I received my copy of the EEC a couple of days back and now it has disappeared from both my iphone library and from Logos on my PC... I am beginning to get suspicious that desparation may have overcome some of you who are still waiting for yours!

What do you mean it disappeared from Logos on your PC? That should not happen. (I have no idea how the EEC is set up to display on an iPhone, since I don't have one.)

Hi Richard, I mean that it was there and now when i try to locate it in my library I cannot find it despite it being listed as one of my unlocked resources on my account page. Just a bit strange and will have to wait until monday and the helpful support team to sort out.
The EEC should ahve been in the Iphone also and it was on mine for all of about 10 minutes until i pressed too many hyperlinks in my excitement and then logos reset and opened again minus the EEC [:(]

It didn't get stuck in your "Hidden Resource" directory somehow, did it? (On your PC check Tools>Program settings>scroll to the bottom of the page and look in "Hidden Resources.")

Thanks for the suggestion there Richard, I would not have thought of looking there however unfortunately it is not hiding there either!
I was not intending to hijack the thread turning it into a support thread, I just found the concept of those desperately waiting for theirs when poor old me had it for a moment and the lo, it was gone! Am sure the support guys on Monday will clear it up, in the mean time I have the Talmud to keep me company on sleepless nights

Matt, In your Library window, if Last Updated is not visible, show it and sort in reverse order (last updated at the top). See what came last. Could you have changed the name?

You mean I can quit checking for my download until Monday? For some reason I was hopeful there was a team working today. I am still awaiting the EEC from the 1st and yesterday's Biblical Commentary on the New Testament (6 vols.) Bummer.

Heeeyyyyyy Kool-aid man! I use to love that commercial as kid many years ago!
I really don't have a dog in this hunt so to speak but I do wonder how does another "conservative, evangelical, inerrant, bible believing" set of commentaries help with an already loaded library of such commentaries from almost all of the e-publishers of Christian material? So whats the point other than a Logos in house generic branded item?
0 -
Very few of the "evangelical" scholarly commentary sets actually maintain a consistently inerrant standpoint, and as such are fairly useless in proving consistently valuable analysis.
It is to be hoped that the EEC will avoid lowering it's standards despite it's daunting schedule.0 -
Again if someone wants to buy this product I don't have a problem with that...but is the selling point that it's more purely inerrant than the ocean of other inerrant commentaries sold by this company. Sometimes I just don't get the excitement about the same thing that I already have but in a new package.

Logos offers a W-I-D-E spectrum of commentaries. Unless you are extremely liberal I find it hard to view every publisher as offering similar fare. The breadth or depth of the EEC will be markedly different from all the commentaries currently available in Logos.
There have been some who criticize some EEC commentators as too conservative. But you don't see a difference between the EEC and other commentaries. Surely one of those perspectives has to be wrong. I think the many people who place orders for the EEC must think it has something unique to offer that is not presently available.

Of course there is something unique and important about a product that covers the same ground as multiple commentaries in the Logos product line. Indeed they are all things to all people with all products except the ones that I need for graduate school. Perhaps my problem is that I haven't spent enough money to convince me that I need more of the same theological perspective in my library. Slapping the same GM engine across multiple car lines did make for unique products but somehow it just didn't feel so different to me when that was happening.

I think my personal Logos library is well balanced so far. Here is my library report generated by Mark Barnes' utility:

I do have a few conservative commentaries but it is not overly weighted to one perspective. (A couple are not in this report yet)

There will always be a need for new commentaries due to new research, advances, etc.. They may never come out at the rate of the past twenty years. It would appear that a tech company such as Logos will need to be involved in the publication in the future. If this commentary is as successful as it appears, then perhaps Logos will in the future publish other commentaries with a different set of writers, editors and viewpoints. Perhaps Logos can come in a co-publishers with a print publisher.
It will be interesting to see how they publish the print edition on the EEC. Will it be marketed through one of the current publishers or will it be printed with the Logos name?

Why does it seem that no matter where you go there are people who are not happy unless they are complaining or criticizing?
Why criticize those who chose to purchase something you chose not to? I don't get it.

Well David we could turn it around and ask "why is it that company sponsored web sites are full of homers willing to spend thousands of dollars to buy the same thing over and over again?" Why is my home page filled with Logos advertising? Why is the only communications I get offering me endless advertisement's for products and "training" weekends that I don't care to engage in? Why is the only products I need from this company ones I can't get? Why do I need "cutting edge" cloud based programs that I have little chance of unloading on a Amazon?
I can understand that one may become tired of hearing the whining. As I have on several sites including posting a lot on this site because it seems almost useless to me. Sometimes though expressing the fact that I can't unload the monstrosity that I paid over $800.00 dollars for since seminary makes me feel slightly better...but only slightly.

Hi David, it seems that in every online community there are what is called "internet trolls". Logos is not immune from them. I am not talking about the occasional complaining person, such as myself, but those who take what seems to be every opportunity to do so just to elicit an angry or defensive response. They are more than willing to take a thread completely off topic to do so. These people are usually very different when you meet them in person. I know that there have been actual studies performed about their personalities as well. Some have inferiority complexes, some are angry about something and some just feel lonely deep inside and desire the attention.
My post here could actually incite some trolls into what is called a flame war.
Wikipedia said:In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory[citation needed], extraneous,
or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online
discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of
provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.Indiana University said:The content of a troll posting generally falls into one of several
categories. It may consist of an apparently foolish contradiction of
common knowledge, a deliberately offensive insult to the readers of a
newsgroup or mailing list, or a broad request for trivial follow-up
postings. The result of such postings is frequently a flood of angry
responses. In some cases, the follow-up messages posted in response to
a troll can constitute a large fraction of the contents of a newsgroup
or mailing list for as long as several weeks............Please deal with trolls constructively, and do not participate in
trolling. By refraining from doing so you will help make mailing
lists and online forums much more enjoyable venues for discussion.0 -
Lol...Troll=unhappy customer.

Home page advertising can be turned off by using the Customize popup from the lower left corner of the homepage. Just set it so the areas that promote products or resources no longer show up:
Rene Atchley said:Why is the only communications I get offering me endless advertisement's for products and "training" weekends that I don't care to engage in?
You are probably signed up with MP Seminars to receive their e-mails, which you can unsubscribe from (found a the bottom of their e-mails). You can also change your e-mail and RSS settings at Logos.com under Account Notifications:
So everyone has control of the information that they personally receive.
Rene Atchley said:Why do I need "cutting edge" cloud based programs that I have little chance of unloading on a Amazon?
This is a personal choice and question that each must answer for themselves. Obviously you have regrets.
Rene Atchley said:expressing the fact that I can't unload the monstrosity that I paid over $800.00 dollars for since seminary
I would guess that you haven't really tried to sell it. If you purchased your resources at an "academic discount" and purchased from prepubs and community pricing. I am pretty sure you could get your money back if you really wanted to. There is a market out there and it would probably be a win-win for both of you.
0 -
I am sorry you do not find Logos software useful. If you went to seminary to become a diesel mechanic, you were sold a bill of goods. Logos does very well what it was designed to do, namely, Bible study. If you purchased your software with Academic pricing, you received a discount substantial enough to recoup your investment. Be happy Logos does not treat Academic sales as Microsoft & Adobe do. They restrict the resale of Academic licenses or ban it altogether. A far as i know Logos allows Academics to resell to the general public. (Correct me if I am wrong.)Rene Atchley said:makes me feel slightly better...but only slightly.
If your problem is not knowing how to get the most out of the software take advantage of all the training materials they keep advertising. If you are not interested in Bible study any more, find a new hobby and save yourself some grief. If the program is too big (unwieldy?) for you try one of the free Bible study programs that run on a PDA.As David Hitty asks, "Why criticize those who chose to purchase something you chose not to?"
They are not repeatedly buying the same thing. There is a very big difference between Calvin, Wesley, Aquinas, & Barth. Same goes for the Anchor Yale Bible, Word Biblical Commentary, the New Daily Study Bible, and the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary. Growing our libraries in resource numbers results in an exponential growth in the usefulness of the library.. A 1000 volume library is much greater than just twice the value of a 500 volume library. A 2000 volume library is 20x more versatile than a 1000 volume library. That is the benefit so many others have discovered to growing their libraries.Rene Atchley said:why is it that company sponsored web sites

Matthew, pleased as punch is an accurate description of how I am feeling about the EEC which arrived this afternoon. I took some advice about reading with a "highlighter" in hand. The results were an excellent summary of the comparing and contrasting between 1 and 2 Chronicles with Ezra and Nehemiah. While I am always thanking the Lord for His gift of teaching pastors to the Church, this readable exegetical commentary is a welcomed addition to our growing library.

This is very exciting!!! Thanks to everybody who ordered the commentary series. I hope you enjoy the first volume.
The advantage of a staggered release is that we have an outside chance of reading the entire series cover to cover, and as has been mentioned elsewhere, bags of Kudos to Dr Loken for putting his head above the parapet in writing the first volume.
I actually had the thought that maybe I would make it a point to read each volume cover-to-cover as I get it, instead of just using them for verse/chapter comments help as needed. I know my familiarity with the OT is lacking.
Dr. Loken's straightforward approach to comparing and contrasting 1 and 2 Chronicles with Ezra and Nehemiah have been an instant aid in focusing on the differences between these books including an observation which I had overlooked from Ezekiel. I am looking forward to reading these books again with this additional insight.
"It should be remembered that the glory of God was physically present in the nation prior to the Babylonian exile but not after the nation’s return to Israel (cf. Ezek 10 and 43). Without the glory of God present in the temple, it seems as if the restored nation focused more on the leaders of worship and the act of worship than on the one being worshipped."

Both books accomplish their intended purposes. Walter Martin's excellent book is more of a comprehensive reference work. Ron Rhodes book is written to aid the reader is presenting a proper apologetic response to cults. Here is the introduction clearly describing Rhodes' approach:
"CHARTING OUR COURSE
Let me offer some brief notes regarding my guiding perspectives comprehensive in this book. First, no single-volume book can provide information on every cult. (There are thousands of cults in the world.) Hence I have chosen to focus my entire attention on 12 of the most significant cults and new religious movements we are likely to encounter in the world today. (Training in the major cults will more than adequately equip us to deal with the lesser ones.)
Second, it has been my experience in more than 15 years of cult studies that most people are interested in three primary issues regarding the cults: history, doctrine, and apologetic response. Therefore, this book will focus chiefly on these issues in regard to each respective cult or religious movement. Even then, primary attention will be devoted to the major currents in history, doctrine, and apologetic response. In other words, I will not bury the reader in unnecessary detail or secondary issues. I will focus primarily on the “big picture.” (Those interested in minutiae can consult the bibliography.)
Third, it is not my goal to continually draw attention to the more sensational factors of each respective cult, thereby arousing the emotions of the reader against them. My desire is not to make fun of adherents of cultic belief systems, for I have consistently found that they are typically sincere though misled. So I focus primarily on the facts of history, doctrine, and apologetic response.
Fourth, I have sought in every chapter to use authoritative resources produced by the cult or new religious movement that are most representative of their beliefs. This provides us with an accurate grasp of their beliefs.
Finally, this book stresses the authority of Scripture—the Bible—as a “barometer of truth” for measuring doctrinal claims. I say this with caution, for I recognize that many cults also claim to use the Bible as their authority. Throughout the book I will demonstrate how such cults engage in “Scripture twisting” to support their unique theological positions. "

I assume you've closed and restarted Logos4, and checked to make sure that your Logos4 settings allow updates and internet usage, etc., and that your firewall is not blocking Logos4 from connecting to the Logos servers (recently someone's MacAfee was causing problems with Logos connecting through the MacAfee firewall).

David, I was not charged until it shipped. But I did notice it remained at the top of my "Open Pre-Pub Orders" list after it had appeared on my "Order History" page. I'm sure you know by now you have to close and re-open Logos 4 to get resources automatically updated to the library.
Other than those minor points I would say contact Customer Service, again.. I don't think it is going to fix itself. [:(]

There are two potential problems that could cause the EEC not to download:
- It hasn't been properly unlocked.
- It's been unlocked, but won't download.
The former problem only Logos can sort out. But you can work around the second. Just download the EEC from http://resources.assets.logos.com/lls_eec15ezr/2011-06-01T20_05_45Z/EEC15EZR.logos4, copy it into a temporary folder somewhere (e.g. c:\logos\), and type SCAN c:\logos (or whatever folder you used) in the command bar. It will look like nothing has happened, but if you then restart Logos, it should load the file.
If this fails, upload your logs.

Also I highly recommend KS4J's 1754.Logos4MacLogging.app.zip which enables the user to enable and disable logging without having to use Terminal. Depends on the size of your Library (Mine is 19+ GB). In the early days of L4 Mac, it took many hours. This usually best done just before bedtime.
