible passage I open. I want it to open BECNT Luke in this example).

    Hi Bram

    If I understand you correctly you want a 'regular' Passage Study that opens to BECNT and a temporary Passage Study that uses Pillar?

    In that case you probably need to 'save' the temporary layout in the layouts tool on the right of the header.

    and give it a new name eg 'Pillar Layout'. Then when you want the you open that layout from the same tool and eventually when you have finished with that set up you can delete that layout.

    1. Change the layout to include BECNT instead of Pillar (or both!)
    2. Replace the Passage Study Layout "with current", so it will open with BECNT next time.
    3. When you open a Commentary from the PG, it will open in the same pane as BECNT & other commentaries.
    4. If you type a new passage in the GO/Command box and select the Passage Study Layout, all the passages will change in the current layout!
      1. this will open the correct volume of a multi-volume Commentary

    Thanks for thinking with me.

    What I want is that whatever Bible passage I open in my customized Passage study Layout (which opens from the command box), that my highest prioritized Bible commentary opens automatically in the Commentary window.

    In my example I searched for Luke 1; my highest prioritized commentary for Luke is BECNT Luke, so that needs to open. If I for example wanted to open Judges 11:1-11 it should open OTL Judges, because that has the highest priority for Judges for me (and BCOT for Psalms, and Bruce Waltke for Genesis (see screenshot), etc).

    But because I 'replaced with current' when I had opened Mark 2:1-13, I opened Pillar Mark because that has the highest priority for this Bible book.

    So the problem is that whatever Bible Passage I want to open I want my highest prioritized Commentary to open standard (and not the commentary that was open when I 'replaced with current', which was Pillar Mark).

    Maybe there is a simpeler solution; in Logos 7 for example if I typed a Passage in the command box, it automatically opened a screen like my screenshot, with the Passage Guide as well as the Exegetical Guide, and also my bibles and my highest prioritized Commentary. This, with a few adjustments (like automatically open the webster dictionary (English is my second language ;-)) and Biblical Places Maps) I would like to regain in Logos 8, but I cannot seem to find it.

    How are you opening the Passage Study Layout?

    Specifically, are you selecting the option outlined below?

    That won't happen - the layout does not automatically select commentary sets for you (not even in Logos 7). See below.

    For this, ensure you use the Passage Study Layout under Home Page layouts in the Layouts menu. Add the guides, commentaries and other resources you want, and then 'replaced with current'. If you want to open another commentary, do it from the Passage Guide.

    I'm pretty sure that in Logos 7 if I typed a Bible passage in the command box and hit enter, it opened the Passage Study Guide and the Exegetical Guide and it opened my top Bibles and my highest prioritized commentary for the Bible book that I typed, because that is How I worked since I bought Logos. So I'm trying to regain that Layout again. That is why I'm making it customized.

    But What I so far understand that it is no longer possible to automatically open the highest prioritized commentary for whatever Bible Passage I want to research. Than that is a miss and I will make that suggestion. On the other hand; the Way I'm doing it right now, costs me only 2 seconds: open prefered Commentary and close 'Pillar Mark'.

    If Any one finds out if my question is possible, than I'll love to hear that. In the meanwhile, I will keep trying to.

    Hi Bram

    What you are describing should absolutely work - and it is working for me

    As per Dave’s question above, are you customising the layout in the Homepage Layouts section?
