Hello,

I have this old manuscript, the first page of which I post here and I am trying to find what is it about.

Could somebody offer an advice?

Thank you

All the best,

Looks like Amharic text, all right. Perhaps Tes Ghebreab will chime in.

Yes it is Ge'ez the old Ethiopian language which includes Eritreans as well. It is the prayer to Mary the mother of our Jesus Christ  in the way of the Orthodox religion. The orthodox bible has 80 books. It is out of the extra books they have these kind of prayers.

There is no change on the Alphabets, the Amharic ( Ethiopian language ) Tygrigna the official Eritrean language which is my mother language plus Tigre the language of north east and west Eritrea.

Blessings in Christ.

Olvia:

Could you possibly know how old this is?

Example of Geʽez taken from a 15th-century Ethiopian Coptic prayer book.  The above shown and the one mentioned before are all similar they are in Ge'ez the word you see "ማርያም" is  Mary. This is the Prayer of Orthodox . the Word Orthodox means "Tewahedo" in Ge'ez. if you want to know more about this please use this word and make a search you will get a lot of information about this in Wikipedia. As I have mentioned it just use the word "Tewahedo" and definitely you can learn many things about this.  Tewahedo (Ge'ez ተዋሕዶ) is a Ge'ez word meaning "being made one".

Blessings in Christ.

Thank you, Tes.  I am interested in learning more about the Ethiopian Church.  It has a fascinating history.
