That is great!!! I am a Droid user and can't wait to have an app!

I'm pretty excited about this (though it's 99% sure - Lord willing - that I'll get an iPad for reading Logos resources as soon as the 2nd gen iPads come out).
Come Aug 2011, all of my AT&T mobile phone contracts expire (5 in our family). At that point I'm going to make a decision about carrier, plan, and especially what phone I'm going to get for myself. Be great to have Logos on Android as an option to consider.

This is great news !
Android will soon overtake iphone by 2011.
I can also run Andoid on my HTC HD2 win mobile phone, thanks to the developers at xda-developers.com.
Can hardly wait for Logos to release this app.
Any new update on ETA ?

I can hardly wait for this app. Android is doing a great job of getting great phones and apps to people, those other companies have made a mistake and Android took advantage of it! I am glad to see Logos is coming on board, this will make a huge difference to me.

Android = a fragmented platform along the lowest common denominator lines of Windows led by a company who stole Apple's ideas in the first place and which doesn't really care about innovation as such, rather making sure that they lock as many people as possible into their platform which is only there to support their advertising kingdom.

Android= meeting the needs of many Americans now, and growing quicker than many thought possible.
All companies are out to come out on top in the exchange with the consumer that includes Apple and Android. Let's admit both companies have positive and negative points. Right now Android is winning more people over to their side than Apple...people believe they are getting a better deal with Android, so they are buying Android, in my case I got four Android phones valued at about 1900 dollars for free...actually they paid me 140.00 to take them. The result is I have entered into a world of quick access to my online resources and I am happy! If Apple would do this for me, I would be happy to use their products. Instead, I am stuck with this "terrible" Android platform that I can give up when ever I want to!

Nothing is free. People being swayed by Google & Android should seriously consider what it is they are getting into and the the company behind it.
Do you know the children's story 'Hansel and Gretel'? Two poor and hungry children come upon a tempting house made of gingerbread and sugar with the promise of more "free goodies" [mobile phones even] inside. However they then discover that the house is inhabited by a wicked witch who plans to eat them. That's Google.
Consider and follow the money trail... 99% of Google's revenue is based on advertising and learning, and exploiting to their gain, every possible thing it can about you. To Google you have no right of privacy — they have said so in as many words.
Apple's revenue comes primarily from sales of hardware/software platforms that if people didn't like the product they would not buy.
Who is going to make the best product?
Am I saying that Apple is a 'saint'? Nope, Romans 3:23 says otherwise. But certainly Google does not deserve the hypocritical epithet they say of themselves "don't be evil", it should be "don't get caught being evil".

Childerns story or what has happened? I have only had the Android since Oct. but so far no witch has showed up and I have been able to have online access that I would have never had with Apple, because I could not afford it with them.
I am not stuck with Android, I can walk away any time and spend my money with Apple, but right now I am happy with Android, so who is meeting my needs for the best value to me?
You speak as if everything you have said is a fact, but the truth is we are still in the fight to see who offers the best services for the least cost to the most consumers and right now the Android market is picking up speed, but you have no need to fear, you are happy with Apple, stay there and enjoy them, I will do the same with Android, until I am not happy with their product.

An allegory is designed to illustrate a point, which I believe you understand — the point I am saying here is that you say that Android is 'better' because:
Jim VanSchoonhoven said:Right now Android is winning more people over to their side than Apple...people believe they are getting a better deal with Android, so they are buying Android, in my case I got four Android phones valued at about 1900 dollars for free...actually they paid me 140.00 to take them.
and I am making the point that:
a) nothing is free, you got those phones for nothing but somebody (you and many others) actually paid for them by the respective companies passing the costs of the phones onto them — without their consent. Is that an ethical (or dare I say it... Christian) business practice? So after stealing many of the ideas and intellectual property from Apple for their product they (Google) are following a well used tactic of Microsoft of 'giving away' product to get market share (kill the competitor).
b) Google is not the sweet little old lady handing out free sweets to all and sundry that they portray themselves as. Do you have any inkling of the depth of information that they are building up on everyone, including you, without people's consent? And the worst of it is they totally believe they have the right to do so.
I'm not against some good and healthy competition, but as we see going back all the way to Cain and Abel, rarely is competition carried on cleanly.
If I believe (and anyone can confirm themselves) that Google does not follow it's own principle of 'don't be evil' I am not going to say they are good just because they give away some mobile phones.

Bias warning: personally only have iPad; looking forward to iPad 2 - anticipating Logos improvements, including notes and highlighting.
Looking at smartphone marketshare in Oct 2010 http://go-digital.net/blog/2010/12/android-makes-huge-gains-in-us-smartphone-marketshare-rim-takes-a-backseat-apple-leads-in-desirability/ noticed Android is # 3 (behind # 2 Apple and # 1 Blackberry) - looking forward to marketshare update in few weeks.
Should be an interesting year - reading some rumors about a Verizon iPhone (perhaps in February) + Oracle's lawsuit about Android infringement.
Am aware Google does not pre-approve Android applications - bigger opportunity for nasty surprises: e.g. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9202778/Android_mobile_malware_has_botnet_like_traits (albeit several iPhone applications phone home information without consumer approval).

Sheesh, talk about going off-topic. All I was saying was "has anyone heard about Logos for Android?" Although when brand loyalty crashes head-on with conspiracy theory it does make for entertaining reading.

Well on one hand I must apologise for sidetracking the discussion (but it is a free world) on the other hand your reply shows that you haven't, or haven't bothered to, read some of the news regarding Google — which is no doubt the way they would want (to keep) things.
It's not really a 'conspiracy theory' when many governments and individuals around the world are complaining about and suing them.
Anyway, I was making the point that I didn't believe that the Google/Android camp giving away thousands of dollars of product necessarily made them a better platform, and shouldn't be used as a criteria to run down what is a better platform, all the while copying stealing as many ideas as possible off that same platform.
And on the topic of Android being so called 'open', an interesting article.

Latest results shows that in the last 6 months Iphone has grown 1% while android has grown 10% and almost tied apples market share. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9203040/Android_tops_iPhone_among_recent_buyers_says_Nielsen?taxonomyId=15
It is critical that Logos works hard on their android app if they want to be a major player in mobile. I own a Droid phone and Ipod touch for different reasons and like them both. They both have their own set of strengths and weaknesses.

Well, I'm not going to comment on which company is more evil. But I would like to have logos capability on my android device. I will not buy anything apple for myself, but my daughters love apple stuff. I stay away from apple not because they are evil, I'm sure they're all nice people there (though their logo does hearken back to Genesis mockingly at best and a bit menacingly at worst). The reason I like android is that it allows me more freedom to do what I want to without always buying more android. Apple, it seems to me, simply does not play well with others. Just a personal preference. I also wish logos would let me read my books on my kindle, but that's another thread...

I like the openness of Android and I like to tinker with my stuff. When I had my iPad, I just found it too limiting for me although it was very polished and "just worked." Because I know some Linux, Android is a better fit for me. I just hope the version of Android that Logos releases will have feature parity with the iOS out of the gate.

Observation: reading Logos web page describing Android plans => http://www.logos.com/mobile/android noticed "It will likely be just like the Logos for iPhone application, with Android-specific interface as required."
On desktops and laptops, Logos 4 developed first for Microsoft Windows platform, then user interface coded for Apple's Mac (sharing common code base). For smaller mobile devices, Logos developed first for Apple mobile devices, then Android mobile devices from many manufacturers (including several that also offer Windows computers).
Looking at global smartphone marketshare from 3rd quarter 2010 http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=1466313 (published in November 2010 soon after Android tweet)), can appreciate Logos business decision for Android.
Researching programming environments, appears Logos has chosen to implement several code bases: Microsoft .Net shared code base (plus user interfaces), Apple's objective-C, Android's Java implementation, and web browser for http://biblia.com/ (not know what is shareable cross platform).
For Logos Forums, wonder when Android will appear ?

It is a bit cumbersome but you can read your logos books on your kindle. Go to the experimental web browser, bring up biblia.com, search for the book, make it full screen and read.

The problem with that is that each page turn is a download. Slow, slow slow. Kindle can do it, but cumbersome is indeed the word.
I appreciate the thought though, thank you for that! [Y]

DEBORAH! I DID see this just a few days ago and this is so exciting! I thought this was sorta' inevitable since Android is becoming to Apple & smartphones what Windows was to Apple and personal computers (comparing Apples to Apples ;o)
I'm hoping to get on your "A" list for Beta testing if/when you guys need a few extra 'droid phones for that. It would be very cool to be a part of that since my FIRST version of Logos was CDWord... written for the ole' Windows 2.0...
Then I had to turn right around and upgrade because Windows 3.11 was such a radical leap forward for Windows you guys had to nearly start over (as I'm sure you have many times since then). That was what... 1988, 1989?!
Anyway, it's nice to be a part of something from CDWord to Android... "...but my word shall never pass away..."
Thank-you for all you guys have done and ARE doing in His name.
God bless,
Ray

Thanks for the update. I've never used Logos before but I've seen so many positive comments about it. I will surely subscribe once the Android version is available.

Me too! Just waiting ever so patiently (not) for the Logos Android app so I can purchase one of the exciting newy Android tabletPCs. I love my Logos on laptop, but would like to be able to spend some hours reading on the couch or in in bed. Can't wait for this to be released!

I'll be happy for sure when an App comes out for my Droid phone.
I'd love to see an app for Android tablets (ya know, dual core, more ram, better multitasking than iPad) that has closer to the PC experience of Logos.

I would love to use Logos in Android devices, too. I hope that Logos will work with offline resources stored on SD card - that would mean with ALL resources at once.
Some cheap Android-based devices coming from China are using Android 1.5. Does anybody has any information on lowest version of Android that Logos will support? And any information on offline resources usage?

Nothing definite on Android version, but I'm fairly confident they'll be requiring at least 2.1. More likely 2.2 or 2.3 (if it becomes more widely available).

During a two week sample at Google's Android Market earlier this year, devices were running 5 different versions => http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html - Android 2.2 was 57.6 %, followed by Android 2.1 at 31.4 % so minimum requirement of Android 2.1 or 2.2 seems plausible.

Google eBooks for Android has 2 versions: one for smartphones (2.1 - 2.3) and one for tablets (3.0)
Wonder if Logos Android application will have different versions for smartphone and tablet ? (along with more features than Kindle and Google eBooks)

Wonder if Logos Android application will have different versions for smartphone and tablet ?
I recall reading something in the past day or so reading something about app developers would have the capability of building in detection of the type of device (smartphone v tablet), so only one app could be developed instead of having to develop two separate apps. Not sure how that would pan out feature-wise since one of the advantages of the tablet should be the capability to include additional features.

Any ETA on the Logos app for Android ?
I am looking to get the 7" HTC Flyer or possibly the HTC 8.9" or 10" that is rumored to be coming this summer with even greater specs. I love the stylus pen & app that comes with HTC tablets a great feature.
Hurry up Logos !
I know you're doing your best.

Anything and everything that they reveal about a release date of it will be at http://www.logos.com/android. Keep checking there. Also keep checking Twitter feeds. Occasionally there's a bit of a strategic leak there. @DanPritchett and @ddunkin seem to be the guys to keep an eye on. But I'm guessing they aren't going to reveal anything strategic like an actual ETA until it's released. Just more and more hints that it's getting close.

Where did Apple get the code for their OS? Many of the
features in the Mac and Android OSs were part of Linux (another fragmented
platform) first. I think that it is great that Logos are looking to expand the
number of operating systems it software runs on. As a Mac user I would have thought you would have
been more understanding as Logos was only available on windows. I Thank God that the Logos are willing to
include more users on more platforms, praise God.0 -
me too!! on all accounts. HTC 10' and Logos will be knockout combination!!

Just saw a video on the Toshiba Tablet that is due out this spring. 32 GB will sell for approx. $580 (can add another 32 GB in an SD Card)...2 USB ports...running the Android OS...this REALLY looks exciting. I was about ready to push my button on a iPad 2...THEN I SAW the Toshiba...I'll wait a while longer...especially if Logos is working on an Adroid platform.

Bill,
Can you post a link to that video?
Thanx.
