SR-3 Pop ups still misbehaving

It seems that the behaviour of some of our pop-ups still leaves a little to be desired.

I was working on the above poster when Logos was 'installing and relaunching' the program flashed to the front and opened the pop-up. The pop up persisted until the main program was brought back to the front and clicked on. Clicking or moving anything else seemed not to affect it.

I wonder if it would have disappeared if I had pressed escape?

Actually now I read the first lines in the pop-up I wonder if this can be categorised as an intelligent bug?

You mentioned that the "fist lines" of the pop-up may reflect a lack of intelligence. I'll have to defer to your opinion on this matter because I am not intelligent enough to know a "fist" line from a clothes line. Can you enlighten me about fist lines in a non-explosive way?[:^)]

If you was from Summerzet you would 've arhs to spare and could fit one in where my incompetence left one out.

Recognizing you're on the Mac side of the house, the PC version is similar. Whenever I switch layouts and then switch over to another application while I'm waiting, the residual layout pics overlay my new application as well. In an opposite fashion, the mouseover popups in the L4 menu don't handle the mouse events correctly so that if you move your mouse over a menu covered up by another menu element, the underlying one will remove the top one. Same thing also happens in Biblia with Opera, so I've learned that Logos has a general blind spot in this area and just to smile and keep going.

I had a similar issue a week and a half ago. A pop-up from Preposition Use in BWS kept following me around until I gave up and restarted. Reported as number 2) at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/24283.aspx, but didn't receive any attention at the time. Can't reproduce it now, so it might have gone away in the last update, but, then again, it might just be random. If anyone's interested I've still got a zipped log on my desktop, which I think covers this.

Unfortunately I just confirmed that I too still have a pop-up problem. I switched prioritized lectionary to check a thing, and the info window of the new lectionary remained open and got on top of things it shouldn't have been on top of. Fortunately it was much easier to get rid of this time, though I'm not sure exactly how I did it.

  • Repeatable using Logos Bible Software 4.0b Beta 2 (4.10.4.6567) (Update Channel: beta) - copy and paste version works [:)]

    * pop-up display in Logos 4 Mac (e.g. hover mouse over shortcut)

    * use command + tab to switch applications

    * pop-up remains (one more curiosity)

    image

After switching back to Logos 4 Mac, pop-up disappears - can be done quickly using command + tab (release keys after highlighting Logos 4 - then press shortcut to switch again.

    Keep Smiling [:)]

    KS4J,

Whenever I use Cmd+Tab to switch the popup goes away immediately. Looking at the code, the popups *should* go away when the app loses focus (i.e. moves to the background) and I can't seem to reproduce the behavior you're seeing. I might have to try it on my Macbook at home to see if I can reproduce then update the bug that I've filed for it.

Nuance update - missed mouse movement between switching applications:

    * Mouse hover => pop-up in Logos 4 Mac

    * Holding CMD key - tap TAB to switch applications - release CMD key when desired application highlighted

    * Move mouse

    * Press CMD + tap TAB back to Logos 4 - release CMD key (pop-up disappears)

Note: sometimes press SHIFT + TAB (change direction) before releasing CMD to switch to application.

Wonder if 64 bit kernel 10.6.4 context switch (e.g. 32 bit Logos to 64 bit Safari) affects application focus for pop-up removal ?

    Keep Smiling [:)]

OK, I see what you're talking about here. It looks like the Shortcuts are tracking the mouse even when the application is not active. That's a pretty easy fix. I don't know if all the popup issues are related to that, but that one should be a pretty easy fix.

Appears Library titles also track mouse (opened in a tab or drop-down with information turned off):

Unable to replicate Passage Guide pop-up stickiness shown by Mike - goes away when application focus changes.

Edit: found another mouse tracking example - Bible Word Study ring segment pop-up:

Yes. It's not clear whether you mean this as an observation or another example of a bug. If it's a bug you'll have to be more verbose.

Yep, they display hover tips as well. If it's a bug, how does it manifest?

BTW, I just checked in fixes for History, Favorites and Shortcuts for some of the behavior noted above. Unfortunately, any problems with Library or BWS Ring graph use different code from the problems I just fixed (and from each other), so they'd have to be investigated individually.

Edit: And thanks for the help in clarifying when the pop ups hang around. That was invaluable to tracking down the problem.

Bug investigation seems appropriate for Library pop-up and BWS Ring graph pop-up - similar buggy behavior as Shortcuts.

Note: BWS Ring graph screen shot has some Safari background (snippet of this thread).

OK. I figured out what you meant. Same Cmd+Tab issue appears for both Library and BWS graphs. Also, Library should hide popups if it goes away (which it does on Cmd+Tab).

Logos translation ring popup hovering above Safari (ignore the text on top, that's been posted in another thread). I never knowingly produced this popup, and didn't notice it in Logos; only when I moved over to Safari to continue writing. And, the thing is, I never switch windows with cmd-tab; I always do it, either with my 'active corner', or with the dock. Which means I always move the cursor. So none of my popup problems have occurred the way KS4J describes.

And here we have a really annoying popup! I can't see the search results because the popup is covering them, and refuses to go away!

    image

EDIT: All tabs in that pane closed, but the popup remains:

    image

Continued: Going back to Logos, I now find that it has moved to the lower left corner. Switching to home page doesn't help. Restart to get rid of it.

EDIT 2: Same thing happens when I try the search again. Find out I can access the results by opening them in a floating window. However, when closing that window the popup is still there on the original window, though now in a third place. New restart to get rid of it.

This was my first attempt at a morph search. It would be very nice to just once try out a new feature and find that it works. Not sure that's ever happened to me yet...
