I use PDF-XChange Editor Plus to create Logos Personal Books from Images (with auto created Table of Contents)

1) [PDF-XChange] Import Batches and / or Folders of Images and Auto Bookmark them:
Organize > Insert > Images > Options > Image Labels > Custom Label > Use Image Filename > Add a Bookmark for Each Image with Custom Label Text

2) [PDF-XChange] Convert PDF Image File to Word Doc:
Convert > to MS Word > Edit > Include Images > Include Links

3) [MS Word] Headings for Logos Personal Book Table of Contents:
Go to the titles of each image / section, and apply Styles (e.g. Home > Styles > "Heading 1", "Heading 2", etc)

Import into Logos!

I don't understand:

Abbyy FineReader sells for $200

PDF Exchange sells for $60 but (somehow) incorporates Abbyy FineReader or so its ad says

I believe, it only includes the OCR engine from Abbyy inside its own program. The full Abbyy Software would include other features.

Interesting from (https://www.tracker-software.com/company/about-tracker-software.html):

"...you will find our best selling PDF-XChange software at the heart of 1000's of other software products from other Software Publishers world wide - providing PDF and Imaging file generation and output - we license our technology to many 1000's of other software developers, large and small, including ABBYY, Hewlett Packard, Mindjet, Sage and many many more."

and from (https://www.tracker-software.com/company/news-press-events/view/245):
"in Version 9 we decided to replace the LeadTools OCR SDK with the industry-leading OCR library from ABBYY Software. The new OCR recognition is greatly improved and displays a significantly higher level of accuracy for many document types and language sets. Users from eastern Europe and elsewhere who had experienced issues with OCR on Cyrillic text will see significant improvements. Additionally, ABBYY’s OCR SDK extends the number of languages supported from less than 50 to over 150, including ‘RTL’ (right-to-left reading) languages such as Arabic and Hebrew."

The company that sells the OCR software that I use also sells a OCR SDK kit that the ad for says it will allow "you" to add OCR to your project.

So my guess is that there are a few OCR core programs that all the rest are built on.
