What keys are you using ?

Thanks, Andrew:

In the OP can you see the small arrows in the picture (screen capture snipping) beside and above "article" ?

Those were the ones I was refering to.

Thanks so much

All the best

SteveF:

Are the above left-right and up-down arrows supposed to be responsive in the Page view?

If I have already used the space bar or my keyboard arrows to get to then next pages then yes, (sometimes) these pictured up-down & side-to-side arrows will sometimes work...but not always ..and not with any speed.

Even when they eventually move there would be enough lag time that I would assume they are not working.

In page view you probably have a lot of articles in your window. Moving to next article just move the "insertion-point".

If you open a commentary and link it to one of your bibles and then jump to next vers by clicking in your commentary (page view) you will see your bible will proceed to next verse but your page view window will look the same until you reach the page brake.

When I clicking the down arrow I got the little glowing circle for a second in the "active" article / verse.

Thanks for new column view.

Could you please add navigation buttons to use in the full screen "Reading View" ?  On Tablet PC when its folded to have two buttons Forwards - Backwards would be very helpful.

There was a mentioning about "Kindle-like" buttons a while ago in the forums.

Thanks.

OK, Ebbe,  that is helpful.

I had no idea what the "glowing" was supposed to signal.

I could see it, but nothing else seemed to be happening.

Thanks

1. Wow!

2. Wow! etc.

Only problem is navigation when you do not have page up/down on your keyboard.

The up and down arrows work intermittently.

It seems to depend on which part of the panel has the focus. For example, use the arrow buttons to go to the next highlight. The arrow keys stop working until you click on the text itself (i.e. the text regains the focus).

OK I could understand this if, whilst preventing the up/down keys from moving the text, the keys were allowed to move between highlights. As it is, if the arrow button has the focus then the up/down keys neither move between pages nor between highlights. Tongue Tied Confused

Yes

Tablet PC here, too.

It would be helpful to have some page navigation.

Now I have to rely on pen flicks and they are sometimes tricky in L4.

Don't forget that you can expand the Table of Contents till only 2 views are shown.

Except that this completely misses the point of my post which was to block out all non related material on the screen (including windows desktop stuff.)

If I have 2 and add the table of contents, I now have 3, my request was to be able to limit the display to 1 or 2 of just the book being read and no other material.

If I have 1 and add the table of contents, I now have unrelated material (actually for both cases) and I might as well not have the reading mode as the base program allows multiple panes of different text.

I seem to remember that one of the goals of reading mode was to remove the extraneous clutter so you can concentrate on a single resource without distraction (or maybe this is just my wish).

I love the paged view functionality: thank you Logos!!!

Additional feedback:

Bob has alluded to some of the research that has gone into optimal conditions for reading. One question I have is what use was seen for more than two columns? Why was it not limited to two columns so as to imitate the two page look of a book?

A related question would be more to fellow users: what do you prefer (find more useful)? A book-like look or a newspaper like look (more and smaller columns)? Would we rather have it as default a two column view and then be able to change it or do you prefer it the way it is?

I noted that when in paged view, I cannot select text at the end of the page and unto the next page for copy. What I mean is this: suppose the current screen shows the Bible up to John 3:16. If I want to copy John 3:16-17, I cannot select both verses. The page does not scroll down as I attempt to select more than the last verse. I don't know whether this is a bug or just a normal limitation of the way the paged view works.

I would add my vote to the curl turning page idea and a somewhat easier way to scroll through. But this is no complaint as I am very pleased with this feature even as it is right now.

Blessings on you folks!

I like the way Paged Mode comes on automatically when entering Reading View. This finally makes Reading view a useful tool for my method of reading\stufy, which is a kind of "lectio divina" process i.e. read until something grabs, then dive back to normal mode to study in detail.

Reading mode with Paged View on does seem pretty sluggish though, so looking forward to better performance.

Thanks

"Show paged view" is a new feature available in 4.2 Beta 1. If you are interested in beta testing, please see the Beta 1 release announcement: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/24105.aspx for details.

The left and right buttons above navigate to previous/next history.

The up and down navigate the the previous/next whatever is selected in the pulldown.

That said, I would like to have some additional choices besides Article, Chapter, Book, etc. for the page view, namely Page (or Screen if you prefer to avoid confusion with printed page numbers) and column.   Having Page/Screen would be convenient for us tabletPC users and Column would be convenient for those who want to advance only a single column to see the whole of a difficult to read sentence on the screen at one time that might otherwise be forced to be split across screens.

I noticed that I could turn pages in the paged view by scrolling my mouse wheel one click at a time. Is this true of all computer/mouse setups?  I didn't see anyone mentioning it.

Jerry, I can't do it with a touchpad mouse.

Some folks complained about the inconvenience of using up/down arrows or pageup/pagedown but unless so long as it is just to turn to the next page, the space bar works just fine and cannot be any simpler to use.

Francis,

I echo a lot of what you said.  I love the Paged View!  (I haven't had a new Logos feature that made me this excited in a while!)

Since this view is intended to be helpful to reading, I personally prefer the way it works currently (let Logos determine the number of columns based on optimal column width to minimize eye movement).  It is nice to have it mimic a two-page physical book, but when you have a wider screen (or one with a wide aspect ratio), it is not really that useful for reading and may not be much better than the old one-column reading view.

Another reason I prefer the current design is I can quickly "page" through the book in Paged View to glance through the section headings and get a rough idea of the content, browse through any diagrams, tables, or drawings, etc, to get a general feel of the book that you can't otherwise get by just looking at the table of content -- much the same way we flip through physical books in bookstores.  I just did that last night with Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology book in preparation of a Sunday School lesson. I love that!

As the other posters (and I) have mentioned, if we can have a more visual way to turn the pages (big page turn arrows or page curls), that will make this perfect!

Thanks again, Logos!

Peter

You know, Peter, as I got passed the first impression based on expectation (I was looking for a two pager equivalent to a book feel), I found out that it is in fact not difficult to read when there are three or four columns on the screen. It reads quite well and definitely better than one column.
