Serious Bug: 8.8b4 Library sidebar won't open

I haven't had sufficient internet to download the update until last night, and now this morning I discovered that the library sidebar won't open for me. This is true of both docked and floating libraries and in any view. I couldn't find any way to get around it (BTW, I'm not aware of a keyboard shortcut to open the sidebar. Is there one?).

If I remember correctly, Reuben, you are running on Mac. I don't see this problem on Windows.

Yes, sorry I forgot to specify that this is on macOS. It would be great if some other mac users could confirm or deny.

Sorry, Reuben, I cannot confirm you bug. Also sorry that—unlike Mike—I cannot do so poetically [:'(].

Hi Reuben,
I'm not able to reproduce this on 8.8 Beta 4. What version of macOS are you running?

I'm running 10.14.6.
Should I download the installer from the forum and rerun it?
Are you on 8.8 RC 1? Does this still happen?

I manually downloaded the installer and reinstalled 8.8b4 and that didn't fix the problem, then I downloaded the RC1 installer and still have the problem.

Reuben,
Can we get logs?

Here are logs: 4670.Logging.zip
BTW, I got rid of a lot of collections and visual filters, cleared the layout and closed the program. I then deleted the logs before restarting to the blank layout trying the library sidebar and reclosing the program, at which point I collected the logs.

I've filed a bug report, I've been unable to reproduce this. Hopefully the logs will provide more information.

Reuben,
I can't repro this either, and I don't see anything obvious in the logs. It looks like your Library is
- in a floating window
- in Details view
- with the Resource Info pane open
- with the sidebar (ostensibly) opened to width of 77 pixels
Can you try resizing the window, and changing those other variables to try to escape the weird state it's in?

Thanks, Adam. When I first encountered this I did try every conceivable combination of those variables, but had not tried resizing the window. Each time after a restart, I noticed that the first time I clicked the sidebar button there was a slight movement at the left edge, but nothing more. Resizing the window did the trick in that it allowed me to drag the sidebar open. Since then, even if the sidebar is dragged closed (which I never do), the button opens the sidebar on the second click.
That leaves only a minor bug. When the sidebar snaps shut via dragging, the button also should go into "sidebar-closed" state.
Thanks to all who helped get me past the pre-historic (sidebar-less) state of my library! 😆

Hi Reuben. I too am on a Mac with the same operating system and have lost my sidebar as well. I resized and tried dragging, do you mean the little 3 lines, looks like a hamburger icon, is that what you're clicking and dragging? I tried both and still no sidebar. I wonder if it's advisable to reinstall? Thanks.

dragging the hamburger should have no effect. Try dragging the side borders of where the sidebar should be.

I thought that was a good idea, so I checked on my Mac installation. Clicking the hamburger menu button will "fix" a "closed by dragging" sidebar. In other words, if a user closed the sidebar by dragging it to oblivion, clicking the button restores it to its rightful place.
It is still a good thing for the user to check in case for some reason her installation is different.

Thank you both. I appreciate the help. Clicking, resizing, dragging...none of that does anything at all. I've spent most of my day trying to get this to work. This didn't happen today. I noticed it a few days ago, but I've been dealing with my sister's death and this is the first time I've sat down to try to figure out why it's not showing up. I got rid of preferences, restarted computer, logged, reinstalled and none of those things made a difference either. I always open to a blank layout. I don't know what else to try. Here's a picture of my library.

Hi Reuben,
With the help of your forum post I was able to resolve Linda's problem. Do you mind sharing the computer type, and screen resolution you have?

Sure! I have a late 2013 15" MacBook Pro with a 2880 x 1800 retina display.

Adam, I too lost the sidebar ... however, I got it back by 1) opening the library, 2) positioning my cursor on the inside edge of the sidebar (where you say that the opening is of 77 pixels) to when you cursor shows a black vertical line 3) dragging to the right. That made the Filter sidebar visible again. Hope this will work for others as well. God bless you ALL!
Note: I am on a Mac with Logos 8.8.SR-1 8.8.0.0046

Would you please add these recent threads to this case, so those users will know when this issue has been fixed? Thank you!
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

The most recent update resolved this issue, but it looks like there is a new issue, which is a variation of the first. Sometimes I need to click on the "hamburger menu" three times before the table of contents shows up.

Should have read Richard Labell's post before posting the same problem. Followed your advice and was able to resurrect the sidebar!
